I often go to games thinking I wonder what will happen today and as a Fax fan for some time it includes anything and everything.

Yesterdays game did set a new precedent though when we are involved.

From 24 up and looking like a team on fire to hanging on for a bonus point, just about sums up a Fax season of inconsistency in one game.

You get your hopes up and think a corner is being turned only to find yourself coming off the road round the next bend with a flat and no jack or spare wheel.

Agree with a lot of what has been said by others but I did think our bench and options for the interchange went against us.

Tonks and Davies were our only props where Leigh had more size on the bench and Tonka being drawn in spent most of his first spell sitting back down for 10 reducing his impact.

Casey was not big enough yesterday and although Holden did nothing wrong Beswick had much more of an impact over the length of the game for the changes in the 9 slot.

Ref, allowed some rugby league and some thugby league and in among all the tit for tat gave a couple of bad calls that stood out from the rest so obvious going against us which influenced the result.

New half back pairing with Mennell and Murrell went pretty well for the first time but not sure it was the best game to try it out in, undecided about Johnston for that game even if he had been fit, his attacking threat would have caused them problems but not sure if his defence against a team of that size.

We still aren't just up there with the top two or three teams.

Anyway the sun has risen again this morning and it's a beautiful day so the end of the world hasn't arrived just yet.

Despite yesterday's fantastic result, (for Leigh) I still wouldn't bet against you when you come to ours. That's what is so great about this Game.

Not sure where to start with that game as it was like a nightmare.

I said in the week building up to the game that we would be tired due to the game against Widnes and by the end of the game we were out on our feet. What I didnt anticipate was Leighs dirty tactics and it wouldnt surprise me if it wernt part of their gameplan to try and get players binned to try and run us off our feet.

To be honest I thought Leigh`s tactics were a disgrace in that first half and the ref lost control. To be fair to Leigh we saw how good they were in the second half when they concentrated on playing rugby rather than the dirty stuff.

More on the ref before I start on our team but I would love to see where Barlow was stood when he scored their first try because my initial thought was that he were a long way in front of the kicker. When a team is on a roll decisions seem to go your way and the knock on try was dubious to say the least and the try from the forward pass was just downright terrible by the linesman but another game changer that has not been mentioned is the Heaton `knock on` which went over his shoulder and he had to run about 3 yards back to pick up and also the Fieldhouse offside from Pott`s kick which looked to go backwards meaning he couldnt be offside.

Now on to us, and its frustrating to hear people saying about Brown shouldnt have gone to Batley but lets face it he has been average in all the games he has played for us and we looked better with Mennel playing at 7. Harrison`s decision to only make 1 sub in the first half looked inspired early on but by the time the game finished and our players looked dead on their feet you have to question why we still had substitutions remaining and in a game where tiredness was going to play effect why this was so.

Another poor crowd for one of our biggest games of the season and you have to question where the club goes from here. Its a vicious circle and if we want top 2 then we need to bring in new players because our squad is not good enough but to do that we need money. Yesterdays result does not encourage people to watch the team meaning less money to bring in new players meaning we are at best 3rd or 4th in this league. I do not want to put more pressure on our coach but he bemoaned how good their key players were yesterday but he has made the decisions that have turned us from a flair team to a solid team, so many signings and decisions that have been poor imo and we are now paying the price. It will be too late before anything is done about it though.

Leigh deployed dirty tactics, getting into our faces (literally) and whining our players up. Don't like the off the ball whining up that Leigh used. Targeting Tonks trying to provoke a reaction. Obviously took exception to be outplayed in first half.

Played well in the first half but was knocked of our game by Rowley's underhand tactics in 2nd half.

But these are tactics which win games. These are tactics that are beyond our coach it would seem. It's no good saying "they came to slow us down" or "they disrupted the game by fighting". The only synopsis that matters is how the scoreboard reads after 80 minutes. You have to plan for coaches like Paul Rowley and Mark Aston. if you don't, they end up being better coaches than you.

