Hopefully all is well and he's back in his spot for the Cas game.

He was definitely there on Boxing Day . I gave him a bar of chocolate for Christmas .
I asked around yesterday , but nobody knew why he was absent .

He worked for Samuel Grant Packaging on Dewsbury Road for many years as a driver.I always enjoyed his visits to the printers I used to work at in Armley.He's as close to a Mr Leeds Rugby League as you can get for me!!

There's a photo of him in the main room of the Supporters Club ... Taken in the late 60s / early 70s and he hasn't changed a bit since then !

Thats absolutely correct, I used to sell programmes at the southstand turnstyles when I was a kid and John would always stand a few yards away selling whatever RL publication he was flogging at the time - that would be circa 1970-ish - he looked exactly the same as he does now, not a extra wrinkle, I bet he even weighs the same - uncanny.

always remember him shouting "Open Rugby £2 each or 2 for a fiver"

No Rhinos on the Road trip is complete without John speeding into car park E on his scooter & boarding each bus to sell "Big Issue, something to read on the journey now"!!

Pity not all of us have aged the same, although I still have the childish humour

Terrific club character. Was there at my first game and my last (Boxing Day) and the same for my Dad too.

Maybe he'll be at my childens (if i ever have kids) first match in the future.

As an apprentice at W S Maney in Harehills, i always used to look forward to John's deliveries each month, I always used to get a b0ll0cking for too much talking and not enough working whilst he was there.

But it was worth it, he is a right character, and matchdays at Headingley wouldn't be the same without seeing him

I spoke to John on Sunday night after the game, he just had something else on that was all. He seemed fine and no doubt will be there first home game of the season. If I see him before then i'll pass on all your regards.

He's not dead yet !

Shows your age by how much Open Rugby used to cost (70p when I first started getting it I think). John did two cool things for me when I was a kid - got me in to look round the training rooms and also got my team photo signed. Just saw me standing there with it and asked if I'd like it signed. I still have it somewhere.

He certainly did! Early to mid seventies. The cameras even picked him out displaying the Rugby Leaguer during a Leeds/Hull KR game when it was shown on Yorkshire Television on a Monday night. Then again, it wasnt that hard to pick anyone out in those days!
Always has a smile and a quip when he sells the programmes - I must admit that I didnt see him on Boxing Day and did wonder. As has previously been stated we will see him at the Cas game.
