| Quote ="William Eve"Now that it's been firmly established that finishing [u5th[/u is pole position and the easiest route to the Grand Final under the current play-off format, and particularly so given there's only 4 genuine contenders and 10 whipping boy SL rabble teams who are just making up the numbers... here are my predictions for next season.
There will be 27 utterly meaningless regular rounds of Super League... AGAIN.
Leeds to win the WCC if Melbourne turn up only a week or less before the game. If the triumvirate of Smith, Slater and Cronk all turn up together, it could get tricky.
Warrington, Saints and Wigan to form their irrelevant Top 3 jockeying for position... AGAIN... the rest being incapable of a Top 3 finish apart from one particular club whose preference is to slip under the radar, deliberately target 5th, and manage their resources and efforts for the games which really count.
A whipping boy SL rabble club to finish 4th only to get whipped twice in the play-offs and shown up for the rabble they are... take your pick from one of Catalan, Hull or Huddersfield. The Hull FC rabble might be a good shout for doubling up as next season's 4th placed whipping boy SL play-off rabble.
Leeds to continue their abysmal regular season record against the Top 3 jockey's above. This all but guarantees a position below the Top 3. But they don't want to finish 4th - it's way too difficult an assignment in the play-offs from there (empirically proven - thanks TVOC). Just a little tinkering and fine-tuning required to ensure a 5th placed finish. A mere handful of truly woeful performances against whipping boy SL rabble during the regular season ought to seal it. NOTE TO CLUB: More care required in the fine-tuning department otherwise it looks obvious and blatant (Catalan and 12-Man-Hudds away for instance) and risks bringing the game into disrepute.
Leeds to finish [u5th[/u... AGAIN... to be greeted during the regular season by sundry knee-jerking from the usual suspects. The official club response shall be a series of much soul-searching and patronising platitudes released in the press (courtesy of Peter Smith and the YEP) about how unfathomable their regular season form is but they are really trying to put things right and they possess the character and belief to finish as high up the table as possible - no, really - and your regular season ticket is extremely good value for money and the club remain confident of hitting their target of 10,000 of [url=http://rlv.zcache.co.uk/build_a_mug_customised_photo_mugs_or_tea_cups-p168175213650453710enw9p_400.jpg[uthese[/u[/url.
TAXI FOR McDERMOTT! McDERMOTT OUT! From the usual suspects.
Leeds to reach another CC Final on the back of wins against championship or whipping boy SL rabble. May have to beat one genuine contender en route. Another CC Final loss as the timing of it does not fit snugly with Leeds timetable of peaking at the right time as they are pre-occupied with fine-tuning their deliberate targeting of 5th place on the SL ladder.
TAXI FOR McDERMOTT! McDERMOTT OUT! From the usual suspects.
Leeds to face whipping boy SL rabble in Week 1 of the play-offs at home. This should be against the team finishing 8th, but given the financial climate and a salary cap level which only a handful of top SL clubs can genuinely operate at, the likelihood of clubs being issued with winding-up orders and going into administration remain high. Therefore it could be a home game against the team finishing 9th, 10th or even 11th. Cue the usual suspects claiming this could be a really tough game.
Leeds to face whipping boy SL rabble in Week 2 of the play-offs away. That'll be against Catalan, Hull or Huddersfield then. Cue the usual suspects claiming this could be a really tough game.
Leeds to face whoever selects them in the Semi Final. Warrington, Wigan or Saints away. Tricky, but Leeds to grind it out and edge it, whoever the opposition might be.
Leeds to win the Grand Final.
McDERMOTT IN! (with reservations). It was all Sir Kev and the lads really.
To be followed by further [url=http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/leeds-rhinos/danny-mcguire-leeds-rhinos-didn-t-coast-interview-1-5004718[upatronising platitudes[/u[/url about how disappointed the club were in finishing 5th and they were trying to finish a lot higher all along because it's a lot easier from there - no, really - but who cares (twitter feed alert!) we have the character and belief to win the games which really count, even from 5th, pulling another rabbit out of the hat, it just gets harder, how good are we, eh?
Sir Kev to be ignored for the MoS award after overseeing and orchestrating 27 rounds of regular season mediocrity AGAIN. Cue sundry outcries of disbelief from the usual suspects.'"
Sadly probably a lot of truth in this.......although I'm sure not all will be so compliant next season and the contenders will be more inclined to take a leaf out of Leeds' book by serving up a lot more low intensity matches for the majority of the season. Great
.....followed by the farce of a world cup.

| I haven't actually bothered to read any of this. Presumably it's much the same as William/Keith/AP posts over the winter every year? I did notice the general gist of "the usual stuff from the usual suspects" which would be hilariously ironic, but probably not hilarious enough to be worth reading in any more detail.
Followed by various doom and gloom stuff from regular posters?
Mr T judges you all. I wonder how some people drag themselves out of bed in the morning.

