| At the game, that second half was an awful game.
Laughton's one man show reigned supreme again.
I dont know why you guys are bagging fax? We had to do a lot of defending in the second half down the 12 point slope. Penalties get given when you are doing that much defending. Laughton must be a good ref, he got ref of the year. He just clashes with our players. No, I doubt we help ourselves. But the inconsistencies out there were just ludicrous at times.

Well said.....
Can anyone ever ever remember Laughton even having a half decent game......

| Quote ="The Lucky Black Cat"Laughton gets worse and is a joke. Instead of letting the game flow he blows his whistle for every little mistake and just turns the game in to a scrappy affair. Neither side were dirty and neither side deserved to have the penalty count so high against them. I hope he chokes one day on his whistle as I have never seen any game on TV or Live that I have enjoyed with him as Ref!
Fax- Disgraceful to be honest. We arrogantly thought we had won and just gave up.We had players not putting in tackles like Beswick. We had players giving away silly penalties- Rob was one with not playing the ball, Wrench giving a facial right in front of the ref and Penky getting involved when no need. Maloney apart I was disappointed with the forwards. We should have hammered the forwards in that second half but they got on a roll and got a couple of tries as a result. Should Black have played? as he did not look 100%. I had hoped Bowman would have played today and for me should have done whether from the Bench or from the off.
If we go out next week with the performance and attitude we played with tonight we will get beaten by a few. Batley were missing a number of players as well. Lets do the basics in attack. Lets sort the discipline out and work hard in defence, especially close to the line.'"
Were they? I think not.
Pretty poor from both teams in patches but decent in other patches. The Ref was poor for both sides but wasn't helped by the 2 dummies running the line either..

agree.
but for a ref to give a try then go to video on say so of defending player did look bit bad, nearly as bad as the touch judges did with the goal.

Bad? I'd say so. I didn't know he could do that. I must admit Rocket Ronnie had a terrible match. Batley know how to play that horrendous slope and they were really slowing the play the ball down in the first half. Ronnie kept penalising them at first, but didn't warn them, and even gave up penalising them in the end even when they continued to do it. He lost control towards the end, it was obvious, he was so inconsistently bad he was getting the bad bird from both sets of fans and was losing his bottle.
Anyway, to go to Batley and grind out a win is a great result, no matter what the performance. It's gonna be a graveyard for many this season, glad that one's out of the way.

Disgraceful was maybe the wrong word but poor is not. We lost control of the game and some of the mistakes was schoolboy errors. The Ref did not help but pushing players over twice, incorrect play the balls and poor tackling are our errors and ones that we are famous for. We was lucky Batley played even worse than we did and next week we cant afford to drift in and out of games or let poor discipline creep in to our game.

I think you're getting a little over excited, pussy cat, there's no way that match was as poor as you're making out. There some bluddy hard hitting stuff went on tonight, I think you should calm down and have a mug of horlicks.

| Come on it is Laughton, no one can honestly say they're suprised with his display tonight. He makes the games his own, and when they're on sky, well it's his time to shine isn't it.
The day we get a decent display off Laughton; well I'll have to come back to you on that...

| Question for those who watched this on Sky:-
Were we offside so much in that second half especially on our own line (3 or 4 times)?
Did the player who hit the ground before their 3rd and possibly 4th try not have both elbows down?
Did Batley never impede in the last 20 minutes as we did not get one penalty in that period?
Was it our discipline or that toilet called Laughton that deprived us of the ball the last 30 minutes???
Did Wrenchy really hit that guy high when the linesman came on?

Having just watched replay:
1. Well this is it, doesnt every team have at least 1 or 2 off the line every time? Certainly weren't obviously offside. And to do us so much was harsh to say the least
2. 3rd try was ok 4th was a load of toss. The commentators didn't make much of a big deal about it saying the man 'wasn't controlled' but at the end of the day a Batley player hit the deck with a Halifax player on him, if that was slowed down in Super League it wouldn't have been given.
3. Last 24 mins actually and no penatlys to us. Batley were whiter than white and never moved of the mark, had a player offside, held on to long or anything EVER....i'll let you decide if im being sarky
4. Six of one half a dozen of the other, again, technically we should have been penalised for this and that. However where were our relieving penaltiess in the last 25mins. Halifax did very well in theory at stages in defence.
5. He put his hand in Batley players face. He did do it, but again, Batley never did it? I think not. And btw, his tackle that actually finally got us a sin-binned player was the softest of the lot. He was unlucky it was him
Worrincy was a bit of a tart for playing on, not sure why he thought he wasn't held. Also when their player had nasty fall he did nothing...which perhaps lead to the incident because he didn't even jump oddly enough..also regarding that incident, that Batley player fell VERY awkwardly and it look very bad and something could easily gone wrong with his neck so can whichever tosspot Halifax fans who keeping chanting 10,9,8.. you're out etc, bloody stop it!
Penky being ran out of play was also good defence to be fair.
Overall thought we did ok basically against a good Batley team at their place. 1 out of 6 points from these 2 games last year remember...

