| I would be happy with a couple of jokes and a few Mr T or Chuck Norris facts from Bluey, why do they always have to talk about rugby.

We can just refer them to the operational rules of the RFL, which clearly guide the misconduct board towards a fine, rather than suspension. They can't even really argue about the level of fine, because there apparently is (although not a public document on the web) a 'level of fines guide' laid down that the RFL follow!

It depends whether they have rules to cover representatives, coaches and/or players being required to attend post match press conferences or not.
Some sports, I believe, have such rules but I've no idea if the RFL have.

| [i1.4.3 Press conference appearances:
•All Players and Head Coaches must make themselves available for all reasonable media requirements, whether they are for live broadcast matches, non-televised SLE matches or SLE convened events. Such requirements to include Press Conferences and announcements.
•All clubs must comply with the contracted broadcasters contract as in effect from time to time.
Fine: £500 on the first occasion and £1000 on subsequent occasions.
SLE to commit to not making unreasonable demands on playing and coaching staff and to give a minimum of 2 weeks notice where possible via the media manager of the club(s) in question. On gameday all players and coaches must respond reasonably to the contracted broadcaster’s requests for post match interviews.
N.B. SLE will not insist that any personnel need to comply during games. Clubs may use their own discretion during games.[/i

| I get the impression that if Keith had said silverwood was wrong in his decisions rather then him as a person, he may have got away with it. Hard luck Keith as you were right.
Referees need sorting out in this game, It`s not good enough.

| Tis no problem... am I sad to have a link directly to the rules and operational rules on the RFL website saved in my favourites? Or is it more sad that before I checked to confirm tvoc's thoughts, that I was pretty sure we did have a rule and that I knew which section I would probably find it in?

No, IIRC the operational rules (I am resisting the temptation to actual look!) talk about criticism of the official in general, and are not specific about the nature of that criticism.

| According to the YEP online:
[iThe panel said it took into consideration Senior's previous good record during a lengthy career, his admission of guilt and public apology, but felt a fine was appropriate given that it was a personal attack on the referee's character, =#FF0000rather than a criticism of a decision by the referee.[/i
He'll know what to restrict his comments to next time then.
And while on the subject of referee appointments the YEP ask:
[iAs the Super League referees are all professional, they should, in theory, be of an equal standard and, therefore, it shouldn't make any difference who takes charge of which game. So why not have a draw every Monday to decide the following weekend's appointments? [/i
What makes anyone think Cummings has a different system in place.

If it were truely random, then we'd get instances of an official refereeing consecutive matches for a team during the regular season and more instances of referees being appointed to referee their home-town teams.

I think a weekly random draw would be problematic as it could cause all sorts of issues in terms of ref's getting the same side again over several weeks and also lets say, one of them travelling back and forth to France for a few weeks on the trot. However, I quite like the idea of Cummings putting together a 'rota' so that he decides and publishes the ref appointments for the whole of the following month, rather than on a week by week basis! Obviously, he should be allowed to change them if sickness of personal circumstances mean a change, but in most cases it should remain unchanged?

No, no, no, no.
That would give all our opponents far too much time to prepare a dossier to go through with the ref the week before they play us.

| how come referees get so much protection?
cummings defends them no matter how bad a performance they put in and when a player or coach speaks critically about them they are fined.
I know refereeing is extremley tough but why is it such a taboo to say ''ref, you had a stinker''.
