the simple answer is that we will never be able to compete for signings of quality players until we can spend up tp the salary cap limit.
Widnes have now joined the comp and they are able to spend upto the cap. So thats another team infront of us.
Widnes is a small rl town with a good history of success (albeit 20 years ago) and they have sufferd a recent period in the lower leagues due to religation. I cant see their crowds being much bigger than ours next year -So they are not too different to cas in many ways.
What makes them able to spend more on players then ?????

Cas keep saying our commercial dept is so super and bringing in record sponsorship - yet we cant compete in the player (or coach) signing market and have lost another kid due to poor contract offers.
Our crowds and season tickets sales are solid and improving , we had a good cup run- so why are cas so far adrift of clubs like , hudds , quinns , hull kr and now widnes ?? the only thing I can think of is that they generate better income via sponsorship , marketing and corporate initiatives.

Widnes can spend up to the cap, because their multi millionaire owner!

Versatile Australian Joel Moon and veteran Welsh prop forward Jordan James have both penned two-year deals with the Salford City Reds.
23-year-old Moon will arrive in time for the 2012 season having had spells with New Zealand Warriors and the Brisbane Broncos.
The utility player, who can provide cover at half-back, , second row or loose forward, featured for the Indigenous All Stars side in 2011.
The club have also announced the signing of much travelled prop forward Jordan James from Crusaders on a two-year deal.
The 31-year-old has had spells with Sheffield, Castleford, Swinton, Wigan, Crusaders and South Wales Scorpions as well as making 12 appearances for Wales at international level.

He was refused a visa a couple of years back to play in the UK, can't imagine that situation will have changed.

Not on our budgets. Don't forget, Leigh will probably get to championship final which means Millward will be coaching them into October. I don't have high hopes for recruitment for next season. There won't be anyone left the way Huddersfield are going! They will have a squad of 35 - 40. We will be lucky to have 25!

I would expect, difficult though this is to say that an earlier poster was right:

There will be things to say for next season, but we will want to get any possible negativity (is we lose on Sat'd, miss out on the play off's and a couple of people not bein retained) out of the way before we start drip feeding out other news.

I am led to understand there are a couple of things to announce, but we won't do that until the play-off situation is confirmed - no distractions and no focus anywhere but Saturday.

Then if we need a pick up next week with a bad result on Saturday - then news will probably start.

I think we will see some more players leave before our recruitment drive does begin, I would hazard a guess that Aspinwall and Fozzard will be departing.

Newspaper today suggests that Andy Lynch is wanting to leave Bradford for a fresh challenge. Granted it's Nosey Parker in the sun, but I heard this a few weeks back as he still lives in Cas I believe.

I reckon wigan will announce a big signing soon, a host of players leaving and no one brought in yet, and they say they have plenty of space on cap and quota, I just hope it isn't rangi.

I would like to see Lynchy back at Tigers. Sharing the captaincy with Danny Orr next year would be a good signing. I cannot see Bulls letting him go though.

How about Rangi Chase signing for Warrington, being loaned to Castleford for the 2012 season as part of the agreement and taking up the reins at Warrington in 2013 as a replacement for Lee Briers.............
