| I see. Unlike you, I saw all of Schoey's career.
I also have an insight into Shcoey's influence in the dressing room.
Doug Laughton was a very succesful coach and player. He knew what it took to win trophies. He even won them during Wigan's era of dominance.
Why do you think Laughton was so desperate to get Schofield out of Leeds?

Scapegoat for what precisely?
Why would a coach with a track record of success at one of the biggest clubs in the world, starved of success be so desperate to get rid of one of the best players in the game? Apply some logic to this now, not just re-hashing what Schoey has told you.

Why do ex-leeds players still speak to Schoey if he's all to blame?

| P.S
1995 CC Final, was it Schoey that told Holroyed to kick the ball back from the kick off giving Wigan possesion or DL?
Schoey can't be blamed for bad tactical deccissions

Don't avoid my question. Follow the logic.
Do you think Laughton didn't want to win trophies at Leeds? If Laughton wanted trophies why would he be so desperate to get one of the games best players out of there?
I'll help you to the conclusion. Laughton, as a coach with a proven track record of being a winner, knew that Schofield was such a divisive influence in the dressing room that the club would not achieve anything with him around. If the club were to be successful he had to go.
Was Laughton wrong? Could Leeds have won with Schofield in the team? Well, the evidence says no, they couldn't (Yorkshire cup aside).
Maybe Laughton was a fool and didn't know what he was doing? Well, all the evidence previously would suggest otherwise.
So, what is Schoey's version? Why does Schoey think Laughton wanted him out?

| I've read the 1st post and cant be bothered reading 8 pages of tripe, sorry if i've repeated someone!
IMO Harlequins deserve some recognition for the way they played, I stopped behind and applauded them off the field because they deserved it! They came to Headingley with a game plan and stuck to it and got the win!
Leeds didn't play well, granted, but they weren't allowed to play well thanks to a good rush, in the faces defence, maybe leeds should look at standing a little deeper in attack to negate this kind of defence?

Agree with your last point, but will say that both sides on Friday were continually offside. As it was reffed the same for both sides, not a problem. It is up to one side to come up with something inventive to get round this (like standing deeper).
However, that said, although he was miles offside, it p1ssed me off somewhat when he disallowed Donalds try for the same offences he could have pulled 50 times upward throughout the game.

I dont know, thats why he gave you and others the oppertunity to ask him face-to-face.
It's my perception that if a coach doesnt want a player at the club then he gets rid, if DL wanted rid of him why didnt he get rid?

so would you rather have a try allowed for cheating rather than sticking within the rules?

How far offside was Donald by the way? From my vantage point it was impossible to tell.
On the whole issue raised, it's a difficult one. If the referee has consistently failed to penalise an offence, despite having say 20 opportunities to do so, surely it's reasonable to assume he's going to let the 21st one go as well. And how many tries are scored after an incorrect play the ball? That's cheating as well.

they should all be ruled out then!!
if the ref calls it, its a penalty/try/scrum whatever, referees don't win or lose games end of story!

I agree with both you and LP.
Afterall ref's don't miss tackle's,have a poor kicking game and try impossible offload's and by the same token if 1 incorrect ptb, marker's not square,or tackle inteferrence is penalised they ALL should be.

| Steve Ganson is a frustrating referee for one reason above all the others. He's inconsistent. Those occasions where he is determined to let the game flow (ie almost zero penalties, no knock ons or forward passes) regardless of the players actions often results (not surprisingly) in a poor spectacle.
Re: Schofield V Laughton. Laughton would tell the press when questioned about Schofield's future at Leeds, that he never sells good players let alone great ones but as we all know what a coach says in public is not necessarily what they say in private.

| At least some posters give these lads there support. What a wonderful passionate and true supporter this handsome fellow is. Quote ="G1"Not this team, no. Not me.
You see, our fekkwitts who slate a player like Harris and throw around the term "loyalty" really don't understand what it means.
I'll tell you what it means to me. It means to me that this group of players is the greatest collection in our clubs history. Before they came along, we'd been champions 4 times in over 100 years. These boys have brought us 3 championships in 5 years and I don't think they're quite done yet, despite some defeats in April.
This is our time in the sunshine. This is the greatest era in our clubs history. Legendary names like Lewis Jones, Arthur Clues, John Holmes and David Ward didn't do what these lads have done. This era won't last, of course it won't. But whilst these lads are in the shirt they'll get no boo-ing from me, even if they don't win another game for the next three years.
You see, I crave loyalty from the players, just like other fans. But the players deserve our loyalty too, especially players who have delivered what these lads have.'"
God I feel smug right now.

Do you honestly think the majority on here will have even heard of Ray Batten let alone seen him play, let alone realise he was fourth in line for the John Holmes minute silence.
Arthur Clues makes it but no Lewis Jones?
First name on my team sheet would still be Mick Shoebottom.

Holder of the record for the number of tries scored by a forward in a season until a certain Mr. Hanley came along? Heard of him but, regrettably, not old enough to have seen him play.
Speaking of Hanley, he should be in the all time list, as should Adrian Morley.
