When fans talk about their rivals it doesn't mean they're obsessed. Over the last 10-12 years there's been a lot of talk about Bradford and Saints (Wigan, not so much) on here and we'll probably be talking more about Warrington & Catalans than we will Wigan next year but it doesn't mean we're obsessed. It's because they're our rivals for success.
The fact that every one in Wigan has this weird idea that the whole of RL is obsessed with them because they bought some trophies 20 odd years ago is, quite frankly, bloody hilarious. Please don't ever stop.
How's it go? FIOS

You mean the Sam Tomkins thread, which was started by a Wigan fan, who started the same thread not only on the Wigan board but on the Saints and Warrington ones too. People naturally start talking about it and hey presto Wigan logic "oh look all our rivals they're talking about us again"

Some serious successes for the Wigan club there
BUT it is quite some time ago that you were anywhere near to being as successful as we have been during the salary capped era of Super League, Its no surprise that you're not as successful now as you simply can't buy your trophies any longer
IMO that is why our club is so much more successful than you and why your fans are so clearly obsessed with our great club and why posters like you spend so much time on here
Come back Rogues when you can do back to back grand final wins (not losses ) because you haven't managed to do so yet, where as we have
Then come back again when you have won three grand final wins on the trot as we have done
Then when you're really successful please come back when you do the treble
But we know that you Wigan fans are selective about your glory years and don't like to live in the recent times whereby you have been clearly dominated by the Rhinos and the Saints
But at least you've got two "Moral Victories" during the past two seasons in Grand Finals that you've lost

It's chicken and egg.
Is it because of your past success........ or because you keep going on about your past success. You don't see anyone puffing their chests out in saints direction, despite the fact they still have more SL trophies than anyone. That's because their fans don't shove it in your face everytime you express an opinion which isn't pro saints.

| Wigan have a fecking enormous sulky chip on their shoulder since Super League started as they're not a big club anymore now they can't buy success, and patently jealous of our success.
I don't post on their forum anymore. Tetchy insular sanctimonious crybabies.

| TBF Rogues is one of the better posters from Wigan, from what I see. It's also difficult to suggest that Wigan bought the trophies when we were just as bad but not as successful. During their successful spell, Wigan always had a good core of local lads and British players whereas I remember Leeds playing with 10/12 Aussies in their 15 man squad.

The post was about now though and not one Wigan poster wants to consider what Phil Clarke said.

| I know, I think the topic should have stood on the Wigan board, whether losing big matches is starting to get into their heads is a worthwhile topic to discuss.
Personally I don't think it is, if you look at the number of players we've lost over the last few seasons and take into account the average age of the squad I think we've been punching above our weight for the past couple of years and we could be in for some silverware pretty soon.
We're definitely a centre short, oh to find another George Carmont from somewhere, but I think we'll be challenging next season if we can keep the squad healthy.

| Think you can break down the losses into the three different competitions
WCC - they were never going to win in Aus, hardly a surprise and they gave the best account of SL teams in this years contest.
GF - probably would've strolled it in 2014 if not for Flower and this year was nip and tuck with Leeds riding high on emotion.
CC - two consecutive QF defeats at home against opposition you'd expect them to beat. Probably not a choke as such as more an underestimating of the opposition.

I agree that losing can be a habit but its not one Wigan have and I just cant understand why Clarke dreamt up that statement. I thought you looked very strong this year. I liked the three quarters and particularly your left side attack in the GF. Obviously Burgess will be a miss but Charnley is more than adequate.
Why did Clarke say it? Is it something Wigan fans have been whispering to themselves?

Wigan didn't reach the last eight of the Challenge Cup this year, the losing Quarter-Finalists were Hull, Leigh, Les Catalans and Widnes.
I'd also say the way they lost to Hull KR was both an underestimation of their opponents and a choke.

| Nah, I'd not stick the chokers tag on em just yet. If, however, they contrived to lose a third successive grand final then that starts to look like Saints' territory all of a sudden.

Still think their's question marks over Saints despite their GF win last year. That was down to Flower's stupidity. Not made Wembley since 2008 either. Even though the last GF between us and them was 2011 we've since knocked them out in 2013 and 2015 playoffs and we've knocked them out of the last three meetings in the cup in 2010, '14 and '15. Their effort in this WCC was embarrassing. Would've been hard for anybody to be the Rabbitohs but pretty confident Leeds and Wigan would've given them a good game.
As for Wigan I think it might be more a case of Wane rather than them. I reckon Maguire would've landed a few more had he stayed. He landed the double in 2013 but had it unbelievably easy in the cup and were fortunate that Wire got Monaghan and Ratchford injured during the GF. They should've landed the 2014 GF but Wane has to take a serious amount of blame for why they didn't.
But as for chokers, still one team head and shoulders take that title.....step forward the Midgets of Huddersfield.

| Remember when leeds used to seen as chockers. The nearly men. Bridesmaids.
Before 2004, if you'd been told ''so errr yeah, leeds are going to win 7 grand finals over the next 12 seasons, beating saints (at that point undefeated in GF's) 4 times in 5 years''
You'd have thought WTF? In my dreams. Before 2004 all this would have been a dream, now it's stone cold reality.
In the recent era, Leeds ability to come out on top in the decider in a tight nip and tuck game is uncanny. Only in 2007 was the game actually over going into the last 10 minutes, all the other grand finals were still up for grabs at that point. Crazy record when you look back over it all.
