| After the utter debacle at Elland Road this week with what seems like their 8000th badge (it's that bad, I'm sure it's a publicity stunt), it got me thinking about our club badge and what people would prefer. I know the majority are happy with the Rhinos name now, and the brand is strong, so I'm not asking about moving away from that (that discussion has been done), but I wonder what people would prefer....
Don't know how you o add pictures (someone might wanna do that for me?), but what would people's preference be?
1 - Stick with the current Rhinos badge
2 - Go back to the original hanging sheep crest with the owls
3 - Go back to the hanging sheep crest with the rugby balls instead of owls
4 - Something different
Personally, I'd love us to go back to the original crest. Has a real classy look about it, and links to the city, has meaning. It's traditional and evokes great memories for me personally, but I am conscious I'm becoming a bit of a dinosaur and one of the 'it was much better in my day' crew.
Thoughts?

| Bit of a no brainer keep the badge. This current badge is the one you have built a very very successful brand out of. The city crests these days are worn and only work if the brand has been unsuccessful. See Halifax from when they went from the Blue Sox badge to the city crest. Or if used for a one off heritage round.
Also you may end up with something worse (see Leeds United) and if I am being honest I think the old Warrington badge was better than their current version. Same with Saints.

| The new badge is associated with success, the old is associated with underachieving, so its a no brainer for me.

| Yes we have had success with the badge. But it doesn't stop it being a pretty tacky 90's design.
We can keep the rhinos, just bring the badge up to date.

Agree with that. Does look pretty 90's. Nothing radical just an updated version of what we have now. Wouldn't revert to and old style badge. Some may not be fans of the nicknames like Rhinos, Bulls, Giants etc. but we've made a success of it where others failed and helps considering when the name Leeds when it comes to sport people think United.

| Let's face it, it's terrible dated and desperately needs an update. You can modernise it without losing the association with our recent success.
Not sure the club see it as something that needs changing though.

| I do think the current badge is a bit dated.
I'd keep the Rhinos brand - the club has made it work - but I do think that an update wouldn't be the worst project the club could embark on in the next few years.

Possibly not but if they were to do it, the start of next season would be a good fit time wise with the Stadium redevelopments complete. I know lines like "end of an era" or new era can sound a bit cheesy but definitely could market it like that. A new era with the ground brought into the 21st century and a modern new look to go with it badge wise.

| The badge needs a refresher rather than a replacement but what’s wrong with having both the Rhinos badge and also the more traditional city crest both on the jersey (as I think they may have done on one or two of the testimonial / special issue jerseys)?
Two birds one toggy! Everyone happy.

| Ditch the sneezing rhino for me. With the exception of widnes's woeful triple t1t, it ranks alongside some of the worst examples in the league IMO.

Wigan's goes too old fashioned for me. Nothing wrong with traditional but should be able to have a modern take on it.
Coat of arms style badges are too old fashioned for the year 2018 and a game that's trying to spread itself further than the M62 corridor.

Agree.... Wigan have the best badge and generally kits in the league. I'm a big believer in sticking with tradition on badges and kit - they are iconic, and fans become emotionally attached to them.
An existing teams badge has no impact on expansion, if anything, at least fans in expansion areas may recognise them if they've been long standing.

Has plenty to do if you're trying to promote either the sport or club in modern times. A crest that looks like it's from 1988 instead of 2018 won't help you.

Tradition is important and should be a key part but it should be mixed keeping with modern times.
That Wigan badge will look good to older fans but how much will it do for younger or newer fans who don't have the same feeling towards coat of arms badges?
That why a good mixture between traditional and modernis the best way to go.

I agree with your first part, a healthy mix of tradtion and modern times would be ideal, but I don't think the club badge is something that needs to be 'modern' as that means you'll be forever updating it as what's modern now will be stale in 2 or 3 years. For me, the badge should be traditional and never change.
As for expansion, the expansion areas shouldn't be supporting existing teams anyway, so their badges should be irrelevant. And for new and younger fans, again I'd argue the badge of their chosen club should be low on the list of things we're relying on as a selling point - a traditional badge ties to the history and heritage of a club - it's part of their identity as a club as a whole - in addition to the spectacle, you want new fans buying in to the history and culture, that way they'll hopefully stick around long term. And for the existing fans, a traditional badge/kit is all part of the 'father to son' passing it down the generation experience. That's my view anyway....
