| Good thread this.
Hope you enjoy it mate, Rhinos games are pretty spot on or a match-day experience. Although if you're ever bored and in York on a Sunday afternoon you could do a lot worse than to take in a York City Knights game too.

| kirke did a great job in his early years. he played a valuable role in grand final wins and don't think many would argue with that.
however last season poor and he should have been let go. a terrible decision to keep him on

| Kirkey really does seem to get more bites than anyone! I didn't think anyone would go for that Tad!! Shocked!!
Just start a thread with the title "Ian Kirke", don't put anything else and leave it half an hour. Let's see if we can catch that Bailey thread up!!

That was a quality York outfit in 2005, many ended up in SuperLeague after hat promotion season and we ended up weaker in a stronger division, shame really.
Blaymire (Wakefield)
Fox (Wakefield then KR)
Austin Buchanon (Wakefield)
Brough (Hull)
Golden (Wakefield)
Kirke (Leeds)
Agar (coach, Hull)
Broadbent (Ass. Coach, Wakefield)
Sanctuary (conditioner, Wakefield)
Ferres (CEO, Wakefield)
Wakefield have a lot to answer for...

Perfectly possible to get back to York or even Newcastle after the game via public transport.
Albeit, with not much hanging around at the stadium post game.

| I got dissalusioned with football about 25 years ago, came to Headingley with a mate to watch the touring Aussie side v Leeds. RL all the way since. Dont get to as many games as i'd like cos of distance/work. Once you get hooked you'll realise its the best game in the WORLD, played by real tough blokes who don't get paid nearly enough as they should. Its a fantastic feeling watching RL and the Rhinos are the best!

Absolutely concur. My first game was new season after the 78 cup final win....never looked back. It's a crying shame it's not a bigger sport on a world-wide stage with a bigger pool of potential stars.
I have the utmost respect for anybody that plays the game epitomised by the spirit of the little guy, Burrow.

| Really cant wait now after the last 2 posts, cheers guys. Looks like plan of action will be to get over for about 6pm, bite to eat, couple of pints in the Skyrac or Original Oak and then off to the game for hopefully a try fest.

I've always had in the back of my mind though that it's the size of the sport that helps to make it what it is. I do wonder that if it had the same sort of money getting thrown about as Football what impact that would have on the game?
Either way, you're totally right. It's the best sport in the world. Certainly as a spectator sport. RL is awesome to watch. I think it's designed to be watched, don't get me wrong, I like throwing a ball about as much as the next guy but it really is a very "watchable" sport.
I've never understood Football's appeal as a spectator sport?! Football (IMO) is designed to be played. I think that's why so many people like it. It's a very "playable" sport. You don't have to be very good to enjoy kicking a ball around a park. But as a spectator sport, I really don't understand its appeal!?

PS. Welcome RhinoVirgin, you will have a great evening I promise. As for staying away every other Friday in Leeds you do have an option, get the wife (& kids?) to come and then the issue is resolved. Now firstly, you might not want to get her into RL, that is ok I get that, and of course if you do bring her and she does get into it, it will start to cost you a small fortune... but you will be happy, she will be happy and that is all that matters!

Thanks mate, think ive got a plan though, just heard ive got a fortnightly job to complete every Sat morning in York so will have to stop over every other Fri night Saying that she will probably be happy if I tell her that, that means she wouldnt have to watch the RL on Sky every other Fri night!! As for my daughter, I would rather take her to the RL rather than a bloody Justin Bieber concert which I have to endure next month

I think this is a valid point, RL is an accessable sport, in the early days of superleague I used to sit at break times at work on the same table as Paul Burns (Workington) they were in SL at the time and Les Quirk (St Helens) these guys did a full days work then went training in the evening, Workington were part time, St Helens were full time for their 'stars and imports' the rest were part time.
Also my mate who lives round the corner played a season (or 2) in the early eighties for St Helens, he was a centre and he lost his place in the side to none other than...Mal Maninga, we often have a chat about it.
RL players are (mostly) down to earth guys, people can access them in everyday life.
I remember some years ago when Leeds juniors were at my sons school there was Bailey, Scruton, Ablett, L Burgess, L Smith and many more all willing to have a chat and a joke, you just wouldn't get this with football, this is just part of the reason it's the best sport in the world.

You'd never experience fans from 14 football clubs all drinking together with hardly any bother as we had in Cardiff this weekend, nor would you see the match officials mingling with fans.

"It was him Kylie, he made the call... I had no choice if he's come on with the flag!!". Now this linesmen was pretty young and kinda nervously laughing along. Kylie stood RIGHT OVER HIM, proper looking down on the linesmen in the chair, still hasn't said a word. You could tell he was totally joking in that "lad banter" kinda way but it still must've been pretty intimidating. Anyway, Robbie Burrow is on his way back from the toilet so he pushes his way between Kylie (who still hasn't said a word) and the linesman shouting "Leave him Kylie, leave him he's not worth it!" Kylie just pointed at the linesmen and to his eyes in that "I'm watching you!" hand gesture thing then just cracked a huge beaming smile and had a good laugh with the linesmen.
I love RL.
