I thought Silverwood had a shocker, It was like watching Russell Smith ref Wigan or Ganson ref St Helens. Every time Wigan were struggling lets give them a Pen or forward pass against KR. The Try was unbelievable, what is point of the video ref if he cannot see things like that. This season the refs have been poor, but if they are poor it should be for both sides.

There no worse than ever before, and probably better. However, with the improving TV coverage, they're far more exposed than ever before.
What's always interesting in these threads is the amount of club bias, and the number of fans who don't understand the rules.

This thread is about the officiating of a game between Wigan and Hull KR on the Leeds forum - I don't fully understand where the club bias comes in.

Also, as there are a number of fans that don't understand the rules, could you explain the rule that allows a try that is clearly grounded on the side-line to be given?

Where and when did that happen? I saw a try given where it looked like the ball hit the try line before it hit the side line, which could be what you're thinking of, as that's what it looked like from some angles.

Especially rules pertaining to obstruction.
Many fans think that running with the ball, behind one's own player, is "crossing" and automatically illegal.

I thought the ball was grounded on the try line before making contact with the sideline too BTW.

It was a ridiculous decision- it would be nice to have a valid explanation but I know we won't get one.

If you're that sure it wasn't a try, you must have had a far better view than any of the officials at the game BTW.

It's a good question - I guess i'd like to at least hear his reasoning for awarding it, even wrongly, so some detail would be good. Or an admission of incompetence.

And yes I think I had a better view than 3 of the officials - I also had the same great view as the one actually making the decision: Multiple camera angles, slow motion and clear video footage of Charnley placing the ball down where it touched the sideline.

He gave his reason for awarding it though, that it was felt the ball touched the try line before the sideline.

I don't think there was any video angle that showed the ball touching the sideline before it touched the try line. From some angles it looked simultaneous, but when factoring the curve of the ball making contact with a flat surface seemed valid to deem it hit the try line first.

By the way, if any RFL official publicly questioned the integrity of a coach, I'd expect repercussions for that too.

A definate no try IMO,The ref and video ref had an absolute mare and Hull KR were clearly robbed of the league points

Danny Mcguire was also wrongly not awarded the game clinching try against Wigan this season
Its clear that Wigan have had a helping hand in some of the close games this season and as a result have come away with the league points,without these points that were handed on a plate by the referee's and video refs then Wigan would probably be battling with us for 4th spot rather than for the top spot

I hate to be the Devil's Advocate here, but the corner post hasn't moved. There is enough evidence there to give benefit of the doubt and award the try.

Whilst it is opinions, I watched this last night on the Super League show and there was no doubt in my mind it was no try, every time.

Was it handed to the Video Ref who clearly made the wrong call?
