| Going by todays performance it sounds like 4-5-1 away from home and although it was only the monkey hanger sot sounded very effective and Sam in particular sounds promising.
I agree we need at least 3 quality additions down the midddle of the team and Lorimer said the same during commentry and that he "expects Simon to sign them"!

| 4-5-1 will make us harder to beat for sure, and could well suit us as it gives the likes of sam a chance to get forward. paynter could well suit that system as well.
playing that system i think the midfield could cope.its the defence which worries me. naylor is shot, will do ok as a squad player but no more than that. bessone comes with a good reputation and was nearly an ever present with swansea last season. connolly couldn't get into a crappy derby team!
paddy is a good stopper but gets dragged out of position and he could with a bit of pace playing next to him.
IMO we are desperate for a centre half, centre midfielder and a striker and they must be of proven quality in this division. we have enough indians we need chiefs now

| Good points everyone.
For me our priority goes --
1) Ball winning midfielder
2) Proven Striker
3) Centre Half

| Does anyone know if Darrell Russell has signed for anyone? He was OOC at Norwich and didn't sign a new contract, we were linked with him, unsurprisingly as he's OOC but we could do with someone like him. Someone better would be nice but at least he can get stuck in in midfield.

As far as I am aware, he hasn't signed for anyone, but I did hear Preston were very interested in him. Could be a decent pick up for us, but it looks unlikely now.

Nothing confirmed as yet mate,he was heavily linked with us and even Norwich expected him to join us when they said he would'nt be re-signing for them!

| Russell is also stronlgy linked with PNE.
Personally think were still a few players light, would of liked the guy from Hamilton who has now signing for Wigan.

| Quote ="LS14 RHINO"We need a few more signings before the season starts and they need to be quality signings or we'll really struggle this season IMO. Infact i think with the current squad we've a good chance of going back down.
We've spent nothing again except for the Collins fee which will have been small. The players we've added are unproven at this level apart from Collins and Connolly who couldn't get a game at there respective clubs. The players we had last year struggled through the second half of last year and relied on Beckford's goals to win us promotion.
The defence worries me, full back was a massive problem for the whole of last year. Crowe wasn't good enough for league one. Hughes was forced to do a job but was terrible at times, he's far too slow and it's Larry's fault as Hughes is never a full back. Connolly was poor at Derby so i've heard and was farmed out on loan. Bessone i cant comment on as i haven't seen him play but if he isn't good enough we're stuffed because Parker is injured constantly and White has looked promising but could get badly exposed moving up a level. Still think we need a better centre back to start with Paddy when he's fit, Collins did a job last year but Naylor's career is on it's last legs Bromby is okay as a sub but not a regular.
Midfield was lightweight last season and we lost games because we were over-run in there, the only player that could put a tackle in was Doyle and he's gone. The friendlies this week have seen Howson, Killa and Johnson in the midfield, if Grayson thinks he will get away with relying on them 3 to win the midfield battle during games this season then more fool him as it will be him who's out of a job by Christmas. They couldn't run the midfield in League One so they certainly wont do it in this division. Kilkenny is a good passer and can create things but to play him we need someone sitting and it cant be Howson or Johnson. Neither offer anything playing out wide and we've got better players than them out wide anyway in Snoddy, Sam and Gradel. It's a shame that Montgomery from Sheff U didn't join us as he's just the type of player we need but someone has to be brought in for that position and possibly another for when we get injuries.
Upfront we need a proven goalscorer who's done it in this league, Paynter may score plenty like last season but it's a massive risk. He's had one good season in League One and they'll be massive pressure on him to fill the loss Beckford. Becchio will battle away but this is a level too high for him IMO, i hope i'm proved wrong but again, would of liked to see someone brought in. Somma and Grella will be subs and given the odd chance to prove themselves but you cant expect them to be a hit straight away. Why they didn't go all out to get Billy Sharp or Hooper in i dont know, atleast they've scored goals in this division before.
Grayson hasn't spent anything again and if he's been given nothing then you cant blame him if we have a poor season but why come out and say he's got money if the right players are available and then not spend anything when the squad clearly needs quality adding to it.'"
Good points well made. Agree with practically all of that. I must admit i'm very very suprised Leeds have not gone out and made a statement type of signing... i.e Hooper, Sharpe, to say ''Leeds are back and we're going places''. The signings we've made have been astutue imo there's no denying that especially as we've spent naff all money on them (Collins apart). The squad is still light though, Larry must bring in 2 more at least if we are to get anywhere near mid table let alone top 8... so far so it seems Bates is aiming for survival only for the coming season and fill the coffers a bit more.... is that a dangerous game to play??

He'll bang in a load of goals this season and the premiership clbs will go sniffing.
I expect him to leave Celtic for soemwhere in the region of 7-8m in 2 years time.

Your chairman is, I'd assume, spending big money to advertise at the ground of the football team I support and his money is very welcome if it means we'll actually sign a player for a fee. It just means that if Leeds are ever losing next year I can look up from the Kop and remind myself of lighter times such as when a drunken lout was spouting of his plans about Hull KR on top of a table in a pub.
