For me it is three things;
1. He lack of game time - he only plays 50% of the game at most - compare his game time to Bailey?
2. The number of times he makes a tackle but cannot get back in the line - on three occasions it took him 3 tackles to get back in the defensive line
3. The number of times he is exposed in the middle is a worry - Grix waltzed past him as if he wasn't there for the try?
4. Not playing the ball correctly 20 metres from your own line is unforgivable for a SL player - this is not the first time
Yes he made a huge impact ball in hand - but that should not obsure the tackling issues he has.
Just watch for the above during the Bradford game

I would agree, his big hits kept lifting the fans and players.

Its a difficult one. A big hit can be very significant point in the game, and affect confidence on the part of both players. However, a big hit does not often bring a direct reward in terms of scores. Missed tackles, poor defensive movemnet do, and IMO outweigh some big hits

On point 1 I would say his game time was handled correctly by McClennan to get the best out of him to help the team.
Point 2 is a fair observation. But you fail to take into account the effecitvness of the tackle made. Some of those tackles were huge, and influenced our performance accordingley. I take your point about time taken to get back, but would imagine other players may well have been the same in that position.
Point 3 is very unfair. Grix did not just waltz round Kylie, he waltzed round a couple of others also. It was a very soft try to conceede as a team, not an individual.
Point 4 again whilst correct, is unfair. He isn't the first to do that, and nor will he be the last. And he certainly wasn't the only Leeds player to make errors in his own 20 on Friday.
Your post comes across David as though you accept the big runs he made, but have failed to see the huge tackles he made, concentrating only on the couple of missed ones.
I still think his influence in that result was far greater than you give him credit for.

You're my hero.
I've come to realise over the years, if you want to find an 'honest warts and all appraisal' of an individual then entering 'G1' into the search function saves you both time and effort.
'Bailey shouldn't get near a Leeds shirt again this season, abysmal and gash' being other examples of telling it like it is in your view, which I respect.
The 'soft as s[ihi[/it' post was used purely as an example (be flattered if you like), but if there has been a better one (in the context of back-to-back-to-back's comment) then I haven't seen it.

Its a very difficult situation and I think you need to be a bit more tolerant of Titchy Tinyrod.
He made a geeky Star Trek comment a couple of days ago and everyone ignored it.
He's tried it again and got a similar response.
It must be frustrating when you think you're a genius and everyone else thinks you're a c[uu[/unt. We probably need to cut him some slack.

As usual we must agree to differ
I personally think he is a defensive weakness which the better sides exploit - yes he makes some big hit ups but they are too few IMO - compare his running with the ball to Peacock, that is what you need from a prop.
He may be effective a tackle but if you are not in the line for the next three then you leave your side vulnerable - and it takes out unnecessary energy out of other players covering for him?

| I too think the mark for Kylie is too low and Eastwood too high.
i really did not think Eastwood was in the game at all. Whereas Kylie's contribution was more prominent. i grant you he may be a defensive weakness due to him been out on his feet sometimes, btu what he gave when he did make the hits on Friday was better than anyone else. Also those couple of runs were outstanding.
Personally i think the praise been handed out to Ryan Bailey is getting a bit over the top.
I have always held the view that Bailey is a very good player. This is backed up by the fact he is still a Leeds player long after many on here would have seen him down the road. he is certianly one you would want in your team rather than against you.
He does not carry the ball in with the gusto his body weight deserves. His biggest asset is his fitness and ability to do long periods in defence.

| I'm in agreement with you most of the time but struggle to see how you value Kylie's contribution so poorly.
For years we complained about having a lightweight pack, no go forward etc, etc.
He is one of the main reasons we now dominate other packs. He wins most collisions he is involved with and often targets the opposition key players. Yes, he only plays shorts stints but that suits us, having players such as Bailey and Peacock who can (and probably perform better) play in much longer spells.
The time he is on the field he adds an enormous impact, he lifts people around him. Yes he may be slow getting back after kicks, at times he looks incredibly lazy, but he brings a hell of a lot more positives than negatives.
One of the best examples of his defensive work I can think of is the 12 -10 (?) game at Knowsley Road in the play offs. There was a 5 minute spell in the 2nd half where he absolutely smashed anyone who came near him. In one of the most intense games I have seen in SL, he upped the intensity with his reintroduction. This is what he brings.
To summarise I feel he compliments our other forwards well and is an integral part of our pack. I also like the way Bluey is using him, bringing him on before half time so he can effectively play 4 stints - 0-20, 30-40, 40 -50 and another stint in 2nd half. Getting the best from him IMO

| I thought Eastwood rolled his sleeves up and put in a shift for the benefit of the team.
Solid in defence and was willing to attempt the hard yards going forward.
Which is what we needed and it is what we got.
Are people wanting a show pony?? If so let's just re-sign Jamie Thackray. He doesn't care - he just slings it out.
