| Quote ="DHM"Body has let him down this year. Given that a lot of his game is based on the speed he does things, struggling to be fit has limited his effectiveness. It's all dependent on how fit he can get over the off season and who plays alongside him in the halves. If he's healthy and there are not too many expectations on him to "run" the game he could still be effective I think.
But reality is looking like he won't be able to get (or stay) healthy enough and he will be in a team with no hooker and no game managing half.'"
This.
Always wanted to say that

| I wouldn't write him off just yet. Regardless of one halfback position, we really need someone to steer the team around. Soward and Marshall are the most likely from the NRL. Personally I'd go for Soward because organisation and kicking are exactly his strengths. Marshall has just lost his mojo and hasn't adapted his game to the inevitable loss of pace. Its a bit sad to see him wind up for a run at the defence with his trademark hop skip and jump looking like a slow motion version of him at his peak.

It may not be inaccurate to suggest Soward is at London for a mini-holiday before a Full-Time deal next season.
London were always v.unlikely to go up, which would explain why Soward perhaps isn't at full steam.

Don't be judging him playing half assed in an out of their depth London side. The guy is 'only' 31 and could easily give us a quality couple of years while McGuire walks off into the sunset and hopefully Lilley progresses. If we manage to keep Segeyaro and also get Soward on board our squad would look pretty handy for next year.

| No mate he is gone , just after a pay day, although saying that you would have thought he would make more effort last Saturday to get that as his effort and tackling left alot to be desired and his skill set was none existent

| I have always thought Soward could do a job for us and would go well in SL.
Do any of our resident Ozzies feel he compares well with Sandow whilst they both played in the NRL?
I guess the point I am making is if they were on a par then Soward could easily fit in to the pace of SL and could be just what we need.
If he was deemed inferior to Sandow then maybe we give it a miss.

| To be fair to Mags, the lack of form isn't why I think we need to look at other options. The injuries are the worrying thing.

That was my thinking TBH regards the Sandow comparison.

You may be right but we do need another half who has good experience of carrying a team around the park with a good kicking game. Soward fits that bill if he does indeed have anything of his old self left in the tank. Not a great deal of other options out on the market right now is there?

Does part of this come down to how long we sign him for? I'd hate to get Soward and then next year someone else comes up or Lilley is deemed ready etc and we are stuck with that is probably a heavy wage on the books.

| If he is deemed good enough it would have to be a 2 year deal as I doubt the palyer would want to come for less.
All this is conjecture at the moment as he might have already signed for another SL club or possibly us anyway.

Biff,Soward was terrible, lazy would'nt tackle and had no answer around the park.I've watched Sandow this season and he goes missing in games but Soward wasn't at home for 80mins in that clash. You can't afford that next season.

| So we should move on from McGuire because at 33 he's too old....but we'll have Soward who'll turn 32 over the off season.

| The difference is McGuire has never run a team on his own for any length of time. Soward has. Soward also has a very good kicking game. When he's off he's very off, but if he's on his game he's very good. I'm not saying Soward is the messiah but he'd be a perfect foil for one of our other halfbacks IMO.
It should be pointed out that Soward's unlikely to be on much at the Broncos, and is probably just playing this year to keep fit and get experience on the coaching side.

| Yawn. Soward didn't join the Broncos as part of a multi year deal to get them promoted. He joined them as he enjoyed time away from Sydney in his last brief stay, and he's probably enjoying keeping fit in relatively low-key games whilst he works out where he'll be next year. Will you still be calling him out if he signs for Leigh if you get promoted, or will he suddenly become the best 6 since John Woods?

We do have quality in the forwards, looking at our numbers we made the 3rd highest most metres so we were able to get downfield (surprising because we didn't complete too many sets and had to do a lot of defending.)
Garbutt has made more metres per game than any other prop in the league at 130m+, Galloway gets decent amounts each week. Ferres (despite his flaws of penalties and poorly judged offloads) has given us 100m+ games most of the time he's played which we didn't get from JJB, Ablett or Delaney.
Singleton had a sloppy period earlier in the year great red but is coming back well and whilst Cuthbertson hasn't hit last season's heights he's still a threat that attracts defenders.
I'm personally quite happy with our props and think Mullally can improve now we have a proper hooker (though he ran ok on Saturday but understandably looked rusty).
One issue granted is the defensive side of a few of those forwards, but that has nothing to do with "a half needs quality forwards" as that is clearly said in regards to attacking.
