Still no clearer
Wordsworth Street and Roberts Place are not on "Streetmap" so presumably they don't exist anymore - the mention of Burley Liberal Club is obviously the old one so the only place I can think where it may be is either in the area where YTV is now (my dad nearly got arrested there for "borrowing" bricks from the demolition site when they got rid of the back to back streets - he got a way with it by telling the bobby to mind his own business), or a but further up Burley Rd under past the viaduct where the new-ish council estate is (behind the Sheesh)

| I've been there.
It was near where YTV is now - opposite where Hyde Park Road meets Burley Road.
As I recall (and I was only about 6 or 7) The Burley Bughutch as it was affectionately known was unusual among suburban cinemas in that it opened on Sunday nights.
I can't remember which film my father took me too there but I remember going in half-way through the 'first house' and seeing the second half of the film first. Is it any wonder I am like I am?

£4000 a week in 1967 – at Batley Varieties – this just doesn’t make any sense when put into today’s context.

About three years wage for an "ordinary" person, the sort of person who would be in the audience watching her.
Or the cost of buying your average house
That site shows how much house prices have risen in relation to the average annual salary - could you pay for your house on three years salary ?

That place is an Indian restaurant now.
I used to hate Green Shield Stamps, it was my job to lick them and stick them inthe books when my dad brought them home - and with "triple Green Shield" at petrol stations there would be reams and reams of the bloody things.

| Quote ="flipper"given all the talk of lost pubs, just been talking to these [url=http://www.midnightbell.co.uk/these people[/url, nice to see a new independent pub from the [url=http://www.leedsbrewery.co.uk/Leeds Brewery[/url'"
My innate sense of duty took me to this pub last Friday (just after the Leeds v Ganson match).
It is at the Granary Wharf end of Water Lane and is indeed almost adjacent to the Cross Keys, as someone said earlier.
Firstly, the beer is superb.
Secondly, the pub is a newly refurbed old building and looks it.
Newly refurbed, that is.
It's a bit too new, neat and tidy for an old boozer like me.
Mostly empty, the staff outnumbered the punters and it is still lacking character as yet but I'd be easily inclined to give it another go, if only for the fab beer.
Also, when I get round to sampling the sausages at the Palace I'll report back on that too.

| Am I right in thinking that 'off-peak' on the buses used to also apply between the hours of 3pm-6pm, and not just prior to 9.30 as it does now?

That's how I remember it, yes. I seem to remember getting kicked off a bus on the way into Leeds, as I thought it started at 3.30, rather than 3.

Peak time on the buses used to be before 9:30am and between 3pm and 6pm, you're right. Used to keep the codgers out of the way during the evening commute.
