The only time you would select a back of that nature on the bench is ala graham murray with st hilaire/harris, when you can move the existing 1 up into standoff.

Otherwise you stick to engine room players. A utility hooker/half back or the standard 4 forwards.

I can't say I read or watch much of Mcdermott's aftermatch interviews but is no one pulling him up and asking for an explanation on these unused subs?

JJB apparently tore his bicep in the 15th minute. That's the point where BJB should have come on to centre and Ward switched to the pack. Instead we let an injured player stay on. BM bigging him up post-match for his toughness and heart. That's not in question, but the wisdom is.

What part of Clarkson was 18th man is hard to understand? Achurch withdrawing meant Clarkson in for him, not BJB.

BJB is one heck of a player to leave out of the 17 when he can play centre and Ward can play back row forward. Good entertaining game though.

It's beyond ing belief. Hardaker is a good left centre. Maybe he's not World Class, but he is very good. And BJB is a very good fullback. Do we play two very good players in positions where they're very good?

No, we pick someone who got dicked on as a centre by LONDON and leave BJB out entirely.

Atrocious tactics from McDermott. If he doesn't sort his tactics out (i.e. by inserting some COMMON FUCKING SENSE) we'll win as many trophies this year as we did last.

Calm down. We lost because on the night our opponents were outstanding - thats sport. What didn't help our cause were mistakes from Watkins, JJB, Ablett and Hardaker and a generally poor kicking game. These were were nothing to do with tactics of the coach and neither was the Saints superb scrambling defence which kept us down to one try.

So JC selecting a 17 man squad losing 1of those to injury and keeping him on longer then not utilising the full bench is again no fault of the Coach?

And how long did Singleton get out there, all of about 10 minutes was it?

After the Huddersfield game where Leeds were fortunate to get even a point the coach wouldn't be drawn on the thinking behind Achurch not getting on, will he be any more communicative this time as more points needlessly slip through the fingers against a massively understrength St Helens team.

That said Leeds still had enough ball to win two games but aside from Burrow's one man darts from acting half created little. St Helens defended very well but Leeds continually ran at the defenders rather than at the gaps.

You won't be drawn on how the 2013 season was incomplete.

Sorry but Saints did not defend brilliantly, they defended with heart. Just because we scored only one try does not necessarily mean they defended brilliant. Look at the stats for Leeds and compare to other games.

A team defending well. The opposition do not make that much yardage, do not have that much territory against them. We were clueless with the ball and easy to defend when the space ahead ran out. That was why we only scored one try.

And just to back this up further, Saints missed 33 tackles in that Mach. We lost because our attack was very poor, not Saints defence very good.

Got to agree, McDermott got it wrong big time last night.
