Perhaps the more relevant question would have been: how did Catalans lose 0-46 to that Salford team?
My answer would be that they played a very similar game to Leeds' recent efforts which Salford exploited without mercy.

| Salford a team of misfits, fallouts and players moving from relegation club to relegation club, yet this year, exactly like Wakefield , Huddersfield and London have shown that with a great team spirit , a good coach and back up team they can get a team playing well. Leeds v London next week will be no push over, unless we are on top of our game we could lose this game as well. What are the comments going to be on here if we lose against London. Is this a must win game, if we lose on Friday who will we be blaming, because if we do lose it shows that what we went through last year we have learned nothing and that hurts.

| Lolohea was hopefully the last of our bargain bin overseas players. He was a reserve grader last year, and got fat playing in the NSW cup. He seriously needs to slim down and try to regain some speed.
He has a good pass on him, but hasn't been the main playmaker before. It will take him time to develop into the role, but its so hard when the pack is as genuinely awful as ours.

He has skill, pass and kicking game when he's on. His bombs are immense and I like his short kicking game (not in evidence against Hull, granted).
Too early to form a real opinion on Tui to be fair. There are some positives from the pack compared to last year IMO: Oledzski has been good after a quiet first game. Peteru has been putting the effort in on the whole, probably deserving of keeping a squad place on his performances this year so far. I think Dwyer has looked keen and sharp. Merrin looks solid if not spectacular. Ward WAS in really good form before the inevitable happened again. So there are maybe 5 there who I'd retain into next year. Honestly don't think we'd miss any of the others, assuming Parcell is off (who is good when playing in a strong pack). Crosby needs to do something this year once he's back playing again, and Donaldson - 50/50 on him. Great attitude in defence, which God knows we need, but probably another squad player at best. Both players were deemed expendable by their previous clubs, and again this is what Leeds seemed to be resigned to now, mopping up other people's problems. We lack first grade starter players, not squad fillers, especially not with the academy talent coming through now who need clear pathways.

| Expecting the same squad as Hull.
Can't see McCellend getting a game anytime soon. Probably the 1st cup game I imagine.

Playing in his natural position or one he's equally good at no doubt.

Back row. But very involved in a lot of moves. Seriously he would be better than Sutcliffe in absolutely any position.

With Sutcliffe being one of our best players v Hull I doubt they’ll drop him though.

In what way was he one of our best Frosties? Just because he made 41 tackles? He didn’t break the line once, and offered zero threat.
Smith was dropped after been the top tackler against Wakey, despite playing stand off. How many halfs make that many tackles? Sure he missed some, although not as many as Sutcliffe as previously done. And he still managed to threaten the line with five tackle busts. But of course he got dropped.

| Here’s my take on the Sutcliffe / Smith situation. I think all at the club know that Smith will make the grade as a back rower, and they are giving him playing time in that position just not at Leeds at the moment.
As Furner has a ‘free hit’ for the first half of the season, he’s trying Sutcliffe out to see if he could make the other back row slot. He doesn’t feel confident in playing them both together due to a lack of experience. Once Sutcliffe has played a dozen or so games there, Furner will know if he can truly cut it in a new position and will make the call.
Smith will be one of the back towers for Leeds for many years to come.

I fear we'r goin to end up losing Smith, he must be getting fed up. We'v got the worst second row combo in the League, a lad Hull KR got rid of on the bench, who offers decent defence but nothing else and Ablett, Ward and JJB injured...And Smith still cant get a look in, despite offering more than most of them. Furners shout for more experience after the Hull game dosnt bode well for him either...Hearing he's doin well for Fevs good news, but dont think its goin to help his chances unfortunately. Cant for the life of me see what Furners thinking with our backrow.

Hope your right, id rather use the free hit to get the youger, better player superleague experience but could live with what your saying.

Agree.
Imo we all knew it was a big rebuild & i was thinking 12/18mths but at this rate i think 3yrs+ with this approach to recruitment & retention.
Its time players were facing consequences for poor performances & i mean ALL of them.
Of course i an see why DF would stick with Tui at 6 given its a brand new partnership with Myler. But that pack is pathetic & at the very least Trout (now on loan) C.Smith Johnson & Holroyd should be getting minutes in their respective positions.
Powell ripped a squad apart & rebuilt from the ground up whilst signing quality pros & blooding our better youngsters that type of cull needs to happen again.
Whilst its great to get 2 Marquee players when you still need rid of 10 or so has beens or never will bees it will make very little difference.

But those are the exact reasons you like Donaldson and he offers no threat, breaks no tackles and makes no metres.
Of course Cam Smith should be ahead of both Sutcliffe and Donaldson neither will ever be a good enough back rower for Leeds.
Cam Smith will make errors, he's a young kid developing and building his career. We have to accept that and allow him to grow into a Super League player. The golden generation all missed tackles at Cam's age and he should be allowed to learn from his mistakes too. He's a good young player.

He didn't play second row. Actually played fullback, and had a decent game. However, from the games I have seen of Fev, I would say Turner is a better fullback, who moved to wing yesterday.

| I think Tui could be a good player if he lost 3 stone. I'd look at taking him out of the team for 6-8 weeks with the sole intention of losing as much weight in that period as he possibly can then introduce him back in when he should be fit enough to make his tackles and not make 3 other players attempt to cover for him.

Or take Myler out of team, and move Tui to defend on the left edge instead.

| I think I saw more from Tui playing against Wakey at 1 than we have in all his other games combined. His footwork could potentially do some damage on kick returns too. Granted he'll be caught after about 15 metres but still...