I do wonder why some of the posters on this board actually still bother with SL when they show such apathy towards it. Must come from past enjoyment of the sport and they're sticking with it out of routine only......these same people then ironically will be the ones all season calling others sheep for buying Season Tickets and attending regular season games.
God bless The SouthStanders Misery Crew!!!

| It just shows what great coaches McLennan and Smith were. They wone Grand finals without taking it easy during the season and without reaching GG's from the optimum 5th position.

Gary Hetherington admits that Leeds Rhinos will probably not be in a position to make any high-profile signings until early next year - and it may only happen once the 2013 Super League season has started.
The club's chief executive has made no secret of the fact they are chasing a top-class centre and believe the solution may lie within the NRL.
The Super League champions are keen to plug the gap created by Brent Webb's departure but have so far failed in bids for Salford's Joel Moon and Keith Lulia of Bradford.
And with Australian clubs set to receive a bumper deal from television rights, their counterparts in the northern hemisphere are finding it difficult to attract players from the NRL.
However, Hetherington remains confident he can land a big-name centre from Down Under, saying: "I have spoken to many NRL clubs directly and player agents and they are all aware of our situation.
"But the likelihood is that our search may extend into the start of the next season.
"It has been well documented that we are looking to add a quality player to our squad for next season.
"The majority of NRL clubs have not started back for pre-season yet and I am sure there will be some movement once teams have had the chance to look at their squads and perhaps need to free up space within their salary cap."

"We'll win it from eighth, we'll win it from eighth, we're Leeds Rhinos we'll win it from eighthin"'"
Sadly this is probably the challenge left for Sir Kevin! Wouldn't mind a cup final win along the way though

| I hope we finish 1st and Wigan and Warrington finish 5th and 6th having taken their foot off the gas believing this is what they need to do to win, and we meet one of them in the Playoff Semi at Headingley and people think this will be the time for one of them to exact revenge for the previous 2 years and prove that 5th is the best place to finish and we'll be the ones to suffer for having played better during the regular season.................and then they still lose to Leeds and we then win the Grand Final....AGAIN!

There's no need to hope for that outcome - it's a given
I look forward to Leeds attitude of utter contempt for the regular season fixtures along with the deliberate throwing of fixtures (let's call it strategic positional tweaking) against whipping boy SL rabble which is necessary to establish that coveted 5th place finish.
Like GH, I remain confident that Leeds can reach their target of 10,000 mugs next season.

| Personally think that Leeds will finish higher up the table this year (injuries permitting)
I cannot agree that Leeds throw matches to get 5th spot.
But I certainly think there will be more of an emphasis to finish higher up the table. Not to the same degree as Wigan did last year and run out of steam.

But the thing is, the only real advantage is to finish in the top 2 it does not matter where you finish outside of these places as the advantages are so slim its not worth worrying about as we have proved in the last 2 seasons. There is no incentive for Leeds to change their strategy of peaking when it matters and coasting through the rounds.

I personally see the next year like 2009. Not saying we are going to win, but there has been some criticism from people, just think that they are going to go out and try and prove they can win both league leaders and GF. If they do or not is another matter but I get a feeling that's what we are going to do

| I think much depends on how the fixtures fall this year. I mentioned on another thread the run we had in May/June which happened to be the gap between CC rounds. It involved a very tough run of fixtures and also tough away games against Wigan and Catalans the week before the WCC/CC Finals.
Looking at the teams above us....
Warrington will be much the same.
Wigan I think will take a backwards step due to playing personnel changes, especially if Hock leaves too.
Catalans depends on the new coach, whether he's more of a Trent Robinson or Kevin Walters.
St. Helens, for me the hardest to predict, will they be the same under Brown as the Giants were? Strong early pace setters who fade away badly or will their experience as a bigger club help them last the course of the year?
There is also the CC, another full run to the final will have an effect on some league results. We can't battle on 4 fronts (WCC, CC, LLS, GF). As the WCC is a 1 off game it won't be that so that means we'll have to drop in one of the other 3.

Not a bad shout.
Can see Wigan not being as strong as it stands with the losses to their squad.
Wire will be much the same as they have in previous years.
Don't really rate brown as a coach so not sure how saints go.
Hudds don't think are as strong as their fans think
Leeds who knows!!
Hull would be a good outside bet

| Well would you Adam and 'Eve' it!
Having been wrong about Champions Leeds for at least the last two years, Willy has now crept out of his retreat and decided to thrill us with his predictions.
If you can wade through the repetition of his limited vocabulary (which this time round seems to back everything both ways in his attempt to avoid a hat trick of defeated opinions) we could conclude that he finally accepts that Leeds will be favourites to retain their Championship despite all handicaps.
Perhaps he is keeping his current name because of a hidden message BillEve it!
