| Obviously we are a little biased in thinking Rangi should get the award but i definitely think he deserved it instead of Tomkins.
If you look back at previous winners like Sculthorpe, Farrell, Vowles, Peacock etc they were all warriors who played the game hard and fair which for me is what the award is about.
I know Chase is a half-back but for me he demonstrates those qualities more than most in Super League - wouldn't have argued with Roby winning but others i've liked this season are Michael Monaghan, Thomas Leuluai & Danny Buderus.
I know in the last couple of years players like Richards and Hodgson have won it (not sure when the players started voting for it) but this is where the award fails a bit now for me as it's more of a best player of the year award, which seems to be going more towards flashy backs than the real hard men of the sport of previous years

Its even beyond sour grapes, there's a lynch mob on its way to Cas as we speak,it just shows Wigan supporters up for what they are, arrogant, petulant and ignorant to name a few,Rangi is MAN OF STEEL 2011,deal with it.

| Congratulations to Rangi, great achievement
As for the Wigan fans....well if they feel brave enough then maybe should ask some players as to why Tomkins didn't win?
I am guessing they will say what we see...a talented but arrogant and sneaky rugby league player!

I don't really get what MoS is any more - the shortlist seems to be just a 'player of the year' rather than being based on the original concept of toughness and, well, steel; if it were, Roby would be a dead cert.
Given that it is what it is however, Chase is worthy winner over Tomkins and I agree with the poster above; by voting this way, players have said what many supporters have been saying for a couple of seasons now - Tomkins is a great player, but his niggly, cheating Wigan way makes him unpalatable and unpopular.
Congratulations to Rangi Chase - it's good to see MoS go to a young English player...

| I honestly think the only thing that separated Tompkins and Chase was the Wembley episode, What would it look like if the RFL game him the MOS after he cant even control himself on national TV

The RFL doesn't give anyone Man of Steel - it's the players who do. (apparently this year's voting was the tightest ever, fwiw)

| Genuinely pleased for the player, cas and the game in general.
Would have been gutted if Tomkins had won, as i dont think he plays the game in the right spirit.
I have concerns over his involvement in the England squad, and perhaps this award may make him more coveted by the big clubs (not forgetting contracts and UK border agency)
Finishing on a positive, i think its good for the game when a player from a club that finished out of the top eight can still get the recognition rather than players from the usual top few teams gaining all the plaudits.
Well done Rangi!
