Credit to Swinton, thought they did all the basics right and kept us under control in the first half despite our lack of ideas. Second half was great, back to how we used to be scoring for fun, but in the first half if Branighan and Beswick weren't there we'd have been scuppered. But if we carry on like we did in that second half we should be ok... SHOULD.

A mate who went said it was an awful game to watch especially first half. He felt Swinton gave everything in the first 40 but then were tired and lost confidence in the 2nd half. He though if Fax were playing one of the big sides we would have benn 20 points down at half time. Still not too convinced we have made the changes to challenge for honours this year. And I am still of the opinion Calland has taken the club as far as he can. We will see later in the year if he has changed things when we face Barrow, Fev, Widnes etc

We played smart rugby last night. Played up the hell of a slope inthe 1st half & did well to keep them down to 4pts. Cant remember them really having much chance of scoring.

2nd half we were back to something like we have been in the past. People pushing up, supporting, taking the chance when it was on. A big step in the right direction imo.

The first half was tough - but they didnt really look like scoring. He must have been watching a different game to me in the 2nd half. Some of the tries we scored were fantastic. As people have said, we had players pushing up with the ball carrier which we have been missing this year. More importantly, we did this off the platform set by the forwards. So we didnt start pushing passes in the wrong areas. Very proffesional job done against a team who have some very good players.

Well, Jesus wept.

It was not a great perforance at Widnes even though we won-just. We beat a struggling Championship 1 team, but struggled in the first half last night. I just think the easy games we have at mo are covering over the fact that Calland cant take Fax further and win cups and a Grand Final. Thats my opinion. If you or anybody does not like that then do not read it-simples. Some people think Calland will improve the team and its tactics. I respect that.

Just out of interest - other than the Widnes, Batley and Keighley game, how many games have you seen this year?

I was stood next to some Swinton fans last night. I thought to myself - thank God i'm not a Swinton fan.

Just them 3 on TV and was not impressed at all. We had no structure in place. We had problems in defence, keeping concentrated for 80 minutes and discipline. We just seemed to be playing in 2nd gear in all 3 games. The 3 problems I mentioned were there last year as well. Having read match reports and talking to friends on other games this year that I have not seen, a similar pattern is in these gaes as the 3 I have seen.

So you have not parted with any money so far this season to watch HRLFC!

He is a Fax fan - living in Germany. I've no doubt about his credentials. However, i do have a problem with his expectations and lack of patience. We don't have a Steve O'Connor to change things at a whim and in an instance. What we do have is a team of hard working board members who do their best to put a good team out on the park. I certainly have little to complain about since 2006. The second half rugby yesterday was champagne stuff. It was quick, methodical and error-free. We put 44 unanswered points on in that half. What else do you want ?????

Just donate around 80 Pounds money to sponsor players which can be confirmed and spent over 100 Pounds on merchandise. I also spend over 2000 Pounds a year of my own money on other Rugby League stuff. But no I am not a Fax fan and no know nothing about the game or Halifax.

Impatient problem with expectations? Yes and I want to see my team win and play well. I want my team to atleast do the basics right and reach their potential. What I see and read thats not happening.I Expect a team that has problems both in defence and changing tactics to sort it-for me what I see and hear it has not happened. We have great individual players. We have others who run there blood to water. However we need somebody to mould them into a ruthless machine-like what Millward and Powell have done.I do not feel we have the tactical knowledge to win a trophy-though we have some of the best individual players outside SL! I just feel that we are not playing as good as we should. The board of directors and others like Mal Powell, Martin Hall for example do a fantastic job. Without them there is no club. They have done a great job under the circumstances. The only area I have major concerns over is the head coaching role.

I agree. we kept it tight in the first half when they still had some fight in them. We didn't force passes or throw it around in the wrong arears. Then in the 2nd half we started to turn it on when we were on top. Like you said, what more do people want?

A resounding loss, perhaps?

I want a Coach who can read the game and get his team to follow through his plans. A coach who is a general and can control a game both in attack and defence. A Coach that has a number of options and tactics to beat or atleast trouble opposing teams. I want a coach that can mould a team full of class individuals like Black, Maloney, Royston, Bowman etc in to a slick moving machine that can win trophys. I do not want to hear a coach saying players are in the last chance saloon. I want to hear that he either knows what the problem is or atleast willing to admit he accepts responsibilty for the performance of his players. I do not want a coach who is socializing and getting drunk with his players as has happened.

The ball is in Calland court. If he can win a trophy this year and change a number of concerns that I have mentioned above, I will apoligize and admit I was wrong. What I have mentioned above I would say to Calland personally if the chance was available. Its up to Matt Calland to make me and others look small and prove us wrong over our thoughts.

I think a few things are changing, MC was actually out with the squad during the warm up, which he has not normally done and can now be seen more regularly down on the touchline, actually talking with the players during the game and he seems much more interactive with them, let's see how things go.
Yes, the Hunslet result was a disgrace, but the other 2 losses were against the teams currently lying 1st & 2nd in the league, so on reflection it might not be as bad as first seemed.
Maybe our expectations pre season were set too high, yes we had an excellent year last year but not many teams go undefeated all year, so why should Fax be any different.
Fax are a confidence team, and Fridays performance was a step in the right direction. Let's build on that and get behind the whole team and staff and see what comes of it.
