I have just seen on the text that James ROBY is putting his name out there to move to the NRL as is James Graham. Yes its good internationally but would more players leaving for the NRL reduce the quality of super League. Do we think this is a good thing for SL?

No but there are some slight differences. They dont tend to lose there best players to SL usually come towards end of there career or not geting regulary into teams in NRL, And they do have a lot more depth as it is one of their major sports.

It would be a massive let down for super league, and personally I hope it doesn't happen. It would be a great pick up for the international team from an individual perspective, although unless every player who plays for the country is in the NRL then it would still be a pointless exercise, as the players they would play with the International team (who were not NRL) would probaly reduce in quality.

I know it does and i agree, but I personally dont mind some players going but I would hate to see a large exedus of our players to the NRL as I think it could have a effect on the standard of games that i watch week in week out!

The problem with it if it was those two individuals who have been mentioned, is that they don't really have much of a problem competing with the Aussies anyway. It would just mean that England's pack would have Ellis, Burgess, Roby & Graham all from the NRL, which wouldn't really improve our international game that much in all seriousness. Our pack is pretty decent now. Ok, it would move beyond "Pretty Decent" to awesome, but still, it's our backs that need seriously improving and none of those will be moving to the NRL because they're not good enough.

It's a Catch 22 situation really. The players that would substantially improve with a season down under are the ones that aren't good enough to attract the move in the first place.

They only want the players that are already doing a half decent job of compete with them. Thus, no great improvement to the England side if you think about it that way.

Players going over to the NRL would not be a short term thing though, players would learn over there (if the players move on to coaching would use things they have learned over there). Imagine if one of our half backs went over and imagine the player we would have then

Yes probably but in a strange way i would miss seeing graham, And his sulking against leeds!

And you miss the bigger picture Loz. Yeah sure, send that half back over there who is great for our competition. What we get is one half back who debatably would improve, but as the competition dumbs down because of the loss of better players, the other half back would go down in quality. Therefore you would still have a zero effect on our international team.

Unless the whole of the England side is playing in the NRL then IMO it is a pointless excersise. Remarkable Rhinos got it spot on above, that the players that the NRL want are all ready at an high quality. What we want is for our kids of 16-18 to spend seasons with the NRL clubs, not lose our best players to another competition.

Spot on. I know it completely different sport, however in Swimming we were getting thrashed by other nations, Youngsters 16-20 are not sent down under based at off shore centres then come back improved. that happend approx 5 years ago and now the benifits are being reaped.

Certainly not. Sending a handful of players over will improve a handful of players.
The effort needs to be in improving the whole game over here, particularly at junior levels.

Maybe sending Potential Young British coaches other there might be the answer?

Why not, instead, find what it is the Australian coaches do or who they learn from, and bring that over here?

Besides, it's probably the Kiwis that we should be looking at - with one full time pro club and a significantly smaller population than Australia, they manage to generate players that can beat them.

although a Super League club hired a NZ coach who towards the end of his tenure was rumored to have lost the dressing room due to his coaching...

I think a large problem is also Football in this country, And also RU. Both pay more money and are bigger sports with more media exposure etc... There will be thousands of potentially good League players playing these sports, and that is probably why we struggle with the depth of quality.
