We have bemoaned the lack of consistency in grading and sanctions from the RFL this season and (much as criticising one of our own doesn't seem right) this again is a rank mis-judgment.

The 'tackle' and contact on Obst was deliberate, calculated and targetted at the head, so for that to be a Cat B offence and 2 matches is stupid. I don't mind McGoldrick, I would love to have half the talent he does - but it had nothing to do with Rugby League, it was pointless and cheap and what protection does it offer kickers if this is only 2 games.

I would suggest if that 'tackle' had been made on Rangi Chase by a Hull player, we would be highly upset by the sanction and our coach would have somethig to say about it.

My thoughts exactly - the glib responses of some people on this thread are rather distasteful, given the severity of McGoldrick's attack on Obst.

Once again, with this and the Hock decision, the RFL have shown a total disregard for player welfare.

Here we go again, everbody jumping on the 'I hate Goldy' bandwagon - its wonder the wheels can stand the weight.

Love him or loathe him the + & -'s are clearly as follows;

Negatives.

1) Hot headed temprement that often leads to needless penalties, sin binnings, sending off's and bans.
2) One on one tackles, and tackling technique in general is often poor.
3) Ability at fielding high kicks is at best mediocre.
4) Has made some needlessly controversial comments in the press, that may or may not have lowered the clubs reputation somewhat.

Positives.

1) Has the ability to create tries for himself and others, especially with the short pass, second only to Rangi in this department.
2) Has extremely good pace, and the ability to beat a defending opponent with footwork.
3) Can be utilised in a number of positions throughout the back line, including 6 & 7 where we have little or no cover.
4) Is not afraid to mix it with teams, if we are being bullied.
5) Has shown loyalty to the club, not leaving when relegated, and working through bad patches of form to regain his place in the team.
6) Does lots of work in the community, especially with junior sides.

So there you have it, yes the guy has his bad points, but also many good ones. Personally I think he has been one of our best attacking players of the season, and yes lately his form has dipped, but if you look at our results and think about our last few performances then he's far from on his own on that one.

I would not some up Goldys effectiveness based on the last few matchs, but rather whats he's done all year, good and bad.

Finally if your idea of good rugby player is only players who play fair, and no one with a darker side on the pitch, then you're ruling out a lot of quality players both past and present.

Just a thought though, suppose it would be easier to say - yeh you're a disgrace Goldy go home, and not have to bother thinking for myself!

Sorry Westyorkylad - however you are seeing a different player in Goldie compared to what 99% of the RL pulblic see. Personally I find it hard to imagine that the 99% are wrong!

See item 2 on negatives, think that will explain the incident you're talking about.

By 99% you mean yourself and the half a dozen or so other posters who've joined in with you on this thread, now Im not a statistition, but I doubt if you can round that up to 99% of Cas fans with any reliability.

However this is merely my opinion and is there to be shot down/commented on/agreed with as you see fit.

For what its worth I enjoy reading your posts but generaly find it hard to agree with any of them, I thinks its the old half full, half empty scenario ............................ still variety is they say, the spice of life!

To get the stats, run a simple poll on here and without swaying bias just ask.....'based on his lst 3 or 4 years performances should we give Goldie another contract, have we had good value for money from him?...'Yes or No?'....see what response you get!

I work outside the W Yorks area, and am constantly being told by neutrels, with no axe to grind against Cas or Goldie....that he's a constant liability and they wouldn't pay him in washers.



In my previous posts on here I have come out with some beauties which are just a little bit too direct and factual for many to handle. Usually they are critised, and usually in proven to be right.

My favourite was a post I put about the numbers just simply not adding up at either Quins or Crusaders

. I was shot down in flames by all those saying how well the game was spreading in these areas, and that I knew nothing etc etc....with the classic 'decoy' line ....'Local game for local people'.........Did you agree with that post at the time, by any chance?

Sadly on here there are very few, who after expressing an outright contrary opinion who return later and say....'sorry mate, I didn't believe you at the time but it looks like you were bang on the money!'

I seem to remember his form being horrendous in 2008 & 9 with a complete loss of confidence. The whole crowd would gasp as the ball went in his direction. Not knowing if he was going to drop it, or panic pass it in our own deadball area or 'clothes line' the oncoming player!

It wouldn't surprise me if he holds the club record at Cas for the most red cards, sin binnings, and disciplinary cases during the SL era. Co-incidence??? Unlucky ??? Victimised??? Or as many prior posts have pointed out does he often find himself outplayed...outpaced and resort to being a 'dirty b*std'?

I just can't see a player with all this supposed pace, and skill, needing to behave the way he does on the pitch? At times he is just a proper idiot and liability.
