It was an unfortunate event when Castleford was placed in the WMDC, I believe it should really have been the West Riding MDC or West Yorkshire MDC.
Look at Huddersfield, which has a population of 146234, yet it's under the control of Kirklees Council.

As far as size is concerned, Castleford (40,000) is easily the biggest of the 5 towns at and growing, with Pontefract (29,000), Normanton (20,000), Knottingley (16,000) and Featherstone (11,000).

Wakefield itself only has a population of around 76,000, which is why it needs Castleford and the other surrounding towns to give it any clout, otherwise it's just a very small city even when compared with York (137,000) and compared with Leeds (440,000) or Bradford (290,000), but I suppose it's bigger than that other very tiny city Ripon (16,500)

Not quite right there. WMDC is split into a number of wards (21) and as far as I am aware only 4 are used to calculate the population of Wakefield itself. WMDC has a population of 325,000 and is in the top ten of local authorities.

Castleford probably count the 3 wards of Castleford,Whitwood and Airedale to get to the 40,000.

The thing is that if you also add the other wards up that surround the 4 central wards in wakefield you would come to a much greater population figure. These wards are Horbury,Ossett,Walton,Stanley,Wrenthorpe and Wakefield rural.

Likewise with Cas you could add the ward of Knottingley.

Which is nowhere near Cas. You could add Knottingley to the ward of Pontefract North.

I've never really understood why Wakey fans try and use this method as a swipe at cas fans because if that was the case then I guess the fact that we get better attendances than you would be more embarrasing for you don't you think?

Looks very similar to the KC Stadium.

It's only a mock up i think, but it could look like that. I think it looks so much like the KC because when the Tigers fans were asked which new SL stadia they liked many opted for the KC, but we're hoping for a little standing room in it.

BTW, i'll merge this one with the other Saint Simon.

Here's some more of the same artists impressions. I agree it is similar to the KC but these shots at least prove it's not a carbon copy and will have it's own look. Well that's if we settle on this design of course.

Just a note of clarification, the images being posted date from some time ago and were provided as part of the various planning applications. The intention was just to give an idea of scale and impact of the buildings being proposed. As Richard Wright points out in today's [iPontefract & Castleford Express[/i article, the design phase is yet to commence. Therefore, whilst a design could be submitted that looks identical to the images posted, we could equally end up with something that looks very different.
