I'd take him in a heartbeat also as mentioned elsewhere Toovey id also test Parramattas resolve re-Brad Arthur or there's Ivan Cleary or Justin Morgan.

Coaching, and sport in general is circular, and I always remember after Bluey leaving comments made basically saying he'd outlived his shelf life. It didn't mean he wasn't a good coach, or take away from what he had achieved with us, it was just time for a new voice.

I think the same will eventually be said of Mac, he was perfect for us for a spell, and his record attests to this and the fact that he can without a doubt be a good coach. But very few stay on for as long as him, even after success like he has enjoyed.

We needed to sign a decent hooker and half back to have any chance of a trophy plus a new coach , we have gambled on a hooker {left with little option) the other two we have ignored and it is blatantly obvious that leaves us in a mess .

Is there any evidence from the club that McD is under any pressure whatsoever?

He certainly isnt going to be under any pressure for losing a friendly more than a month before season starts.

I'm not the biggest McDermott fan in the world, and personally for me he has run his race at leeds and it's time for a change.
I don't really get all the stick he is getting over the Boxing Day press conference. What do you all expect him to say. It is a completely meaningless fixture it's a pre season pre season fixture, it is an opposed training session for the team. Yes people paid near 20 quid but you all knew what the fixture was before going

Yes you will hear rumblings that the coach is under pressure but i never get that impression with McD. All i ever seem to get is that he is trusted by GH. I never get the impression he is under any threat at all despite the fans unhappiness at him.

And as for GH being unhappy at McD suggesting the fans paid £18 for a training session i would think it would fill GH with glee. He will still be sat at Headingley now double checking every single copper coin that he has managed to get out of the fans.

I never go to the Boxing Day game because i simply dont agree with it. The players should be allowed Xmas with their families instead of preparing for a game. Everyone i have spoken to seem to be moaning that the players didnt look to even know each and looked clueless but what was they expecting? This time of year isnt about team structure and ball work its about weight training and fitness work.

Perhaps if the team he is coaching didn't put in such abject performances his press conferences might be less stressful and his responses more appropriate.

For those of you saying Mc.D is right etc & those of us who attended basically got what we deserved i refer you to his pre-match PC then the hypocritical response to the abject bilge his team produced.
Marty as an attendee of these games for years i know full well "what to expect" however what was produced should be unacceptable on every level.
Yes they are generally error ridden with the obvious cobwebs but 95% of the time they produce some reasonable RL.

Again id expect at the very least a basic structure to be produced with or without the ball this was neither & the Coach/Team deserve the pelters they get rather than the fans deserving that garbage.

The game is what it is though. A meaningless friendly in the middle of pre-season. Every year people go and after its always negative comments. Its a mickey mouse meaningless game.

Like i said mate given 2016 & the Coaches pre-match comments i dont think it's unreasonable to expect better than what was produced.

But people pay it and go. Was there near 11000 people there. No ones forced to go.
From the comments we were dross but we were dross all last year and with the quality of recruitment wouldn't have expected anything else.

All we heard about last year was the pathetic excuses about preseason, floods, spotty, etc. Preaseason was such an excuse for those defending at all costs last year. Wouldn't that surely make this preseason all the more important?

This is it for me. Nobody expects a great performance or great rugby, but you do expect the game to be taken seriously. Pre-season games are for putting into practice what you've been training - a chance for a bit of trial and error. A chance to see how things work when put into practice....

If it's just being used as 'an opposed training session' and the coach/players see it more of a hinderance (that's certainly the impression I've got) then the club are simply using it as a money making exercise and charging £18 doesn't seem reasonable to me.

In the days of winter rugby the boxing day fixture was an important competitive game in the middle of the season.Nowadays very few people take these friendlies seriously.Most media don't even report the results.

As usual you miss the point - the loss is irrelevant it the club taking the p1ss out of its customers after doing the same for the previous 10 months - shows the management are slow on the uptake

You know you aren't forced to go to the match? In fact a key reason many go is just to avoid their families for a few hours over Xmas, not because of the rugby.

The guy has said in previous Boxing Day post match press conferences pretty much the same thing if not worded entirely the same, he's even said he'd prefer as a coach NOT to have a fixture on Boxing Day but has to do it as it's tradition for the club. Also I seriously doubt the guy is in charge of setting the admission cost for the game.

Brian Mcdermotts post match comments were disrespectful to the 10,300 crowd and to Wakefield Trinity who every year give it a go and appreciate that they are there to entertain which is what the sport is..entertainment. If he wanted an opposed open training session then tell the sponsor who will have paid good money for the event, the club's paying the players wages, the fans paying the equivalent of £200,000 in gate receipts etc... Trinity had such an opposed open training session at Belle Vue a couple of weeks ago v Hull KR and only charged £1 per person entry not £18. On the plus side, Delaney looked healthy. Evidenced by more tattoos on show and less bandages. As others have said mullalley and ormondroyd banged in. Mullalley twice got his nose through the line, the fact I am noting this as a highlight is a clue to the scale of the negative side.

Wakey looked ready to play and kear likes to get of to a flyer and hang on through the season. Leeds looked like some had bulked up but now need to get match conditioned. Keinhorst looked like a man playing In another man's body. Him at ablett and centre were awful.

As others have said the really alarming part was that Golding, Sutcliffe and lilley produced nothing in a rudderless display that matched last year. In the first half Leeds got about 4 sets on the line mainly through luck. On the first tackle of another repeat set Sutcliffe ran laterally to he corner flag which he did all game, produced the usual dummy were he does not even look right and got caught, threw a hopeful ball to briscoe before being pushed into touch before Leeds lost the ball. Utterly clueless.

Leeds have 10 to come in etc but only McGuire as a potential game manager. Based on that , Unless Leeds sign another half (which they won't) Joel moon will have to play 6 to make us even vaguely threatening.

Agree with others, pre match McD was saying we need to show some sharpness and that a flat performance last year rolled into a poor season. Yesterday was even worse and now it is just a training run.

I think fans patience will wear thin pretty quickly this year if tripe liked that gets served up in the first few rounds.

Both McD and GH will get it in the neck because with no signings and the same clueless work ball in hand it could be.grim viewing. I thought Leeds would look much sharper and coordinated, I was very much mistaken.
