| Nah then.
Actions are louder than words. Use your fists.
A good example of that was when they cheeky half back mouthed off at Mr Bailey the other Friday. It was an appropriate and expected reaction from one of our membership.
Thanking you kindly.

I actually watched this before I posted the OP. Nice to see him get some, but to his credit he got straight back up.

Andy 'Eight Match Ban' Dannatt.
Wonder if Hanley ever got him into court over it.

It was Andy Dannatt, but the "rugby gods" got their own back when he moved to Saints and we played them in the 1994 CC semi at Central Park. Dannatt was being interviewed at pitchside when Hanley when over for the clinching try. I don't remember his exact words, but they were along the lines of "Oh bollax, Hanley has just gone over and sent them to Wembley...."
Justice was served.

| Of course it was! Cheers TVOC.
BTW, I'd recommend looking up 'Warrington v Wigan - World War 3 ' on touyube. A great bit of stuff from Cullen.
And Dannat's words were 'Ooh, ey up, there up in here!'

According to one of the comments, the Wigan getting sent off for flooring Cullen stands on Cullen's hand as he walks past, which makes rage overcome pain for Cullen and go after him.

I was proper laughing at that one, particularly the flying Kelvin. Who was the bit in the middle, Halifax and Leigh? the one where the winger kicked the other fella up the before getting leathered.
The don't make rugby players like they used to, more's the pity...

It was Andy Goodway. Very distinctive jogging on prone player's hand style.
Impressive recovery from Cullen you have to say.

Me and my mates used to stalk the '94 Kangeroos in the bar at the Holiday Inn where we could (just about) claim to be old enough to be served the Tooheys they had imported to serve them. But seeing the Channel 9 team there (yes there was a time when they didn't just take the Sky feed) was even better - they were our real heroes.
Now compare to this coverage from the same game:

or indeed this:

In both cases the British commentary just ruins things but the line [i"somewhere in the background Phil Ford is running around trying to find someone to hit"[/i absolves Stevo from the blame for that.

Someone on here is named after an appendage of someone who played in that game and played Jiffy off the park at 6.
Can't believe they replaced Tugger with Cruikshank. Deary me.

Great cover tackle on a flying Brimah Kebbie. Back in the days when as a defender, while it was nice for the opposing player to have the ball in their possession it wasn't always an absolute requirement.

| Is it misty eyed sentimentalism that leads me to believe there was more to enjoy about the game in those days, or was it really played by hard men and skillful players?
DH (with or without the M) was one of my favourite players at the time, and by comparison with some of today's "superstars" he would be very very good indeed.

| Just since Blocker Roach was mentioned....I was listening to Andrew Johns on the radio the other night and he talked about Roach's first team debut. Apparently at the first scrum his opposing prop (some older guy) smacked him in the mouth, at which point Roach started shaking. The guy who hit him asked if he was scared, to which Roach replied "No - I'm excited!".

| Yes I remember it. Hill then went to hide behind Karl Fairbank before pointing the finger at Cliffy telling him all the things he was going to do if he ever caught him. It was hilarious.
Not as funny as Marty Gurr running 40 yards to smack one of the Northern players the year before at the same place mind...

The player in question was Phil Ford, who, after going 80 yards to score, decided to give Gurr a wave as he rounded him.
Marty took this as disrespect.
