| I see that we are not gonna be on TV this week, which is a shame given I cant make the game, but understandable given we have not been playing well.
What is not understandable is that we have been pushed out for Batley vs Catalan!
Probably the least interesting tie of the whole lot.
Sky just lining the pockets of their old mate John Kear?
Getting pretty sick of the coverage RL gets atm

| Aye, its the second best tie of the round for me after Saints v Hull but nowt you can do. Would be surprised if the Batley/Catalans match isn't a procession, but obviously SKY see a potential upset.

| I think had the same exact fixture between us & Hudds at their ground not been on Sky the week before they might've gone for ours regardless of form.
Batley vs Catalans, 9 times out of 10 a 60 point hammering but if Catalans see it as a chance to rest several and get complacent then it could be a great call to have put it on Sky. Think Fev a few years back best Cas and then gave Wigan a scare in televised cup games.

Quite right, i hope they can pull off the shock
Should put a few more on the gate at Huddersfield too.

Well what would get more 'neutrals' watching, or just people who only watch RL occasionally?
A french team and a team they have never heard of, or 2 of the top 4 last year?
Rugby league coverage is already falling, boots n all has stopped, backchat moved off sky, fulltime down to half an hour and repeats of games down from nearly the full game to about 15 mins.
The only reason Sky would drop all these is because viewership is decreasing, and I can tell you now that I wont be watching batley get beaten by a catalan team in 3rd gear.
Maybe they will at least get more viewers on french tv...

| Sky have dropped all those Sh-te shows cos they're paying astronomical amounts to show PL football.

| Broadcasters will always look for the Cup upset if they can find it, with all sports.
Same reason Bradford City's League Cup game against Arsenal the other year was selected for TV. Same reason the Sky cameras were at Featherstone for Fev-Cas a few years ago.
The underdog narrative is a big one for broadcasters, and much easier to use to create interest than the same two teams from SL playing each other again. Of the Championship v SL ties in this round, then this looks to be the one likely to be closest so it was the obvious choice to televise IMO. Kudos to Sky for sticking with giving the Championship some exposure by featuring sides from it in both their games so far.

| If our game hadn't clashed with the Batley one, I'd have gone to Mount Pleasant. It's a fun place to watch a game. You never know how the slope will affect things.

It'll be interesting to see Dave Taylor going down the slope, don't think there's a Batley player that could stop him!

Me too.
Although I am aware of a few "former" and "current" Leeds "fans" who have chosen Mount Pleasant this Friday.

We haven't lost a non-televised CC game for quite a long time. I think I know when it is but I'll leave others to try and work it out.

The Cas game was televised. I seem to remember being in some crappy club bar after playing Saturday afternoon watching us lose.

probably right.
In that case i would say Bradford in probably 91 or if not the prelim round of 89 when they bundled us out. I remember being at the early defeat to Saints in 92 i think, and that was definitely a TV game. After that we have an excellent record of reaching at least the Semis or beyond which are always TV games.

| The 1998 defeat at home to Castleford was definitely televised, it was Graham Murray's debut as Leeds coach and IIRC he started and ended with televised home defeats to Cas.
Like this question. Leeds have a great record of reaching minimum of CC-SF which ensures the TV cameras.

| Correct, picture the scene - Leeds leading 12-9, 80 minutes up on the clock, Cas on the attack going nowhere much, Adrian Vowles from dummy half launches a bomb left to right, three Leeds players with a chance to jump, catch, knock it dead anything really all outjumped by Cas second rower Andrew Schick to score the winner - with no doubt Ray French declaring "it's there" or something similar.
The only disappointment was the result though - it was a totally committed, aggressive show the shape of things to come under a fantastic coach.

8th Feb '92 Leeds 12 - 32 St Helens (Bobbie Goulding two drop goals for Leeds) - glad you've illiminated that game as this was my first possibility but would have had to search further and don't really have the time at present - can't remember the game without reference to scrapbooks.
24th Feb '91 Bradford 5 - 0 Leeds - As above really despite the great Eddie Rombo playing.
If not it's got to be the preliminary round (14th Jan '90 Leeds 8 - 24 Bradford) - I think you've nailed this one, congrats.

That's what I reckon is the right answer 1991 (checking on the Radio Tines archive website, they only televised the Saturday game the day before)

I think that's about where I started watching, knew Vowles was involved somehow. Why can I remember that and absolutely nothing about the game I actually played in? Don't think I was concussed.
Ray French would surely have said - "He's going for that line" or "He's over that line".