Fair play to Leigh put in one of the performances of the season in 2nd half , we got what we deserved. Re Leigh fans there is a problem with some of them I am a South Stand season ticket holder but I sit in the East Stand for the Leigh game I can't be doing with the drunken abuse , vile language and drunken intimidation of the 'Leythers' they are a stain on the game and a disgrace to their club - I wish we would shove them in the North Stand.

.As for the game very good , I took Andy Gregory with me , he had a great time a couple of points in the 3 Pigeons , met the Fax and Leigh fans there , and them had a few words with the Diners in Hospitality , still a Legend .

His view on the game was Leigh couldn't score early on because we never had the ball

, and our defence was shocking , but he called Leigh the St Helens of the Championship after the second half performance , and has said he will accompany me to other Leigh games this season .

It was good to chat with Johnny Freeman before the game also , a very nice man .My commiserations to Halifaxjohn , Littlerich , Swifty , and Dutchy , also Mick aka Bentleyman , at least I hope you enjoyed the Pork Pies ?Though they did seem a bit soggy .Anyway it will soon be 8th June its my Wedding Anniversary that day .Littlerich said the reason Leigh were top of the League is because of our easy to start to the Season , I agree we haven't played any top teams yet .

What someone needs to do right now is a re-hash of that Adolf Hitler Downfall parody on the events of yesterday's match. That would be too funny to watch.

As a Leigh fan, and having the benefit of just watching the game back in full on LCTV here are my unbiased and honest views if the game. Leigh's 1st try Barlow is in front of the kicker ( only just ) but is offside and try would have been ruled out by a video ref. The 1st sin bins of Barlow & Braeck nothing wrong with the tackle by Barlow which Braeck took exception too resulting in the scuffle. 2nd sin bins of Tonks & Acton ( who was nowhere near it was Emmitt involved ) was caused by Tonks who threw 1st punch and he continued to lose the plot all the time he was on the field. The pass by Higson which was hacked on by Brierley to score was a MILE forward and should not have stood. Nothing wrong with sarsfield's try, as Ridyard tried to off load he is clattered ball and all bt fax defender who propells ball forward, fax then knock on again before McNally off loads to sarsfield for try. Don't get to see the Barlow sending off incident so can't comment if he hits Potts whilst being subbed or not. I wouldn't say Leigh played dirty at all just hard rugby league with indiscretions by both sets if players IMHO. What does stand out also and Certinaley played a part in raising the temperature out there was Fieldhouse very unsporting behaviour of goading McNally whilst in the action of scoring his 1st try but also Gregg could have got himself in trouble by responding with an attempted kick/trip on Ryan. What does stand out is halifax's total change of gameplan in 2nd half of one out rugby from the outstanding attacking display of the 1st half. A game of 2 half which showed both teams soft under belly and some outstanding attacking play & bagfulls of character by the Leigh side. I am sure both sides will be there or there abouts come end of season. Also the comments about Leigh's fans is also out of order, yes we have the odd idiot who embarrasses themselves through ale ( if u can't handle it don't drink ) but there was the odd idiotic fax fans goading and dishing it out at 24-0 but like leigh the VAST majority of fax fans are a credit to their club and team. Don't judge us all with the same brush. Best of luck for rest of season & hope u get in top 2 with us if course

Much appreciated. Balanced comments always are. As a Fax fan I NEVER want to see hide nor hair of this match again but as a Leigh fan it must have felt pretty spectacular. I think Halifax are becoming to Leigh what Widnes were to them. Constantly having the upper hand. The NRC final was hard enough. This just takes the biscuit

I don't think anyone would fear taking the £600k on offer (or whatever it is), nor the chance to compete in that middle eight. What no-one who doesn't have a spare £20m would want, is being in Super League in its current guise. It's a basket case full of frogs. Mad frogs.

I think the club know that (with the steady growth of Fev's off-field commercial strength and Leigh's apparent "miracle" Lazarus act) they are on a hiding to nothing trying to compete next year. Bradford, Fev & Leigh. Then possibly London - depending on whether they are abandoned. We'll be behind the eight-ball from the off. Surely it was better when they closed the drawbridge? No-one expected anything.............

