Harkin and Plange were really going for it. I think's Plange's reach made him the winner. Harkin was swinging plenty, but I don't think he connected with any.

| You'd be tempted to say that the game was just full of thugs back then, but you only have to watch them with the ball to realise they were terrificly skilled rugby players who were also just very hard.
And Dave Heron for me had everything that made RL exciting. He was quick, had a fantastic step and magical hands. Always looked dangerous with the ball and always direct. He was also a phenomenal cover tackler. And of course, he was hard.

Don't forget his Magnum-esque moustache.
All but gone in the game now.
We need to do a moustache XIII. David would, of course, be the loose-forward.

Skerrett piped down quickly enough when Kevin Ward arrived on the scene.

When David "Cement" Gillespie signed for Hunslet, didn't Heron go in Open Rugby saying he wanted to be known as David "Concrete" Heron?

It would be hard to think of a member of the 1982/83 Leeds squad that didn't have one (David Ward had no hair anywhere on his head). Even Roy Powell had one back then.

| John Holmes sported a droopy one in the early 70's and so did Mike Harrision but in those days we all did.

No he didn't, no he didn't.
Garry Schofield cannot grow a decent tache to save his life, there's a patch in the middle that just grows like a thirteen year old schoolboys tache, patchy, thin and whispy, it looks ridiculous.
And thank god there are no surviving photos of me on my wedding day either, for mine was similarly pathetic, however these days (and I quote this weekend as a prime example) I can grow a fine greybeard, I have become a greybeard without even trying - next stop the caravan sales shop.

I'm short a good second row and hooker, but that's nearly a 1-13 of supreme upper lip action. Honourable mention to Neil "Field Marshall" Hague who would surely have gotten into any other 'tache 13.

| Shame that Bob Beardmore never played for Leeds or you would have the Hooker.
In terms of second rower did the blonde bomber ever sport facial hair? or what about Mr Eccles, did the sideburns ever grow over the top lip?

Some great clips on this thread.
I just noticed this one as one of the related clips while watching one of the them...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=rufX8VJ2wVE
...My memory is poor and I don't remember it too well...despite Stevo's hysterics how was Barrie sent off for that...Even stevo (while saying how terrible it was) says that Barrie hit the chest and his arm bounced up. The handbags then started because poor little victimised Stuart threw the ball away to throw some punches!

| Anyone got the link to the previous 'moustach' threads? I remember there being one on here and on the VT around the same time.
It's unlikely much will have changed despite the best efforts of the Les Catalans this season.
