This would seem likely as the quota rules 'enforced' by the RFL are purely a gentlemans agreement, and unless stipulated in the contract given to martin, will mean that he should legally still recieve payment

because the RFL rules employ a quota system which includes EU nationalities, then they cannot be legally binding, as that would break several EU laws on the free movement on labour within the Union

Didn't Martin start his career with the London Broncos though, meaning he came through their academy and could technically be classed as non-federation? The only problem is that the duration of that was two years IIRC

Correct he is federation trained but still on the overseas quota, thats probably caused the slip up.

However it dosn't end with Martin there is another player involved who has also had his contract cancelled.

ALL clubs, and I mean ALL clubs, will have contracts signed and sealed and hidden in a drawer somewhere of players that they cannot announce - yet!

Officially we have not released Martin, although unoffically we are aware of what is going on and have no issue with it. This is not quite the same as with Snitch, who we will be upset to lose - but it happens.

I does seem odd sometimes that we have this 'circus', but it is the way the game works - unfortunately!

was mcgoldrick a kolpack player under the old system or full quota. That the bit thats causing the confusion. Old style kolpak players who were playing in SL before feb 07 become federation trained players when they sign their next contract ( either with their current club or with a new one) and no longer count on overseas quota. Old style full quota players will remain full quota irrespective of how long they've been over here. Original wording of RFL release about players coming off quota suggested it applied to both kolpak and quota players which has since been clarified.

McGolrick has always been an overseas player that counted on the quota and has never been listed as KOLPAK
