See your point but when we have to play it tough we need someone to take us round the park...when its dry and firm we will usually win but when a little heavy and wet i feel we need a kicking game with the current forwards that we have....unless that changes for next season.

We play lovely, winning rugby league, agreed, however i feel there's times when we need to put it up our jumpers and kick into the corners. Make the opposition run at us from further down the field and turn them round some more. The more tired they are the more the champagne rugby comes off.

If we are to win silver we need, at times to play "percentage" rugby league and make the opposition work hard to run the ball from near their own line in non threatening positions

Our kicking game is not good enough though come on, take the Gateshead game they put in some great kicks first half which killed us, we always seem to rush our kicks and lets be honest its not the best part of Penkys game, he does well occasionally but most are too close to the full back or wingers. Ben Black is a runner of the ball and he too only gets the odd good kick in. I am talking about the relieving pressure kicks like what we needed against Widnes in the NRC seme which we didn't do. Remember how we beat Widnes last season when Holly kept putting them back on their own line time after time.
Its the one area where we are missing Holly.
We do need a good stand off for next season imo

Think Mick Govin can do a job at stand off he's a class player and if he can avoid injury he'll only get better with more matches under his belt

Who are you taking out? If you want beswick, black, gleeson and penky in the team where the hell are you going to put a stand off??? You need forwards on the bench as they do the work load. Plus gleeson and penky would fill the other bench slot.

Maybe next year we might be able to fit one in if beswick moved to loose forward and shad was to return home but as the team stands now you'd have to drop one of the four main players!

i agree tho we need a recognised stand off, wat if "2 of the 4" got injured towards end of season, wed struggle..

adding a stand off to squad would give us cover and more competition for places...

would love to see A bowman given a chance, however with his lack of 1st rugby team and general inexperience at this level would be wary chucking him in there just yet?

I would expect young bowman to get more of a run out next year. I agree that our out of hand kicking is definitely not a strength of this team, especially when under pressure and holroyds play was key last year at times. However it has to be right for the team. I'm sure MC and MH have it all in hand.

Watch the Tries of the season DVD & look at how many of the tries come from Holroyd, either been a key man in the build up play, or from a well placed Kick, We certainly miss the kicking game, but are able to score more tries from running the ball and throwing it around. With a precision kicker in the side we'd be scoring more I'm sure.

I see where freddies wig is coming from. We played 2 hookers at half back last Friday. We could do with a steadying general at half back ... yestin harris would complement out squad perfectly, then we would REALLY be the best team by a country mile. Then we can have gleeson / penky alternating at their rightful hooking postion, Danger Man Bob at loose, get a mental strong running second rower. We're fine at props if Matt James stays, I like Wilson, Tangart and Frank, indeed .... for the first time in years .... I cannot honestly say there's a bad apple in this squad, the kind of bad apple which is the but of terrace frustration. I know the likes of Barker has had a moan or three, but not in the same vain as past players like Cantillon and Moxon.

And more recently, Dean Lawford.

Very good point there TF, Theres not a single player who's been used as a scapegoat, but at the same time, the terraces are more positive as we're winning more than we're losing, if that changed so would the attitude towards players and one may be singled out.

When we had holroyd we didn't have beswick. You can't put beswick at loose becuase then you'd have to drop shad. You can't drop shad so would you then put shad top fullback. Oh no, then you'd have to drop miles. However you can't drop miles. So put him at centre oh no, we have better centres. Could play him second row, oh no wait he isn't big enough.

Which gets back to the original point, WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO PLAY THE STAND OFF OR WHO ARE YOU GOING TO DROP IN ORDER TO PLAY HIM? You can wish to add someone all you like but you have to make room for them.

As i also stated earlier, if shad is returning home then you can fit him in. Stop trying to be a smart ar$e and read all the posts next time.

I agree that Harris would be a good player and steadying hand but i'm just not sure we can afford another big name player. We must run close to the salary cap limit if we re sign a lot of the team. It would be nice if we could get an experienced player to fill that role though. Take pressure off black and beswick in the last tackle scenario. We certainly don't pressure teams on the last tackle with kicks like we did last year. I'm sure that will be looked at though, kicking is our biggest weakness this year. Something we can improve on for next season.

Its perfectly simple, stand off plays at stand off, shad at centre, he is a far better centre than Haley, Haley is a better winger than Worrincy who misses out job done. Remember Goddard hasn't signed for next year yet

Going back to your original post its good to hear, I do hope we keep all the lads and just tweek the pack without naming names we all know who we need to let go this time, sorry lads.

for the first time in a while watching fax i dont think i have seen a team where there is no reason to get rid of anybody and am really impressed with the squad we have this season

Thank you. Im not the only one who thinks the obvious then. Only difference for me would be Haley missing out. Said all year that next season we will need a Centre, Stand off and a couple of Props.

Exactly, for how many years have we had to deal with players whose heart wasn't in it or just using us as a springboard. This is a welcome change!
