Quote ="maurice"You will be closer to the facts than most, how much funding would a club get for 'development' and would Sheffield get the same as Leigh for example?, Is this funding provided by the RFL? Do they enter a single bid for the sport or can it be achieved at local bid level? Would a breakaway reduce the RFL's capacity to get grants?'"
My understanding is that you bid for areas. You cover the work to be done, there's a surplus which goes towards your overheads.
Quote The Central fund is 90k per club. Taking your biggest fixtures to a Thursday is not fan friendly and probably costs 30k pa, if we get 4 more fixtures as a result of the breakaway then the 90k can be covered. The potential losers are clubs with no ambition reliant on rfl handouts - go for it imho!!!!!'"
Agree in part but four more fixtures is four more sets of wages, two more ground rents, two more buses yet only two more gates. The extra fixtures may well be in the middle of winter which won't help the gates. Or in pairs over the bank holidays - which isn't great for the players. Be prepared for coaches' - quite justifiable - moaning about injuries.
If matches make money, why bother with lotteries, sportsmen's dinners and RFL handouts ? Just play more games ...
