How is Sam a second rate player? He has played 1 season in L1. He is a good proven championship player with pace which is what we need.

With regards to 'wheres the money bates' SG has said on quite a few occasions that they will be looking to get the free/out of contract players in first and then look at players in areas we need to improve. There is loads of time yet, so take your anti bates glasses off and have a bit of patience.

I agree, people just start massivley over-reacting because its another free signing. I would like us to splash out on 1 or 2 big players but if we don't its no big deal aslong as the quality is there.

Also, with not spending cash on transfers, you can offer that free transfer that bit more in the contract dept. to secure their services.

Hence, why have we picked up a poorer quality free transfer in most of the cases than what was available elsewhere, also free.

Some of them are yes. But when a player is OOC and clubs are fighting for him, you can offer that bit more than most.

Im happy wit the signings so far, no point running around and spending money just for the sake of it - better to get what we can for free and then whip out the cheque book for one or 2 quality players than 5 -6 average players who we can get for free.

Paynter, Sam and Schmeichel are good players, Collins is a solid signing - not sure about Bessone but I havent seen enough of him to form an opinion.

If we get hooper and keogh then we have a pretty decent squad.

So then, less than a month to go and who has Bates spent any money on? Collins and the rest have all been free? Disapointed we missed out on Hooper although i'm not surprised with it being a £1mill fee.. the way it's looking i'd say mid table at best, which tbh wouldn't be a disaster but I think we could do better with a major signing or 2..
