| Some bad luck for sure but the lack of go forward/ errors / discipline is poor.
The Ruan thing I don't get at all when we needed size and a fresh body.

| Quite enjoyed that. It’s February, the pitch was terrible and we’ve got a new spine.
Edgell looks like he’ll be a decent player. Lisone was great last week and terrible this week. Bentley had a better game, tackled everything and made some great supporting runs. Still scares me though and looks likely to give a penalty away every tackle.
Seen enough though to think we’ll be dangerous once the pitches dry out. Croft is the complete player

| Quote ="ArthurClues"In fairness to Lisone, he had to make that tackle or they scored. He just got it wrong enough (given the new interpretations) to pay for it. On the bright side we competed hard on an absolute glue patch and perhaps didn't get the luck we were always going to need to get the win. Impressed with Croft, Ackers, Smith and Bentley. Thought young Edgell did very well in the circumstances. Handley looks in tremendous nick this year, maybe a yard quicker than I've ever seen him. Ruan should have got more time. Won't be throwing my blue and amber rattle out of the pram as a result of this one. Desperately need Oledzki, Holroyd and Miller back next week.'"
Agree with all of that. Discipline and lack of grunt up front on a heavy pitch cost us but no dramas. I never get concerned when we lose if we’ve competed well. Some good signs still imo. We’re just held back a bit bit by our prop depth

| Quote ="The Magic Rat"I thought our attack showed a few glimpses of improvement in the 1st half, especially considering the state of the pitch. Edgell did enough to show that he can be the understudy to Miller without having to shuffle the backline around.
What was disappointing was the lack of discipline and field position in the 2nd half, very similar to last season. We won a game last week that was suggested we would have lost last season. Tonight was very much like last season, we competed well but came away with nothing.'"
Good pov Magic and from what I have seen and also a bit of side knowledge I believe Edgell is the real deal and should be promoted as often as possible, Miller is still in the same bracket as regards proven ability and question marks re fitness.

| I know it's only week 2 and I desperately don't want to sound negative but....
The difference between the 2 teams was obvious tonight.
They are a well coached team, with a game plan.
We aren't. We're a really dumb team.
We rely on worldie tries to keep us in games.
Poor kicking, static attack, daft errors when we're on the back foot.
It's all too familiar.
Why on earth is Ruan only coming on after 73 mins??
Smith has 10-12 games to save his job.
Looking at the next 5 games, I think we lose 4 of them.

Nail on the head about Bentley. He competes as hard as any player I've ever seen. It's just that so much of that effort is wasted. Made an unbelievable take off his knees from Croft's low pass but just couldn't reign in the instinct to throw a complete speculator in the next second. That was the game for me. I don't know how you temper that or if you should even try. Frustrating player.

| The increase in sin bin offences.. the stupid VAR in football... its like no one wants any momentum In sport anymore... (although football is a business not a sport now)
Did we play better than against Salford? Sounded a pretty similar standard on the radio. Very patchy.

Leeds have some good players and a better coach would get more out of them. Surely Rohan has had enough time now at the club to at least be showing some signs of serious progress? I’m far from a Leeds fan but it frustrates me watching Leeds thinking it’s Tony Smith coaching us at Rovers again.. Must be in the Smith genes that their teams just don’t seem to be up for a bit of ‘honest’ play.

It wasn’t the new team that cost us it was just lack of discipline Nd a terrible pitch.
Personally saw enough signs that we’ll be ok.

| Thought we looked good when Goudemand was on. Lisone tried too hard. First half we were the best team and had some composure. The two sin bins ment when they upped the tempo we went back into 2023 mode. Need miller back. Not sure Holryod and Oledski would have made any difference tonight.

| Only saw 2nd half so can't comment on 1st. On a positive the Handley try was a beauty. A few of the youngsters will benefit from game time. Hkr seemed to have the better game plan and wanted it more. Some of the yardage carries from us were terrible whereas they constantly made easy meters. Until that stops we'll loose more than we win.

| Lack of discipline and no punch in the forwards - a familiar story. Donno tackle brainless - very lucky
not a red .
As we all knew from last year , we needed at least one prop , so now we suffer . And the waste of an overseas spot for a winger made of glass , who has been injury prone for 4 consecutive years just adds insult to injury.

| Thought Edgell had an exceptional game - Miller could have done a lot worse, had he played
On a night where our pack was second best and playing on a swamp we desperately needed a kicking game. But we were second best in that department too. Worked tremendously hard but we're going to have to under Rohan because we don't score from structured moves near the line, in fact we don't have any. Unfortunately that hard work will see us fatigued or injured.
Same old, we'll lose a lot of close games this year.

| Tough night - terrible pitch and run of the balls that didn't go our way. Hall was clearly offside when he dropped on the ball but Hull KR get a penalty when the captain points out the ref's mistake.
The lack of depth in the squad was once again exposed - players such as Donaldson should be anywhere near SL let alone in a side with play off ambitions. Sangare the same.
What is wrong with Fuisitua - seems like he wants to get paid but not play. On a positive I thought Edgell was excellent.

| I was surprised how clueless we looked close to their line, working off no structure within 10m. Also we ran a few sets from deep with our wingers and centres and barely got our half, with a crap kick at the end of it, just won’t work especially against the likes of saints or wigan.

| Final thoughts on yesterday then onto next week we look committed and there is definitely potential in there as grounds firm up. Biggest immediate opportunities for RS and I know in theory should be there by now are better attacking structure in opposition 25 and more considered use of the bench. Ruan 8 minutes and Gouddemand only one shift. Ackers Bentley and Smith were out on their feet and tired players give away penalties by trying too hard and being a fraction late to the ruck. The above 3 were all outstanding but between them gave away around 6 penalties. Our right side attack looks laboured and everything is backbinside Roberts is not a winger and I would consider Edgill or one of the other kids with more pace as we have a long term gap here.
Positives.
Sangare 23 tackles and good carries with average gain of 11m. I would leave him in as a starting prop next couple of games could be making of him.
Edgill great debut on a difficult night.
Croft is only going to get better if pack improves.
Ash Handley looks in great nick both carrying out of defence and when he gets an open field chance.
Bentley with the right pack balace around him.
Ackers and Smith both strong games.

| Personally, I don't think that's a bad loss. There was an element of luck in their first try, and their second was massively fortunate. Thought Goudemand looked solid in his first stint, and should have been brought on instead of Sangare in the second half.
For me, we keep turning the ball back on the inside and it's way too predictable. We only looked decent going wider, like the break Roberts made, so way too many drop off plays for me.
Pitch was horrendous, so no quick PTBs for Ackers to run from, but I don't think there was much between the teams. The lack of discipline was bad. Donno's was the dumbest thing on the pitch all night with a minute until half time, and cost us the game.
We were better in first half, when they had a man in the bin, and vice versa in the second. No major issues as far as I can see, but would be good to see players back next week.
