People have been getting leaflets through the post about the housing in Tingley and I've seen on Facebook a lot of locals are already kicking off about the prospect of more new houses being built.

And so they should. If I lived somewhere backing on to greenbelt or countryside I would be up in arms about it. But in reality it will make very little difference if, indeed, Leeds CC have designated the land for housing. They are legally compelled to do so.

I wonder how long the club have owned this land and the reason for acquiring it? Is it really owned by Caddick's company?

An old friend of mine's uncle used to in the 70's. The old guy was still working in his engineering company in his early 90's. So I guess it did him no harm, lol. imagine it is a fairly peaceful place to live except for 20 nights a year when rhinos and 20/20 on. And if you are a fan nice short walk home. I'm starting to sound like an estate agent so will stop rambling.

Understand some of the sentiment and regret at the south stand going but the club have to act. It is falling down and the north stand seats were built in an age where more people were the size of snow white's friends. This looks like about as good an option as could be hoped for and I expect if the team keeps winning all 3 stands will get close to being taken by season ticket holders. With lufc still struggling better facilities at rhinos could make a big difference to the goal of the sleeve and rob Oates to get more and more members.
If that happens they may be able to come up with a better solution to western terrace end, albeit given the issues noted on here by biff and others not sure what this could be. Perhaps the world's biggest plastic carport roof with a huge picture of sinfield holding up SL trophy on the inside wearing a big cheesy grin to entertain the away fans.

Yes correct I and many others miss our old ground(Knowsley Rd,)yes it was a heap in the end but atbmosphere,tradition,much nicer walk up on a sunny day.Alas modernity waits for no man welcome to world of sterile seating,no athmosphere at least you lot get to stay in the old dear albiet gutted out and re-plastic'd.appreciate what you got

The North Stand will have 3,825 seats, which is a reduction of 985. "This reduction in capacity of 985 from existing is partly due to the requirements of the TV gantry for Cricket and partly due to the modernisation of the seating facilities within the Rugby Stand (North) providing wider tiers and improved seating configuration to enhance comfort and viewing of the pitch for Rugby fans."

The plan for the Southstand the one that came out in the 90s or early century I'm sure it was a double tier like a larger version of the Carnegie

It wasn't that long ago the capacity of the South Stand was down to 6,000 anyway. So a reduction of a few hundred on that isn't exactly a disaster.
If it were being converted entirely to seating I could understand such concern. But just cutting the capacity a bit of a rarely full stand doesn't seem like an issue requiring a campaign group.

Saw this on another forum. Allows for 2 tiers both sides, with the top tiers overlapping one another in a sort of 45 degree angle T shape. Still includes the dual aspect corporate facilities. This would then eliminate the need for seating in the South Stand, so we could have a nice big terrace with plenty of atmosphere. Easy.

Of course. Just thought it was an interesting idea that others might like to see.

If the price of a seat can be levered upwards enough to make it worthwhile then I expect at some point it will be.

If you go to Leeds CC planning portal there will be records of previous planning applications.

It would only be a futile exercise if you knew beforehand that the Mercedes was out of your budget.

Now that YCCC are involved, I expect this to be fast tracked through.
How they got planning for that media stand is beyond me, but someone said that because it's cricket, a world wide middle/upper class sport they can have anything they want, League however is classed as a bit lower on the class scale, so that's why we got rejected for SS in previous years.
I would like to see a two tier SS with standing underneath to retain the atmosphere and seating above to cover North Stand losses. can't see it happening though.

While it is disappointing that the south stand will now incorporate seats i think the club really had no option but to include some seats to make up for the shortfall from the main stand. The seating areas are always very popular and do deliver increased revenue for the club. I imagine that the costs would have been too substantial to increase capacity in the main stand. For me the most important thing is the redevelopment goes ahead so i will be certainly supporting it in its current guise.

Leeds is unique in that it is a thriving northern city where RL is, in business quarters, seen as the top sport in the area. I work in a profession where hospitality is a big part of it &, if I chose, could be guaranteed a seat at virtually every home game. They don't come cheap & the money men expect that to be a comfortable seat with decent food & drink thrown in. Rhinos have that huge advantage over every other British SL team; it would be financial suicide to ignore it. I choose to pay to watch most games & to stand with my friends in the south stand rather than some vacuous suit. But I recognise that if we are to grow nationally & internationally it's the only way to go. I will definitely avail myself of a seat in the south stand occasionally.

All Yorksshire County Cricket do is hold a gun to leeds council head by saying we will lose test cricket status if they dont get planning permission , sick of hearing it , the media stand is awful , i agree

The only time Yorkshire have held the council to ransom is when they threatened to up sticks and move to Durkar. If anything, the balance has shifted the other way now. What are YCCC going to do if they don't get planning permission? Chuck in playing at Headingley having leveraged themselves to the eyeballs with loans to pay for the redevelopment? Hardly likely.

They use the additional income test cricket generates for the city as a positive in their planning applications, in the same way that the RL side use the chance to host internationals and Cup semi-finals as a positive in theirs..

Both sides of Headingley had become tired and in some cases unsafe and unsuitable for the 21st century. As one of the most used visitor attractions in the city, I'd be disappointed if the council weren't at least a little flexible in ensuring it was maintained to the highest possible standard and reflected well on Leeds as a whole.
