If you took the chance to speak to the architect during the public consultation or GH or Caddick generally you'll know that the club are genuinely upset about the limitations that have been placed on the development by the planning authorities. I just don't think money is a factor.

I can understand why there has been no public comment about the planning regs. - the wider implications for Caddick's business.

The next set of accounts should be interesting - the drop in revenue could be significant especially if they don't make the CC final this year. Can't see the RU being in a position to reduce the 1.6m owed!! in fact you will most likely see this increase - profit on disposal has proved very useful.

Having had the displeasure of dealing with Leeds CC planning authority on many occassions, I can assure you that having to significantly change proposals at the last minute, due to the whim of some jumped up elected know nowt, is not unusual.
In May 2006, we sat down with the entire panning committee and the senior planning officer for central Leeds to be given unanimous approval for a significant scheme at pre-planning stage. Six months later I was being told at the main committee meeting that the scheme looked "something out o' Costa Del Sol lad". Unless you've been there, you wouldn't believe it. Frankly, it is a wonder anything gets done round here and it looked a lot better than the derelict mess that sits on the site now.

You seem to be overlooking the fact that we have just been through the worst recession for ninety years and to turn any kind of profit in a business reliant upon discretionary spending is quite an achievement.

Gh has his faults, if you go back to his days at Sheffield, his ability to appoint coaches has been questionable and to my mind, he's only got that decision absolutely right on one, possibly two, occassions. It would also appear that he works in an authoratarian manner and doesn't stand more than one big personality, namely his own. However, in comparison to other clubs and, more importantly the Leeds club of the past, youcan be nothing but, impressed by what he has achieved.

Wow!! - if this is true, and we have no reason to believe otherwise, GH has made himself look like a power crazed petty little man who seems more interested in protecting his own image that the well being of the club.

Yeah good thanks! Weather isn't the best but it's winter, I went to the shops in shorts and t-shirt today and wasn't cold so can't complain. Went to first origin in the week! It was awesome. The fans are a bit quiet compared to the UK but it was a great night.

If Burgess was waiting for an offer from the Rhinos before deciding if he wanted to go to Oz then more fool him.
Either he wants to go or he doesn't, put up or shut up.
Others have moaned about GH taking time to recruit overseas. If as has been stated, time is of the essence, then he needs to know which positions he's looking to strengthen. He can't then wait for one of his OOC players to spend ages making his mind up.
How long should he have given Burgess, 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months?
You can't run a business along such uncertain lines.
I'm sorry to see Burgess go when he did seem to be making progress but it does seem to me that he wanted to have his cake & eat it.

If GH can't now recruit a better option the Burgess then he's going to end up looking a bit silly.

I suspect that GH will be absolutely steaming with rage over the publication of that article given his usual level of editorial control over anything that Peter Smith of the YEP publishes about the club



It's a fairly damning indictment of GH's bullying negotiation style which has always been apparent to anyone who is open-minded about him as opposed to placing him on a lofty pedestal and deeming him as beyond critique.

Assuming Burgess can't secure an early release from his contract so that he can leave immediately (which would clearly be the ideal solution for both player and club given the obvious rift), he needs to avoid any further confrontation, see out his contract to the end of the season and not allow GH any opportunity for litigation or further egotistical and vindictive response.

Attended a couple of Origin games myself in the past... in Brisbane and Sydney... crowd atmosphere-wise, that's as good as it gets over there. Lots of -artistry and shouting from spectators over there but only on an individual or insignificant and isolated small group basis. Culturally, RL fans over there don't exhibit the same mass co-ordinated behaviour that we do to create a genuine atmosphere at games.

Aussie Rules however? Different kettle of fish entirely atmosphere-wise. Absolutely awesome.

When he visits my old man likes the more laid back attitude of the week to week rounds over here. He likes how chilled out it is. It certainly has a different vibe. Good but different. Our lasses family are from Adelaide they are AFL crazy. I didn't really get the game until I saw it live! Now I think it is a cracking sport and you are dead right, the vibe is a lot more partisan.

I didn't like Aussie Rules at all until I attended a few games in Melbourne. It doesn't translate to TV viewing very well at all... you have to attend a game to appreciate it's skill, it's quirkiness and it's subtleties. Every club also has a partisan club song which even I find quite emotionally stirring along with the huge attendances. They make Marching On Together sound like a bunch of choir boys on a sunday morning in church by comparison.

The latest article in the YEP regarding the Burgess situation is less than complimentary to GH if true. For those who haven't seen it, basically it says that Burgess was offered a 3 year deal to stay and given 3 days to agree to it. He asked for a bit more time and the offer was withdrawn and he hasn't played since.

Not exactly the right way to negotiate from our esteemed CEO...
