I am exactly the same as you. That is the perfect answer. It worked with Bluey, and he would repeat it.

You may be right and he can turn it around - I personally think the will still make the top four - just but I think and have thought for the long term development of the club a change is needed.
There are very few Alex Ferguson/Wayne Bennet's on this planet and 6 years at one club is a long time and maybe a cultural change is required.
What made this club great was youth development - that has definitely slowed since his arrival.
He doesn't have the Sinfield's and Peacock's to get him out of a hole and he has shown he hasn't learn't his lesson his army mentality only goes so far you have to have some skill too.

The way he carries himself is a credit - he is superb with the press win or lose and appears to have the respect of all the players he coaches.
He has had adversity and has been prepared to take a step back to move forward again - if ever there was a man who would enhance the Rhinos brand on and off the field he is it

| Are you seriously suggesting a 'culture' change is needed????
You want to change that culture that has seen us become the most successful team over more than a decade? A culture that has seen us time and again pick ourselves up off the mat when everyone is writing the team off to yet again take out the title. A culture that saw us take out a historic treble less than 6 months ago.... Jeez!!!!
Talk about needing/wanting a new coach is one thing, but talk of changing the culture of the club is ridiculous.

| SL doesn't currently appear to hold a great deal of attraction to antipodean coaches who are aspirational. If you don't believe that, make out a list of the current 12 coaches of the SL clubs.
Brian McDermott or some other English SL Neville Nobody are the only options.

| For what BMD has done with this club, he should get the rest of the season to fix up the problems we have. There are many problems, but some are very easily fixed and let's face it, to win silverware in this country you don't have to set the world alight. The difference between where we are, and where we want to be in the league is not so great, and if he can swallow his pride a little (unlikely in my opinion but there you go) and pick a Front Row that will be able to dominate, then this will give the halves more time to play a more controlled game. At the moment, because we are constantly losing the battle upfront, everything else is rush or panic football and we don't have the players to pull it off anymore. We also need to be able to play what is in front of us (like Gale pointed out during the post match screen session), rather than rely on individual brilliance that is nigh on impossible when you have so little time and confidence.
The thing I see as most disappointing is the relative lack of a production line in the youth teams which forces us to go to sign average players from overseas (as it's cheaper than players from UK, and we all know Gary likes a bargain). One thing that should be fixed up right now is the junior set up. I don't expect 2 or 3 players every year (1 every year should be possible), but we should be focusing on which positions we need to replace either the under performers or those that will retire in the next year or two (JJB, Burrow, McGuire, etc.) and therefore what we need from our juniors. This is the biggest priority in my opinion and somewhere over the last years we've (understandably) been short.
If we are still struggling for form and results when we come to the split, that's when GH needs to decide if we go again with BMD next year (and how they will change things to give us a much better chance) or if he should make a change for 2017. In any case we should only make a change at any point if there is a better option available.
Any talk of sacking the coach is very premature, but we do need to have a clear path forwards to get out of this (self made) hole and how we avoid it again.

| Good luck with those junior production lines.
Just make sure all those players are the finished product by the age of 19, otherwise it's to the knackers yard for them OR a shelf-stacking job at Morrisons next door to that World Class University of Sports Science and Gymnasiums that the club are missing oh so much due to SPOTY, the Kiwis and the November floods.
Reserve Grades by plenty! (Oh, they no longer exist in Super Dooper League, do they?)

The culture hung around a small group of players dominated by two of them - neither of which are still with the club.
The ethos of basing the team on home grown players with a sprinkling of quality British and overseas players seems to have gone out of the window as somebody has pointed out Leeds could field a whole pack of overseas players.
This is not the club it was when the likes of Sinfield McGuire Burrow JJB first emerged its a much bigger beast - it needs to evolve to the next level if it is to remain at the forefront of the RL in this country for another extended period

Did he say that? Or have you just made that up as a vendetta? Pretty sure it was another poster.

| Overseas players 2016 = 7
Overseas players 2004 = 7
IIRC we have 14 homegrown players in our squad this year
We played 10 homegrown players in the 2004 Grand Final.
If our full squad was fit our first 17 would include at least 8 homegrown players.
I don't see what the big deal is.

I have no issues with McDermott - I just think all good things come to an end. Whilst we have won a heap of trophies I think the club on a playing side should be in a better position than it is. In that respect he reminds me of Noble and his legacy at Bradford.
Having a team half full of overseas players is not what the recent success of this great club was built on. It simply isn't sustainable. McDermott appears to have little interest in the structures below the first team and that cannot be good for the long term.

Because 3 of those homegrown players played in the 2004 final - so it suggests we have only developed 5 players of real quality since 2004. That is what the big deal is

But it comes back to the old lack of opportunities doesn't it? how can a mass of young kids have had a decent gateway to the first team when it is already chock full of internationals in their prime? that has been the major issue since 2003/4
And i know you will come back with the fact that we have signed a few average overseas players in recent times that have blocked the pathway through but you also have to take into account the club is still ambitious, it wants to compete for silverware right now still, it's a balancing act.McDermott wouldn't last two minutes if he was filling the team with half the academy, look at the melt down right now after a few wayward results early in a season after winning the lot!

The ethos hasnt changed, circumstances have though. Top quality talent isnt available in the way it was, also its harder for a youngster to come in and hold a place when the incumbent player has been key in your recent successful seasons

not yet you haven't yed as no trophies have been handed out this season, you're just fortunate that 7 games into the season that we are struggling at the moment.
even if we don't win anything in this transitional season for our club, i hardly think that we will be turning into a side in decline like the bulls,
although admittedly we will be mediocre by our own very high standards if we don't win anything, but will still be the envy of most
since your post in 2011 we have lost 2 challenge cup finals and also won 2 challenge cup finals
we have won 3 grand finals
won the league leaders shield
won 1 world club challenge and also lost 2 world club challenges
in 2015 we won the domestic treble
quite an impressive achievement wouldn't you say in a salary capped sport?
wolves on the other hand have completely bottled 2 grand finals
one against a lowly 5th placed side and the other after holding a 14 point lead against wigan before eventually losing by 14 points
won 1 challenge cup final when you stuffed us
won 1 league leaders shield
finished as a mid table mediocre side in 2015 and were 8 points off the play off semi finals
i have loved the light hearted banter over the years though yed and i hope it carries on

I think the melt down is as much about the manner of the defeats as it is about the results. Perhaps if the youth development program had been better he would not need to sign the likes of Garbutt, Delanney, Falloon and Galloway? We have signed these players because we don't have the quality coming through and I agree the club needs to remain competitive.
