| Quote ="casman2"Some of our fans are completely clueless, stood with my dad today which i probably wont be doing again after some of the most ridiculous comments i have ever heard from some people.
One guy was complaining how we "got rid" of Dorn and swapped him for Widders
Another comment was that we should sack Matterson because he's had 3 years and done nothing
He also seemed to think we had a divine right to beat Quins today, i tried (and failed) to explain that we have no right to win any game and that wins have to be earnt. He was more interested in the fact that we would "lose a thousand fans" just because we lost one game
I personally cannot remember the last time we won our opening Super League match.
Neither team deserved to win today imo, thought a draw would have been a fair result. We played well in spells and made a few good yards and put in an average attacking display. Defense was quite good but very lazy at times
Imho Quins were average and as has been said, the game was won and lost around half time, i wouldn't say we were worse nor better than them today.....however if we are to be serious contenders for top 8 (something which i think may be a little too much for us this season) then we need to step up, Quins/Salford/Huddersfield etc etc are teams which we should be looking to beat.'"
Think you're underestimating them mate, I reckon they'll be the surprise package and pushing for the top 4. Great win away at Les Cats, its a very hard place to get a win and they crushed them.

Possibly so, however, based on previous years (obviously i haven't seen them this year, other than our friendly in which they weren't that impressive) to be in the play offs those are the teams, along with Wakey, HKR etc that we need to be beating

Think your right mate. Hudds could be a tough bunch this season. I think a lot of teams have recruited well enough to be better teams than 2008 and closing the gap on the top two although still a way off but we are all getting closer.
First game of the season is always a bit of a lottery so its disappointing to hear that Cas fans are booing their team. Quins are usually slow starters and always have to play 'catch up' so this win is a real bonus and moral booster, but if we'd lost and given 100% it would be OK and roll on next week. One game proves nothing folks

Tbh i think it was between Goldy and Hudson today, though i agree, Goldy should of got it. He had a very good game at FB and seems to have conquered his fear of the high ball, fantastic catch when he had to hit the post

Totally agree with you, booing on the opening game is a massive over reaction, even more so at Cas who had 10 debutants on show today, i'm sure it will have been a minority though. Cas's downfall this season I feel will be their recruitment, not that they have recruited badly, far from it but for me they have recruited too heavily and brought in too many new faces and it will take time for them to gel. Towards the back end of last season Cas were showing signs that they could compete in super league and had some great wins but they've got to start from virtually scratch again rather than having to build on last seasons end with a steady influx of fresh blood.

I agree
IMO all we needed was a couple of new faces to bring us up to scratch rather than a near full new squad. Today was a disappointment, i expected us to look a much fitter and more well prepared team with 4 friendlies under out belts and Quins with none i thought we would lead out stronger, it didn't work out today which left a lot of fans disappointed, however that is still no excuse for the booing at full time

| I'm trying to think of the last time we beat Quins at home. It seems to be a bogey game for us.
It was two teams struggling in attack. I don't think the conditions helped, it really seemed to bog everything down and as has been mentioned the lack of time playing together was also a factor.

All we need is someone who can kick goals. I don't expect someone to kick everyone but we need a kicker who has a chance of getting between the posts. Not once did I have confidence that Dixon was going to kick either of the attempts he had!!
Also what thehell were we doing passing a ball within our own 20 with around 10 seconds on the clock, it should have been up the jumper one man rugby at that point!!

| Today was a good platform for what we need to work on for the rest of the season.
Yes it was a shame we lost because we could have snatched the game right at the end, but at the end of the day we were lacking just a few ideas in attack. I believe Quins deserved to win the game as there defence was superb.
I can take a lot of positives from the game, our forward's ran the ball in well, and our outside backs looked dangerous in attack everytime they got the ball, which to be fair they didnt get enough of. I thought our defence was pretty good as well, and if we learn to cut silly mistakes & fine tune a bit of positional play (Goldy needs to work at been a fullback) we will come good sooner rather than later.
One massive point for me today the fact that we lacked direction in attack, Chase is a good player (and will be more free to play his natural game, when hes back at 6) and ive been impressed so far but the lad hasnt got much of a kicking game and needs to time his passes a little better, BUT this is SHERWIN comes in. One of the best kicking games in SL and can organise a team just as good deacon does with the Bulls. When he come's back we will be very dangerous in the opposition's half.
Remember people [iwe are a team in the making[/i and im looking forward to next 3 season's as weve got a great base to build on!
On a sad note, the Boo boys at the end, get a grip or dont bother comin darn't lane!!

| That was the worst game of RL I've ever seen.
We're capable of playing some classy stuff and have had an expansive game plan in each of our friendlies. Today we allowed ourselves to get dragged into a wrestling match and as a result, struggled to take control of the game. Harlequins play a crap brand of RL, but I guess if it works for them occasionally, why change it?
I have to mention Stuart Jones though - his work rate is unbelievable, he was my man of the match today.

| Enjoyed my trip to Castleford as usual and didn't have any trouble at all apart from the junior massive on the terrace giving it the big one
Tough game for both sides, I think we shaded it though, looking forward to the return.

Getting sucked in, basically. This is backed up by the fact that our better results last season came against Leeds, Saints and Warrington. We're incapable of rising above it when other teams slow the game down.

WTF? Harlequins played to the conditions yesterday and IF Castleford had taken the chances that were on offer, you would have won. But Cas didn't take their chances, so Harlequins won, simple as that.
As for us playing a crap brand of RL...I would take the 2 points over style any day