Rich , ive done my gloating now , but to be serious , Fax are NOT a bad side you played us off the park in the first half , but we didn't have any attacking play in your half , you cant score without the ball , it also takes 2 to cause a fight , im not pointing the finger , but no need for waving , and other gestures , the Fax guy in the Dug-out was a Disgrace goading Barlow , we all know Sam has a temper but he will be an asset to us this season .

The future for Fax is now unclear , you have a run of away games as we do , but have now lost 3 games this season , and to finish in the top 2 will be hard for you , I still want to see you finish 2nd though , have faith .

I still think we'll have an OK season. We won't be in the mix for the top cash but I still wouldn't bet against us getting to the GF. Like you say, the first half was a joy to watch for a Fax fan and with Robinson & Johnston to come back in I'm still going to see some good victories. Not sure what impact all this will have on a club that is already seeing its regular fan base shrink to 1,400.

My thoughts too. We were a top championship club in the days of licensing. Now, with parachute payments and a lesser salary cap, we don't even hold out much hope of keeping hold of our best players. Unless someone drops a wad of hard cash through the letter box and some serious marketing to improve crowds occurs, were in for some long hard seasons.

You're definitely right though, if I was owner I'd be dodging super league and all the cost that would entail - maybe the reason for buying the shay was to generate income for super league and why it's all gone quiet now...

I have to think that is a certainty. It's why I fear for Leigh and other clubs that don't own their own ground and that don't have a huge benefactor. It's one of the first wishes that Koukash had when he took over Salford and he's still aiming to own a stadium.

Just going off this post but why havnt Halifax got a tv station like this? I have to pay Leigh £3.50 to watch the video when I should be paying it to our club.

£32 quid for the year, could Halifax not get 100 to subscribe to something like this? Get someone to make the website for free advertising and it really wont cost the club much more than time.

I think there is very likely to be some suspensions coming our way from yesterday so the damage isn't only limited to that game.

If a couple from our pack have to sit a game or two out it may cost us.
Robbo is still a few weeks off and will need to get some fitness back again even when he is cleared to play and apart from young Sam Brookes we haven't got a lot of cover.

Agree with this absolutly and we havn`t even mentioned how much of a lift the "water carrier " and physio were to their team .He was constantly coming on doing nothing only coaching , physio too coming on to give some of the lads a breather .It`s all part of gamesmanship and we may not like it but you have to have a plan to overide it , the water carrier was shameless , he didn`t care when he was told re` his behaviour by people on the touchline.These are all things that go on in games unfortunatly
Our lads looked a bit shellshocked second half `cos they were stopped from playing ,there were at least 2 of Leighs tries should never have been given but at the end of the day you just have to get stuck in and deal with it .I was disapointed yesterday as I saw quite a few of past supporters who came along that I havn`t seen for a while I hope it hasn`t put them off.

I said at the time, two minutes to go before half time, on the last tackle go for the one pointer. 25v0 at half time and we would not have lost that game.

Been racking my brains and don't think I have ever come away from the Shay feeling so let down, disapointed and quite frankly ripped off, possibily the worst £15 I have spent in a long time.

Looking through this conversation we blame Sam Barlow starting bother, Tommy & his gang been idiots in the south stand and the referee's poor decisions, which are all quite frankly true, but they did not miss the tackles or give the game away - credit to leigh, fantastic effort.

I share a similar feeling to most fans that KH is a club legend and a great bloke, but not the right man no more, apart from some strange decisions he still not to blame for yesterday, some of the players are.

Several good performances from the normal blokes, Ambler, Fieldy, Brackek, Tyrer, divo & Manning but the rest were very poor and dont look anywhere near fit enough, really cant see what anyone see's in Callum Casey, why does he keep getting a game?

Debating spending my £15 money elsewhere from now on as apart from loyalty nothing brings me back week in, week out.

I thought Tommy Saxton put in a really good shift and was lucky to come away with both ears left on with some of the treatment he was getting.

Potts didn't get much of a chance to run but looked strong even against their forwards when he came inside to take the ball up, they struggled to get him down.

Agree with Casey, I want him to do well but just doesn't have enough impact for me.
Might have been better moving Heaton up into the forwards from the bench instead of Casey and giving Rettie a game in the backs.
Always wise after the event of course.
