| Looks like JJB could have a lengthy lay off now as well.
Is the current injury crisis the result of our top players being flogged over the last few years?
No other club will have played more games, what with the WCC and CC finals and playing from 5th in the playoffs. We don't really rest and rotate players, some of them have played internationals as well as some of them getting on in age.
Just seems as if it's all catching up.

Of course them been flogged as played a part. Not necessarily last few years, definitely last two.
Wear and tear on the body leaves you more vulnerable to all types of injuries.
JJB getting injured today isn't really a surprise considering his game time, and playing three times in last week. Just as it wasn't last week with Sinfield after playing for last three years continuously.

| So Kevin Sinfield's broken and dislocated thumb was a result of his playing workload?
Go on, explain to me how that works. If it was a groin niggle, or a piece of floating bone that needed taking out of a joint then fair enough, but a broken thumb that could have happened at any time in any game over those three years?
Dr Gotcha strikes again.

Which Leeds players have been flogged during the regular season during the last two years?
Answer? None.
They finished 5th on both occasions and that takes some relaxation in a SL so lacking in genuine competition.

| The bottom line is, the current crisis could be a blessing in disguise.
We risk with the current Golden Generation (and just like Leeds United a generation ago) letting all the great players get old at once and without having a usable replacement is fatal for the long term success of the team.
Finally, it has forced BMD's hand to have to play a few of the kids that otherwise should have been in the squad and played in games like Castleford, Widnes and London over the last couple of years.
Sutcliffe seems to be getting better week on week and there might even come a point where a now-fit established player might not get back in the team after their place was taken by a youngster.
They may well take a flogging at the hands of some teams at the moment and yes, we might not do anything this season, but we'll certainly benefit in our ability to bounce back and maintain a challenge in the years to come

| Things like breaks can't be avoided imo what has been a concern for a while imo is the number of minutes JP ,JJb and Delaney have been asked to play when clearly blowing or carrying knocks/strains.
I see no point for JP ,Jjb and Delaney for e.g to remain on the field when a game is clearly won or lost nor what we gain by not ustilising all our subs or the squad when certain games are less important and obvioulsy against teams that lack quality.
Of course the GF wins and CC final appearances don't lie but long term i fail to see what we gain when we appear to be running players into the ground when we have so many promising youngsters available and by that i don't mean throwing 6/7 in at once against Wigan away either.
the only positive out of the current injury blip we've hit is the gametime and experience the youngsters get although taking Baldwinson off after 4 minutes when we'd already lost Jjb earlier in the 1st half was again bizzare today.

Why bring the Sinfield injury into it at all then if you weren't using it to back up your opinion?

| Admiral - agree with playing kids a bit more in some other games. BM has alluded to it too, saying it actually doesn't help kids that much getting thrown into a game en masse. That makes it harder to understand him not giving some of these lads the odd game earlier. That's not to say they should be played in every match, but selectively used, and when picked on the bench given a run.
I still don't quite get BM's use of subs during games either. If you pick a player on the bench you ought to do so because if needs be they can play 80 minutes. Far too often we effectively play a 16-man or even 15-man game. Flogging Peacock when we're 30 points up or down with ten to go doesn't make any sense at all.

| I have read JJB will most likely be out for 5 weeks,to be confirmed today. If that is the case we will probably get the majority of our injured players back at the same time at the begining of August. That gives us about a month to prepare for the play offs by which time hopefully Watkins will be back leaving just Mcguire on the long term list.
Its not all doom and gloom, we could still be in a very good position to go for OT again.

| Don't shoot the messenger if it ain't so but that came out during the after-match press conference yesterday - as shown on the SKY SL Fulltime prog. At first it sounded like Carl Watkins but on review I managed to hear it as Kal or Cal so presume it's one of those.

I loved B McD describing Andy Barker as the prince of darkness and he now dreads him coming into his office with yet more bad news. Nice bit of humour in the after-match press conference.

Of course I obviously didn't manage to dumb it down enough, as you appear to have missed the important "fatigued" bit, and somehow come up with an idea that I was comparing injuries in some way.

No, I think I got the "fatigued" bit.
You're saying that because Sinfield's body in general was fatigued, that's why he broke his thumb.
You might have a reasonable point about resting players to prevent injury and I wouldn't disagree with that, over-training and over-use can lead to apparently unrelated injuries, as I found out for myself when I used to run a lot.
But Sinfield's thumb ?
Give over.

You're obviously not getting his point here.
Just to make it real simple - if you knacked you're more likely to break your thumb because... because... well you just are OK?

No I didn't. I said that that if a player is fatigued he is more likely to pick up injuries. I mentioned nothing about what type of injury.
Could a fully fit fresh player with no fatigue avoid the injury Sinfield received? yes he could. That doesn't mean that he definitely wouldn't have had it, it means that the injury would be more likely to happen as he was so fatigued.
His body couldn't possibly be in the same condition as what it would have been had he had rests in that previous three year period.
I take it you agree with the point, taking Sinfield out of it then?
