| Yes I would think it was although it did not say so on the sponsor form they organised it and brought along a big pair of goals that flashed up the scores.
But the point is somebody has these ideas and does them they don`t bother that they may be treading on someones toes like the Giants tickets they knew we had a game that day but were they bothered ? No.

Always said this , let the blokes go to the pub and watch the footy
The target should be to get Mum to bring the kids as they are the future , Mum also buys the xmas and birthday prezzies
So instead of mum bringing little Johnny on his free ticket you want little Johnny paying to bring Mum on her free ticket

Executing the idea/plan is the problem , especially when you either dont have enough people to actually ' run ' something
Better to have a two day ' blitz ' marketing the next game during the week of that game by a group of people rather than having one person trying on their own every day of the week

I feel the RFL should do more to help market the game at all levels. The game is never properly promoted. I know people have rung up the RFL about info on France v England and struggled to get a clear answer on when and where its happening! The game is crying out for somebody to grab hold of it and properly market the game not just at the top level but all the way through down to the amateur level.Has there ever been ANY Adverts about playing or watching RL on TV or at the Cinema? How do you expect people to know where to watch or become involved with it if they do not get a local paper or a RL paper? The people running our game are sadly clueless and are happy just going as we are.

I think this is an excelant idea you see youngsters around town doing surveys all the time in fact you could ask the senior schools ,their top years get into marketing and such maybe could get ideas from them.
You are also spot on about the women,I do think women have a contributory factor in this I witnessed this when I had a pub.
The women were all right while they knew matches were Sun afternoon every week but one time when we moved down to the Shay they kept swopping the times and days about. The women got fed up as men are not very good at forewarning so the women said they could not go as they had arranged something else.
Like you say you have to get them to come along too but make sure the toilets arn`t swimming and the seats in the stand are cleaned of bird muck cos one thing ,women don`t like is unsanitory conditions.

Thing with ladies attending live sport is they dont like to go alone , even if they are taking the kids , so when you target the schools you need to get the mums as they are picking up the kids from school and invite them ' en bloc ' , that way you will have better results

I ain't condoning the giants actions. But as far as i'm concerned htafc can go wherever they like to raise money for Y.A.A. Htafc have a unique partnership and along with barcelona are only one of two teams to have a charity on their shirt. They should be applauded

That is fair enough but the same lad who organised the penalty shoot out was the one who brought in the Giants tickets so they must at least work together on marketing.

The 13 match winning run certainly should have helped in this regard but it needs to be backed up with plenty of quality advertising.'"
Yer good point, we have never had decent avertising hoardings either at Thrum Hall or at the Shay.
I know its now a Council run stadium and for both clubs but we could do with a much bigger advert on Skircoat Road, it can be done and would not cost the earth, 50/50 with AFC Halifax Town or maybe the fans would pay for it?
Thing is I have a lot of repect for people at the club but the same people are being asked to help and thats us the already converted. The club need to hit new fans both for coming to games but also the lottery, people may show an interest if only they were asked.
Get where people are like in the pubs in town on a Saturday afternoon, or in the shopping areas like Woolshops or Southgate precinct with flyers.

| Attendances for the last three seasons vs Leigh:
2,854 July 2008
1,816 August 2007
2,160 April 2006
Surely we've got to bust the three thousand barrier on Sunday - seeing as though the standard set by this current sqaud is much higher. If not then maybe Starbug's point that the ending of P&R is more damaging than people think holds some truth.

Dunno about busting 3K as its all pay and all clubs struggle to get big gates for the NRC and CC matches becuase of this.
I would hope we get 2500 on Sunday as I doubt Leigh will bring that many, maybe 300?
I think the North stand should be open then we can a have a 'wall of sound' from Fax fans only from the South stand. I think it was quiet last year when there were 200 or more Whitehaven fans at the play off match in the South stand.

free kids tickets is a difficult one. . . over the last four seasons we've given away thousands and thousands . . have they helped the crowd increase?. . i'm sure so . . but not in correlation to the numbers we've printed and passed out.
we all will know of kids who have started coming along, theres lots more of them now (the junior cheerleaders are an example)
'"
Utter bollox!
The cost of printing and distributing those leaflets was miniscule as they were done in house and the returns were a high percentage. I can remember collecting every single voucher that came back and the only time we didn't get a decent return was when it was left to somebody other than my self and Guy Williams to deliver them to a School or Company.
I can remember one occasion when I went into the office and asked if somebody could drop some vouchers off at a school near where they lived and they said "I'm not getting involved"! Some bright spark had convinced people in the office that free vouchers for kids didn't work
There's a difference between being helpful and being useful and unfortunately the club have some very helpful but useless people. When those useless people are no longer helpful what's the point in them being there?

| If the club had treat a few people a bit better over the years im sure they would have a lot more money in the coffers.
You have to ask yourself why dont any of the people who sponsored us in some of the worst times eg. relegation from SL and the first season in NL1, sponsor anymore? Where have they all gone? Afterall we are playing some of the best Rugby we have played in years, i bet im not far wrong that if you asked any of them why they are no longer involved it will be because of how they have been treated by the club. As good as things are on the field it still seems that off the field is as amateurish as ever.
I mean every succesful business person that has become involved with the club has slowly had their noses pushed out because the `clique`, who have no experience of running a succesful business, dont want to change things for the better. Are they afraid of change or afraid of getting tripped up?

| Mike, I've said it numerous times before, how many thousands of cars drive past The Shay on Huddersfield road every day? Put up a proper sign with places to slot in teams/dates like they have at odsal and hey presto, free advertising to thousands every day and much more professional than an A4 sheet of paper.

I'm sure that if some of the past investors were correctly invoiced for what they want or what they got, and actually received what they were being billed for, it would go a long way to retaining their support to be able to fund better players.

I don't think so! It's their premises, but they aren't going to ask the clubs if they want a sign/billboard!
It would be a case of the clubs asking for Planning Permission while advising their landlord of what they intend to do and seek their permission. The Stadium management may then be happy to put in an application them selves to avoid the squabbling of the two clubs arguing over who is going to pay for it and how much usage they each get or the %age of space on the board etc etc, but it's certainly not up to the Council to do something about advertising for their tenants. How many people rent a shop from the Council and don't get any adverts paid for them?

| Quote ="Brew"I think some of the things Keighley have been doing this season are quite good, and a bit unusual too.
Using the Mascot, Freddie the Cougar as a main part of the marketing, tied in with a Healthy Eating theme, they started out by having Freddie going for a run around Keighley each morning in the few weeks before the season, usually with Barry Eaton, quite an obvious presence for the club when a bloke in a big furry suit is out and about. Amongst other things they've done they have Freddie out around the town on Saturdays handing out kids tickets ect.
Perhaps having Halicat up in the town on Saturdays could be useful, certainly get the kids interested. Handing out flyers and stuff, Its a low investment thing (already got the Halicat suit only needs some flyers printing) and may get either some new fans involved, but at least make people aware that there is a game coming up.Also, inregards to someone saying they don't know when the matches are, how about putting an A4 stand in the window display at Harveys with a sheet in saying when the next game is. plenty of people must glance in as they walk past?'"
I've spoken to Harveys today and they will display all future games.
Thanks Brew
