| Ha ha tigerman1+1, you are so perceptive!
I have to say personally that I wouldn't like the life of a politician, in the public spotlight all the time and hardly any private life and of course being to blame for all the ills of the country.
If you do feel you could do a better job Tigerman 1+1, then you really should put yourself forward, I'm sure whatever political party you feel akin to, would welcome you as a potential candidate.
I personally think they Yvette Cooper and Ed Balls are good MP's and that they've worked well within the rules operating at the time (although maybe rules should be looked at again), but when you consider that people in business can earn hundreds of time what an MP earns, then maybe something needs to be done on the earnings front, as we do need the best people possible running our country and we are in danger of scaring off any talented MP's in the future.
There's no doubt there are corrupt MP's around, as has been exposed by the press recently, but I don't for one minute believe Yvette Cooper or Ed Balls are amongst them. I have every confidence in their abilities and that they will do all in their powers to ensure we get our new stadium.

Fiddled expenses - CHECK!
Lied about Iraq - CHECK!
I won't deny either of those, or a whole raft of other charges you might want to lay at the feet of our political classes. My question would simply be: "And..?"
They're ALL are at it. They ALL lie to us. They've been lining their pockets and setting up post-career 'consultancies' since Westminster first opened its doors to them. 'Honourable' Members of the House have been bent as nine-bob notes for centuries and the most shocking thing about the expenses scandal is that the general public are actually naive enough to be shocked by it. So unless you're making a rallying call for a brand new communist revolution ..(I'd like to drive a really big tank please).. I just can't see what your beef is. It's like having a go at a dung beetle for rolling sh*t around. It's just what they do.
Bottom line is that, as politicians go, YC is by no means the worst. She at least expresses an interest in the constituency she represents.

it really is a nice little earner as for looking after their futures because they are hard done to many people would do twice what they do for thier yearly earnings. and id say they could retire now on their lifelong pension if it wasnt for the power drug and all the corruption that power breeds. but you must be very green to the political process from lowly counciller to labour MP to believe its as easy as you say to overthrow politico power like that.....especially in a area where blind voting is a way of life.

My god you're unbelievable. As i say, why not make a point of discussing things I (or anyone else) has said rather than what you want to blabber on about. You're a joke mate. You can't debate you just blabber on about things no one has said and call them names for doing so. Then you expect someone to come on and have a debate back. TB The people will vote for her beause she is the labour party candidate, but she was an imposed candidate by the party, due to the fact they said there had to be a certain number of women in parliament. Im not against women in parliament and im sure as hell nothing but labour, my point was that i feel that a person from the constituency should be from that area, nothing to do with democracy.

The local Labour Party at the time, as was their right, elected a candidate to succeed Geoffery Lofthouse, who had decided to retire & accept a peerage to enter the house of Lords.
This candiate was a local long standing Labour councillor who had represented his ward for many years on WMDC & I'm led to believe had the backing of Lord Lofthouse.
Unfortunately the local party decision was overuled by the Labour Party head office & Yvette Cooper was imposed on us because they wanted to ensure she would be elected & we are are a VERY safe Labour seat.
I as an ex-unioin official & member of the Labour Party consequently left the party & have never voted Labour since. I may be wasting my vote in this constituency in not voting Labour but at least I can cast my vote with a clear concience

| I've never actually voted Labour in this constituency in a general election because I lived in Selby at the last election in 2005. I've always been a red but I don't believe the current Labour government truly represent me and they've gone too far away from the policies which match their core voters. Whilst there are still a number of Labour MPs who uphold the old values, I don't believe ours does - she very rarely votes against the government which is often not in the interests of the people of this area.
The Iraq war's been mentioned too. Cooper supported it - one thing I do actually agree with her on. Why do I agree? Because I believe the government are elected to run the country and part of that involves protecting the country. It's inappropriate for the electorate to simply dismiss the war as being illegal when we're not privvy to all the facts and intelligence on which the government have acted. Granted, they could've handled it much better than they did at the time, but I still think they should be given the benefit of the doubt until a public enquiry suggests otherwise.

| These people are elected to represent their constituancies ... to be beyond reproach and act as our voice.
Cooper and the rest of the trough eating cronies ... have no interest in the lives of the people they are supposed to represent and the truth of the matter is that she along with the majority of elected polititians has been shown to have commited fraud against the very people they are supposed to represent.
The worst thing is that she and the majority of the rest have got away with it by apologising!!!!!!!!!!!!
Christ I wish I could run my business by using the 'it was a simple accounting error' line ............. but I doubt the Tax office would believe me as easily as the people stealing the money I pay in taxes to line their own pockets... these people are the worst kind of scum, stealing from the poor , sick and disadvantaged to line their own pockets....then having the gaul to look you in the eye and say they are here for you....

You're far too repetitive mate, a parrot could come up with more lines. You never ever read a post correctly and just assume your opinions from nothing. Go back and read my opinion (if you can find one) and then rattle on about it, i might debate with you then. But since you always wish to make things up to make yourself feel better i'll just laugh you off mate.

I am intrigued as to your political leanings. You mention your opposition to the Iraq war, but the people who pushed that war through were the Conservative party.

| Quote ="Bonzo"I've never actually voted Labour in this constituency in a general election because I lived in Selby at the last election in 2005.
Granted, they could've handled it much better than they did at the time, but I still think they should be given the benefit of the doubt until a public enquiry suggests otherwise.'"
Good post bonzo, echoes alot of my feeling about new labour. I was brought up as a red and would never ever vote tory but new labour has brought in so many policies i fundamentley disagree with i can no longer bring myself to vote for them (not that it matters, labour will always gain this seat) so i end up voting for a fringe party to show my disatisfaction with labour who are becoming very much a party that doesnt respect democracy. I wish smith could have survived to see power as i believe he would have made a far better job of running this country and had a great deal more integrity.
