You'd be tempted to say that the game was just full of thugs back then, but you only have to watch them with the ball to realise they were terrificly skilled rugby players who were also just very hard.

And Dave Heron for me had everything that made RL exciting. He was quick, had a fantastic step and magical hands. Always looked dangerous with the ball and always direct. He was also a phenomenal cover tackler. And of course, he was hard.

Don't forget his Magnum-esque moustache.

Garry Schofield cannot grow a decent tache to save his life, there's a patch in the middle that just grows like a thirteen year old schoolboys tache, patchy, thin and whispy, it looks ridiculous.

And thank god there are no surviving photos of me on my wedding day either, for mine was similarly pathetic, however these days (and I quote this weekend as a prime example) I can grow a fine greybeard, I have become a greybeard without even trying - next stop the caravan sales shop.
