I stand correct on the stats, but Graham has been nowhere near as effective as Hodgson who has been outstanding and the most influencial player in his teams success over the full season. Had Hodgson played in the game Saints just won against the Huddersfield under 16's then Saints might not have got 2nd spot!

| I watched Ryan Hall, Keith Senior and Peacock last night and remain amazed that none were shortlisted for man of steel and that Brett Hodgson is ahead of them.
Why do our players never get recognised? Are other teams really stacked with the best individuals, year after year and, if so, how do we keep managing to be champions?

It is a strange one but i'm sure the players don't worry too much about it when they keep getting the "Big One" at OT.

| While I don't disagree with G1, my views are that all our players have the advantage of playing in a team of generally outstanding individuals. Therefore, as I've discussed elsewhere it's harder to single out one Rhinos player to be MOS.
Hodgson has made a significant difference to arguably an otherwise trealively ordinary Giants team.
His contribution has improved the whole team to such an extent that they've finished 3rd this year.
Can we honestly say that any of the Rhinos players mentioned has had such an impact on the entire team?

The Saints teams have been packed full of brilliant individuals, even if collectively, despite what their fans might believe, they have slightly under acheived. Yet they still manage to receive individual recognition year after year after year.

IMHO Peacock,Senior,Sinfield and Webb have continually shone as individuals in an outstanding team.
Just look at some of the tighter games this year plus we finished 4 points clear at the top with the above been integral in that achievement.

Don't expect any attention for being league leaders otherwise you'll be in for a long and lonely wait! After all, it's just a meaningless tinpot piece of silverware, isn't that right?

Agree entirely but this year Graham has almost single handedly carried their pack.
I can't stand the bloke but can appreciate his contribution.
I think that the term Man of Steel rather diverts attention from what should be the correct title for the award. IMO it denotes hardness and strength under fire, attributes most readily demonstrated by forwards due to their role in the game.
If the award was entitled Most Valuable Player ( a concept well known to you from American Football) possibly that would alter people's conception.
On that basis Michael Dobson could be the leading contender but I find it hard to conceive of him as a Man of Steel.
All my personal thoughts only of course.

And had Graham played last week against Catalans that Hudds game may not have mattered anyway.
They both fully deserve their nominations and either would be a worthy winner.

Currently debating the issue over PM with Carlos Alberto, a man who has clearly had a serious "sense of humour" bipass.

I would argue that the cup semi-final disproved your opinion.
I don't think anybody shone in tonight's game.
2 tired, injury-racked sides who knew that whatever the outcome they would still be in the tournament.

I don't want to diss the guy too much. He's a good player, he's had a good year but no way has he had the impact on the league that Peacock, Hall or Senior have.

In the final analysis it all boils down to a matter of opinion not fact.
Do you know how the shortlist of 3 was produced?
Was it based on the voting of the players or does that simply apply to the final 3?
If the former, then those who are paid to play the game have decided, presumably through a democratic process, that the 3 players nominated are those whom their peers deem to be the most worthy of the title Man of Steel.
Whose opinion is more valid, mine or yours or their colleagues and opponents?
