For me, Sangare is ok at what he does. It’s what he doesn’t do that bugs me. If you are only going to be on the pitch for 15 minutes then you need to be a whirlwind and cause mayhem. He causes problems for the oppo, just not enough.

I thought Sangare was fine. He offers more impact than some interchange props we've had over the years.
McDonnell said he'd be back for round 2 or 3 going by what he said on Sky.

Would people rather have Sangare or Donaldson at prop?

He gets way too much stick IMO. He played well last night. People saying he isn’t aggressive are watching a different game to me. He is fourth prop out of Mik, Holroyd, Lisone and him but he plays his role. I’d like us to have a #1 or #2 new prop to raise standards but we need to see how the season plays out.

Have we got a contender for southstander.com yearly scapegoat already in Sangare

If Holroyd is fit for KR it would be a boost for sure. Conditions will have a part to play too as we saw last year.. could be wet next week.

Wow. As someone who isnt convinced by Sangare, theres not one thing about his skin colour or his nationality that interests me any more or less than any other player. Accusations of racism when a player is judged on their ability is well, just wow.

As it goes he performed his role well last night. Donaldson though i dont ever want to see starting at prop again, though he is white so im now conflicted

I wasn't accusing you of anything. I was referring to the attitude of SOME fans towards players like Sangare. Some of the things I've heard from fans around me (including yesterday) are disgusting and disgraceful. But it's been like that as long as I've been watching the team. Even Hanley copped it and he's one the greatest of all time.

I want Sangare to be a top class prop but on the evidence of last season he wasn't there. On the evidence of last night he's closing the gap. I think Seth is right in asserting that he isn't a starting prop, and personally I don't think he ever will be. That doesn't mean he can't be a very useful player and fingers crossed he will be. Racism in society (and sport) is a curse, but thankfully despite plenty of robust criticism I don't detect any of it on this forum.

Well anyway I reckon we can beat KR next week. We’re going to have to pick a side who will be difficult to deal with down the middle though.

I also think Sangare was pretty decent on Friday. I think the frustration to this point is that we can all see that physically he has all the tools to be the impact player that we have been crying out for and while we have seen flashes the consistency has not been there.If he could hit the line harder and play slightly longer spells he could become a real game changer. The Goudemand signing could really help his development.In terms of the racism aspect I have personally never heard it but if its happened there should be zero tolerance and immediate expulsion followed by stadium bans.

Since I started going regularly again with the missus 22 years ago I’ve never heard a single racist comment. I’ve been a season ticket holder (North Stand, Western Terrace), done a few play off games in the South Stand, and been to a lot of away games. I don’t think Sangare gets a hard time because he’s black, based on last season it’s because he dropped the ball a lot, gave penalties away by incorrect play the balls, didn’t dominate players smaller than him, didn’t smash opponents and unfortunately for a man his size appeared to be made of papier mache by being injured much of the time. He isn’t going to develop any more physically, his dexterity isn’t going to improve, and the only things we can hope for are that he can remain uninjured, his confidence improves, and someone can do something to rile him to become more aggressive. He’ll be better judged against stronger teams.

Never heard any racism at Headingley since I was 4 years old at my first game in 88’, and certainly not towards Hanley who in my opinion is the best ever!

In fact the only thing I’ve seen at a RL game is at Cas in the late 80’s when someone threw a banana at Henderson Gill. He picked it up, peeled it, ate it and threw the skin back in the crowd. Disgusting behaviour yes, but class from Hendo and he had the last laugh.
