| Quote ="Rach"Unlike the trend that seems to be for Clubs to tender out matchday catering to outside concerns.. The Cougars have gone the other way and booted out the overpriced Burger van and brought all the matchday food back under the control of the club, with great success.
A week a Sunday you'll find reasonably priced burgers ,hot dogs , chips n bacon butties ,as well as tea n coffee (£1) on sale at the back of the main stand at' Freddies Grill' plus an outlet selling local butchers pies n home made soup ( produced inhouse by our Aussie Prop Brendon Rawlins)
by the Hall of Fame Bar.
Plus our beers only £2.55 for lager and £2.35 for Worthies...
See you all there
'"
Hardly comparing apples with apples there. The Cougars haven't got a new £5 Million stand that someone has to finance have they!
Get real people. As I understand it, the deal with the catering company, the Council and the clubs is quite unique - not a simple franchise operation, but a case where the Council purchases the service from the catering company at a set price which THE COUNCIL then 'sells' to the clubs in order to make a return on the investment.
As that success grows (through functions, seminars, dinners, private hire as well as matchdays,) there is an agreement in place for some of the money to come back to the stadium/clubs, which wouldn't ever happen in a straight franchise.
And if your retort is "well why don't the clubs publicize this?" it\'s a commercial arrangement between the council and the caterers therefore not the Club's job to divulge sensitive confidential details and pander to the lynch mob.
I'm pretty confident beer and burgers [iare[/i cheaper at Keighley and St Helens and Batley and Workington and Whitehaven and Barrow and Oldham, but dearer at Leeds, Huddersfield, Warrington, Hull, Leigh and loads more... oh wait! They're all clubs with modern facilities and new stadia aren't they?!!!??!?!
Which do you want?

Thats different to how I am led to believe it works.
EMC pay the Council an annual licence for the right to do the catering and run the bars at the stadium. The clubs purchase matchday hospitality direct from EMC which they sell on to their sponsors. For example, the clubs may pay EMC £12.50 per person who is having a meal and the club then charges the person having the meal £30 which is where the clubs make their money on diners.

| Officeboy and Bubba, whichever is correct so long as the clubs are getting a share of the proceeds it puts a whole different slant on things.
Officeboy, no-one is asking for a detailed copy of the catering contract to be published (though why it should be secret beats me ) just let the fans of the clubs know that they actually gain from the agreement which is not the general understanding.

| Bubs, the technicalities of it may be slightly different to my redcollection - I've usually had a few when told anything important but the principle that it's not a straight franchise and that the clubs will benefit from the success of the operation is enough to assure me that the thing was entered into with the best possible deal for the clubs and therefore the speccies in mind.
The bleat bleat bleat of those who think we're still at Thrum Hall and nothing's moved on since 1985 gets on my ends.
And Fax Machine, I only read, see and listen to the same things available to everyone else. I'm just prepared to see things from the perspective of others now and again, and with an open mind, which is something that a lot of people on here should do a bit more.

Doesn't that also include match ticket and parking? If so, they are making a loss.

Doesn't include ticket and parking doesn't 'cost' as such. Apart from lost opportunity to charge.

To be honest I dont know what it costs at either club to have a pre-match meal or what EMC charge. It was purely a guess for examples sake.
And officeboy, its not like you to have had a drink of alcohol nature

I know, OB. But, I was stating what I believed I had seen advertised, (not the cost of a diners package), as part of the package and took Bubba at his thoughts on the cost. Daft, I agree.

Ironically, with many of the above operations being run by EMC. Coincidence?
Setting off for the Shay now, mine's a (£3) pint.

Maybe they should have been offered the Shay contract instead of EMC. At least they're local.

As I said earlier in the thread, the contract was put out to open tender. In other words, anyone could have put in a bid. From memory only two did.

Any idea through what media? National/local press, catering trade papers or what?
It just grates a little that, in difficult economic times, Calderdale MBC may not have tried hard enough to keep the business within the area. Provided they have then fair enough.

| whilst i understand the senarios explained from OB and Bubba, pure and simple the priceing structure on some of the food and drink is wayout of proportion, £1.80 for a cupof tea is scandlous, no one can defend this price with all the ins and out of contracts in the world, bottom line is to many people have to make a profit and therefore the customer is bearing the brunt!
Well not me me!
I usually have a cup of tea at the start of the game and at H/T, i now bring a bottle of pop with me! were is the ecommics for the council, EMC and the club in that! they dont make a penny out of me! its not that i am a tight yorkshire man! i just dont want to feel thati am being riped off, and at £1.80 i am, ihave voted buy not piurchacing at outragous prices, and would hazzard a guess that many others have too

As it was a council contract which was going out for tender, CMBC had to follow certain guidelines which dictates where invitations to tender and the like have to be advertised.
I do agree with your final comment though.
