| My point about Mullally and Ormondroyd (Baldwinson too)is that not playing them puts a big strain on the pack, especially late in the game.
With Galloway out for a little while and injuries or burn out a possibility he has to trust the bench players to do more than 0-5 minutes.

Didn't think Ormandroyd or Walters did too much wrong, certainly both offered more than Mullaly.

| My biggest issue with BMD is we've looked this poor with the ball for over 12 months so it becomes more than just a player issue over that time. We actually look like we don't know how we will play an attacking set from anywhere on the field. Head down up all the time is not pretty to watch.

| Quote ="craigizzard"Incredibly poor second half, no attacking teamwork whatsoever except the relationship between Parcell and Cuthbertson, which looks promising, but then you need halves/fullback to back them up.
Ablett MoM. Cuthbertson and Singleton really good but they had to be, and were shattered in the last quarter. No surprise as McD obviously doesn't trust our other middle forwards, and that's a massive failure of either coaching or recruitment.
Saved by defensive plays by Keinhorst and Briscoe, who were two of our better players, Briscoe in particular.
Negatives...game management...all the intelligence seems to have left the club with Sinfield. None of the three halves were any good, but it's weird that the worst of them, the one who looks like a carthorse loose-forward, was the only one to get 80. Yes, it was a great 40-20 (and drop goal) but that doesn't make up for the rest of the performance. And he will never, ever, ever be a goalkicker.
The other problem with the halves is lack of support from fullback. I know we had that to an extent with Hardaker, but at least he backed up or joined the line. Golding's defence, ball security and positioning was again very good but at a time when fullbacks are being used as extra halves, he got involved in attacking plays presicesly zero times. Whether that's down to him or to the really strange McDermott structure, I don't know.
Also JJB looks finished.'"
Thought Briscoe aspired to average to be honest. As time has gone on, i think it has become more and more imperative that we utilise the better value we would get from handley.
I thought Hall ( bar his pass to Burrow) Ablett and Sutcliffe played really well, Golding is really earning his shirt and proving many wrong, But JJB was my man of the match. If we had a team full of players who ran as hard and tackled as much as he has these first too games, i could line up at halfback and we would win.

Agree about Ward and Watkins (how did Ward get MoM, I thought Stevo had retired?) but Briscoe particularly in the second half came looking for work, made more drives and yards than most of the forwards, and got us on the front foot with quick ptbs and penalties. In a game where he was given absolutely no wingers' opportunities I thought he did really well. As well as pulling off a match-saving tackle after the whole of the rest of the right edge had been taken in my their centre's inside ball.
I see a couple are calling him out, and I wouldn't say he's always a favourite of mine, but on the night I disagree.

| Sutty was also a strange one, obviously the 40/20 and drop goal, as well as some other good touches and carries and generally good defence, BUT if your grading him as a half probably a C or average.
Good player, wrong position imo.

Plenty of appetite for work, couple of tackle busts, nearly always isn't grounded or finds his front, resulting in a quick ptb.
Like you say, with little othe 'winger' opportunity what else could we have asked of him tonight?

| JJB looks far from finished. I thought baring a couple of dumb penalties, his performance was heroic.
I thought Ward was good in the first half, but was nowhere near MOM. Again, I think the criticism of Sutcliffe is harsh, but I'm now convinced he should be a loose forward

He made yards, a lot of them sideways though, he was one of the first to knock on in that 2nd half and his wasn't even forced. Nothing attempt for their first try. He got the sin binning that was more to do with a Leugh players stupidity and it was a bit cringeworthy his footballers dive.

Briscoe did dive, and it was a little embarrassing but only as embarrassing as the ref needing two chances to give that decision, though his was the worst performance on the field.

He didn't do that tonight though, and was safe with the ball. Like you say, can't fault his effort, and maybe I give him too much credit for that. (I blame Achurch for that).
In terms of worse players in SL, I raise you Mullaly based on tonight's performance, and Scott Grix has always been a favourite of mine when it comes to this conversation.

| It's alright him criticising the attack but what's he coaching? He's the coach and should be setting the structure, we have none. We're such a boring team to watch.
We need someone on the coaching staff who played in the backs at a good level

| Id also add, Leigh against a side which only played for 25min and a few welcome decisions from the ref couldnt win, with Saints, Wigan, Hudds, Wire, next up might very easily find themselves with a lot of pressure on them to get 3 or 4 wins from their Wakefield, Widnes, Les Catalans (home), Salford run or they might find themselves out of the running.

| Mullally getting some hammer despite very few minutes also during his spell the whole team was on the back foot.
Simply put we have no structure in attack & when under pressure our lack of composure to set up to kick early is appalling as is our criminal use of Watkins & co.
Mcguire had very little impact so that myth can be put to bed for now.
A long tough season awaits & the need for big changes gathers pace.

| Ward (48 tackles) and JJB (43) did the most work in defense and the later drove the ball in well too and I think he was off the field when they made their come back in the second half. I thought Keinhorst's once again scored a crucial try and made a crucial tackle and Parcell looks sharp on the break. Ablett got through a lot of good work too but with the exception of Cuthbertson in the first half our props were below average. Burrow was our best attacker and was missed in the second half when he was off. A couple of nice touches from Mags but he did not look match fit and credit to Sutcliffe for his 40/20 and drop goal and he also ran in hard but too often ran when he should have passed and looked more like a backrower that a back and never a 6.
Our right wing combo looked slow and vulnerable in defence and non existent in attack. We were without 4 first choices injured players and a not match fit McGuire so there will be improvement to come. But the overwhelming problem is the lack of an organizer who can kick.

I think it's our lack of structure as well...which would be helped with an organiser. But the coaching team need to look in the mirror. The team don't look drilled. Compare them to Cas in attack and we're miles behind

| Sorry but seen two posts now. Sutcliffe had a great game, and Burrow our best attacker.
What are people watching? They were both poor. Sutcliffe at least though won us the game, despite his overall performance.
Parcell was easily our best attacker, our only attacking threat.
As a whole we were awful, absolutely awful. That performance wouldn't have been excusable against a Wigan or Warrington, so why are some trying to justify it against an injury hit championship side.
All it did is highlight just how poor some of the players in our squad are. When this is mixed with poor tactics there is nowhere to hide for those players. Some players however did stand up and put massive efforts in, and as I said earlier Sutcliffe as poor as he is st stand off, won us that game. Without that it would have been a loss.

I'd love to know how many times our winger have touched the ball in the last 2 games when not scooting. They'd might as well be playing union. Last season we were shocking and people said McD deserved another year, well it doesn't look like anything will change. The pack and just up and downers with now flair and struggle to break the line. Half backs struggle to move the ball.

| Also, Stevie Ward not MOM? Stevie Ward not a good game? What the hell again are they watching.
50 tackles, no misses. People cream their pants when JJB gets close to that and misses half a dozen tackles, but a player returning from injury puts his body on line none stop and it's questioned. The guy was phenomenal defensively, making up for others around him.
