Some interesting comments on this thread from rhinos fans about Hull FC's credentials to become a top team in SL and compete for silverware. The overwhelming view appears to be that the Ellis signing won't be enough to make any significant difference to their current position in the SL pecking order. In other words, they shall remain whipping boy SL rabble for the time being.

I shall make a note of such opinions and possibly refer back to them at some future date, particularly if the rhinos draw Hull again in the CC or the play-offs. It goes without saying that I shall yet again be declaring such encounters under the category of easy, low-intensity fixtures against whipping boy SL rabble where the rhinos just have to turn up to win. I also expect the very same people on this thread who have poo-pooed Hull's ambitions and chances of joining the big boys at the top (with or without Ellis) to engage in a complete u-turn by declaring my opinion as arrogant and unjustified - an agenda designed to set up the rhinos (win or lose) - despite overwhelming evidence of past results and performances indicating the relentless one-sided nature of such encounters.

He showed some glimpses of what he can do in the first couple of games and in pre-season. He had a stinker against Wigan and has been injured really since but he isn't as bad as some make out.

I was being slightly tounge in cheek. He was awful start of lat season particulary in defence. Improved alot through the year, and he did start pre season in good form. Tends to struggle against decent opposition Wigan this year and a bad display against wire in play offs cost him a GF. He isn't as bad as I or others make out but I am not convinced he is going to ever live up to Ali in his prime

- Ellis is a very good signing for them but they still need a couple more signings before they're capable of reaching a Grand Final (an opinion most Hull fans have stated also).
- And that it would of been good to of signed him ourselves but its also good that we can use the cap space to keep hold of are current players and youngsters instead.

It happens a hell of a lot that fans' opinions of some of their clubs' players are ridiculed by opposition fans when it's actually them who are the more ignorant of what the player(s) actually give(s) to their team. How often do we fans see a player signed by our club (whichever it may be) that we don't particularly rate, only to find that they end up being a crowd favourite once we see how good they actually are?

As long as there is a festering cesspit of a putrid hell-hole that insists on attaching itself to this once great county and continues to wrongfully maintain that it is part of Yorkshire, then yes I will always bang on about Hull (only one vowel wrong).

You should read some of his stuff on the Hull board, at times he contradicts himself within the same post and he regularly changes from one opinion to the polar opposite in consecutive posts. Prior to the Saints result he was venting spleen about the lack of any improvement at all from us yet this year and all but calling for Gentle's head already. Now we've had a couple of results it appears he's willing to take on the world.
