Which Leeds building appears on the packaging of a major piece of gaming software?

Speaking of which - a version of Monopoly using purely Leeds streets will be in the shops before christmas...

I once went to a birthday party in the upstairs room at The Meanwood, after it finished a mate of mine got his mother to come and pick him up in her clapped out old mini - she parked outside and came upstairs to find us, when we came downstairs there was no car outside, instead we could see it being driven off down Meanwood Rd by some opportunist thief.

We chased him down Meanwood Rd and the Mini was so clapped out that we actually caught up with it opposite where the Meanwood Valley Farm is now, the thief did a runner

Quite right, in the little known single 'So What'. I've got the video on vhs from it's one and only Chart Show appearance back in 1989. According to the little info blurbs they used to put on screen, it was a single released as being by by 'GOS' to a) avoid any prejudice about Gilbert's lack of cool & b) to sound a bit like the surname of a popular boy band of the time.

I have a Cluedo game based on Leeds places and faces.
Instead of the conservatory/dining room etc it has Leeds Perm/Yorkshire Bank etc. and instead of Miss Scarlet etc it has Jilly Cooper/Jimmy Savile/Barbara Taylor Bradford (stretching a point for Leeds-ness there).

Haven't they done one of those before? From memory, it was the very first special edition they ever did, many years ago, and is worth a fortune on e-bay and the like.

I think it was done to mark the end of production of the game at Waddingtons in Leeds, but I could be mistaken.

Went to a few private parties in the upstairs of the meanwood mysen, not to mention watched and played the odd game of RL at Bus Vale.

You're not, except maybe the reason;s for it being made. According to a website I found called 'your money', anyway.

They said this back in 2006:

'A THE Leeds edition was made in 1989 to raise money for charity. Only 500 copies were made so it is super rare. The Lord Mayor owns number one. They are very desirable and started the trend for Monopoly based on other cities.

At auction one copy went for pounds 1,650.'

When they adapted one of her sh[ia[/ig and shock novels for the telly, I always remember one of the characters talking about Leeds/[size=59Bradford[/size airport on the phone, and saying 'Yaydon airport'.

The most appalling Leeds reference that I have ever read is in one of Jeffrey Archer novels, yes I read one once, where the hero goes to Leeds Uni in his youth and he speaks of "boating on the Aire" with his girlfriend


















Quite clearly Jeffrey had never been anywhere near the city when he wrote the book and simply assumed that because it had a Uni in the 1960's then it must be like Oxford, he checked the map and bingo it had a river too, so it must be true.


Go boating on the Aire in the 1960's and the boat would dissolve beneath you before you'd left Clarence Dock.

I wondered the same....

I can see the Gherkin, but no Bridgewater Place ?

It's not clear in the above pic, I admit.

But that was the largest image a quick 'Google' turned up.

But BWP is there - just to the right of the Gherkin. Trust me.

I've found a larger example but I suspect this site's s/w will downsize it.

What you can see of it looks very similar to one angle of Bridgewater Place, I'll give you that. Given the worldwide stature of the landmarks around it though, I'd be surprised if it's not somewhere else on which the design for BP was based...

If it was in higher definition we'd be able to tell straight away if it was BP or not.

Just look for 'Look North' cameras on top of it. They're never off the blooming thing.
