I like the look of Chan, but still, this doesn't seem like a priority signing or an improvement on what we have already.

As long as he's out of contract at the end of this season (which IIRC Chan is) then a player can be approached by anyone after 1st May.

Think Chan would be an excellent signing and give us the grunt and spark, that we so desperately lack in the back row, with the exception of Ablett.

Achurch for me is nowhere near the requisite quality we need in the back row, if he is to be our 'x factor' as it were. For me, he's overweight, too slow and too error prone. In his time at the Rhinos, can count on the fingers of one hand how many good games he's had. Notwithstanding that, I understand his attitude behind the scenes isn't where it should be and hence why McDermott has never fully gone with him as it were.

Let's not forget Mitch is only not playing at the moment due to injury. Up until three weeks ago he'd started something like 10 in a row.

Thing is, I'm not sure we are. We have JJB, Ablett, Stevie Ward, Delaney, Clarkson, Achurch, Sutcliffe, Minchella, Foster, Walters & Luke Briscoe all capable of playing there.

Even without JJB (soon to retire) and Clarkson (not kicked on), that's 9 options.

Not for me.He is a fine player but we have plenty of his type in the squad at the minute (granted he is better than most), what we really need if we are looking for a BR is one who can cause havoc out wide and has a real off load game in the mould of Ali. Obviously these type of players don't grow on trees though.

Indeed. Examples currently in SL include, err, erm, well... and there's, err, no. Brett Ferres is probably as close as anyone. I like watching him play. He's no Ali though. Gareth Hock can do great things but he can also do incredibly stupid things and isn't the most enthusiastic of defenders. Ali at his peak was a very rare beast.

I think Ablett better than the above mentioned (Hock, Ferres), more mobile with better speed. has more tricks up his sleeve.

Totally different type of player, and I wasn't talking about an overall level of ability. Ablett has pace, power, runs good lines, breaks tackles. I am, in short, a fan.

What he doesn't have up his sleeve, however, is a lot of tricks.

If we want a br, I would take Larne Patrick over Chan every day of the week and twice on Sunday. However I'd take Kirmond everyday of the week and thrice on Sundays.

All the names mentioned so far are just more of what we have or a waste of a salary. We need a game breaking second rower but the way the game is coached these days those players don't exist so much. The only name I could think of would be Tony Williams, but there is probably more chance of me getting a run out rather than him...

If we see Achurch as taking over from JJB, Patrick is both young and provides that 'impact' we'd be looking for from a bench SR in terms of his hard running.

Been a fan of Patrick for a while, always hits the line at warp speed.