Laughton - you're a [i=#0000FFmale chicken[/i.
Granted - Fax have gone off the boil but they're playing against the ref here.
[i=#0000FFI understand where you're coming from, but keep it clean, please. TS[/i'"
Your post as to be a joke?
I was watching this match on sky with the young un. Could not give a toss who won, having no allegiance. Just wanted to watch some rugby and tries.
But my word, forget the penalty count, that was a one side refereeing performance, IN YOUR FAVOUR. Every 50/50 decision seemed to go to you. Worrincey not getting sent off for that tackle in the air was a joke. We should eliminate that sort of play from our game.

Ah you didn't watch the second half then?
Wouldn't mind knowing how many sets they had on our line? And a big hand to the defence throughout that period.

Give your head a shake. Sent off? For what? Pure accident, these things happen.
Not sure what some people are expecting, like people have said we have won 2 games already this season that we lost last season. Our attack looked to be clicking in to gear in the first half and our defence held pretty strong at times in the second half when Batley were on a roll. Laughton had his usual incompetent performance for both teams but that is to be expected. He shows week after week why the RFL havnt shown any confidence in him and why he will never make it to SL. I thought Maloney, Branighan, Black and Penky all had really good games. Overall very good result and if we can manage to pick up at least a bonus point next Thursday we are laughing.

| some good comments made on here.
Does anybody know what the exact penalty count was last night? Maybe somebody could tell me different, but I reckon overall Halifax had the Lions share.
In my opinion we lost the game last night due to the two basic errors when twice we failed to find touch in the first half from penalties, and Halifax subsequently scored on both occasions from the "Gifted"next set.
Referee was very poor for both sides, and did nothing to promote the game of Rugby League last night.

Try again!
18-9 in favour of yourselves!
We took a second half pounding from Rocket Ronnie...not saying we didn't deserve most of them!
I was listening to some guys in the post match presentation bar, blaming Ronnie for your loss.

| a few rants from last nights game!
1) the ref - was bad for both sides, allthough i have said many times he canonly give a penalty when "he" sees an infrigment of the laws of the game, if your side be it, Fax, Batley or whoever breach the laws then a penaalty it will be, the issue of Mr Laughton is what he does not see! and his consistancy, he gave thing one way then not the other, penalised one team for an offence then not the other, conistancy last night was poor!
2) That bloody slope, its about time somebody leant Batley a JCB, take the soil from the top and move it to the bottom, thus leveling the pitch, in my opinion the slope runins a good game, yes we all know batley win the toss playup hill first half, them try and steam rollar the second, as always we know many a team will be had by the pitch and these tatics this year, come on batley and the RFL its 2010, sort that pitch out NOW (o and FEV too its a joke!)
3) Good away support last night from Fax 1800 at batley on a cold thursday
4) Urban Carrot sat in the Batley Dugout! i am guessing on placment from Hudds uni! how strange must that have been!

| Our discipline was poor last night, I don't think anyone can disagree with that. However Rob Worrincy's incident was in no way shape of form a sending off offence. He was running at full pelt, and didn't even attempt to make the tackle, from what I saw he tried to duck and just caught the full back! And you talk about 50/50 calls, well what about the "tackle" that was put in on Worrincy? Maybe it was a complete tackle who knows. But you can't call us up for that and let Batley off when they did it on [utwo[/u occassions, and a try came from one of them.
Anyway on the brighter side Aizue, Black and Maloney had top games last night. Black looked more involved as did Aizue (when he was on) and Maloney crashed over for those two try's. Good to see Penky looking more relaxed last night, I know one or two of his decisions didn't come off, but he looks much better.
Any idea why White wasn't called up? Thought he had a good game against Ovenden.

27 penalties! A penalty less than every 3 minutes

| Cummings was at fault imo also for Campbell's 1st try. He lost posession over the line & only regathered it because it bounced off Goddards head. He only got it again as he "wedged" it with his forearm, in no way would this usually be possible with a falling ball!
As soon as it did, then that should have been called a knock on.
You can hear Laughton during the game telling our team he will hammer us for offsides as we were being lazy! Batley were hardly offside were they???????????/ RUBBISH!
