Whilst i can see the similarities i'd say we were left with a stronger squad than the current bulls one imo.
Add to the fact we saw the emergence of sinfield into a 1st team regular closely followed by mcguire,burrow,mathers,walker etc etc.
I guess time will tell how the re-build goes at your place but i personally would start with ditching mcnamara and his staff!!

IIRC we lost Morley after the 2001 season. By 2003 we were a very close 2nd to your all conquering team with all of the above plus some astute signings being regulars in the team. the next year we kicked on to the start of our current halcyon era.

I don't think we'd reached as low as 8th though so you have a bit more to climb.

Personally, I hope Bullseye is right and I hope things pick up for you again, very quickly. Whilst I always gain pleasure from Leeds victories over the old foe I gain no pleasure from seeing Sl's pioneers languishing the way you are at the moment.

Donaldson certainly reminds me of a young Sinfield. He's got plenty of skill, seems to read the game like a more experienced player and isn't overawed at all by plyaing with bigger names.

As for the rest young Whitehead has come though and looks like he's got a lot of potential. As for the rest I'd say they're a bit further off but the likes of Lilycrop, Hellewell, the Burgess twins and others are going to break through in the coming year or two.

However we'll struggle until they do unless we bring in some astute signings.

You were doing so well until you mentioned skill, Sinfield has the slowest distribution in SL, has no pace, gets pushed back in the tackle and although he leads the side well I very much doubt he would be missed in any other department other than his exceptional goal kicking.

McGuire and Burrow would even benefit from Sinfield being out of the mix, he gets in the way.

Donaldson looks a good prospect though, I will give you that.

have often been unsure whether sinfield's better as a stand off or loose forward & he would never be in all time side but could anyone else have led and bound to together this decades sides as he has.

of all the players who came through together has he ever looked doubtful for being selected whether captain or not.

tvoc may provide statistical evidence otherwise but in the times he's been injured can't remember us having periods of dominating sides or other players controlling a game in the way he does.

yes would be amazing if he had the build of farrell, furner, hanley or glanville but to denigrate as nothing more useful than a goalkicker does him a great disservice

I posted on the bulls board time ago that Sam said he was going to manly! It came from his own mouth and that's 100% the truth. I can only presume souths changed his mind at the 11th hour. In the same conversation he also offered someone tickets to the last bulls home game of the season as said person had not seen him play before and Sam said it would Probably be his last home game as a bull.
