It depends if he’s been offered silly money elsewhere, our cap needs managing and we shouldn’t be held to ransom by players.

Walters was excellent in his single game for us. Head and shoulders a SL player IMO. Just needs a run of games to build up some consistency.

At 22 and just converting to the front row he's shown good promise and too early to say he's not that good. He's a frame to grow into and as mentioned walmsley wasn't the finished article at 22. If he went to St's I wouldn't picture him being anything but a success

Agreed Seth. I just think it’s got to work both ways. The lad has to be willing to show some patience, it’s not like he’s not played any first team at all under smith. He was trusted enough for the grand final last year and if we’re honest is one injury or suspension away from a run in the first team.

These young players are a challenge their development is seldom linear - as the club has seen with Cameron Smith. You would hope the club has sufficient internal knowledge to spot the talent - not many youngsters left Leeds and have a better career away. However looking the likes of Hall and Dupree maybe this is changing?

IIRC Leeds have a pay scale ie age and international player so GH wont be offering big money but it should be a decent offer.If the rumours about Saints are true then i would think they would have to at least match the hopefully Leeds offer.I can see a lower club offering large contract.
I think Walters should have played more when you look at the first 6 performances Lisone put in and of late Sangare has been ordinary.

May have deserved to play more, but may not. A lot depends on training, and how the player conducts themselves. I’d trust Smith to make these calls…..

That’s positive, the next thing is who’s ahead of him then, and who does Smith think can do a better job in his position….?

Maybe he sees a better pathway to first team football at Saints.
Or maybe he wants to be closer to home.
Or maybe he wants to win things regularly.
Could be a number of things.

But if the Saints rumours are true, then you can't really blame him.
Bizarrely, he'll probably get more game time there.

Walters is obviously behind Holroyd, Mik, Tet, Sangare and Lisone. He’s rightly leapfrogged Donno and you perhaps can take Tet out of that list given he seems to be moving towards back row, and the fact he’s going home. I think it’s a bit strong to say that his route to the first team is blocked.

I get people saying that maybe he deserves the same chance to develop as sangare is being given, but I would hazard a guess that Smith sees their roles as different. Sangare and Lisone are very clearly impact props, where as I’d say Walters is probably being moulded more into the role of the other 3.

Also worth taking into account he may want to be closer to home.

If the team were performing anywhere near their potential I would agree - but they were awful at Leigh, terrible at Cas, appalling against Hull, grim at Hull KR!!

This is true and I understand the need to keep a winning team that`s playing well.
But like you have said we have been awful for large parts this year and fringe players maybe should have been given more chance to impress.
Smith of course has to balance that notion with getting others such as Lisone fit.
But Walters didn`t let anyone down when he did play so not sure what the answer or problem is with Walters.
