That was in the press last week.
The player involved has strenuously denied the use of drugs.
The police were called due to a misunderstanding and the player offered a sample whilst the police were in attendance.
Whether one was given is not disclosed.
I for one will give the player the benefit of doubt until something is proven.
Hopefully others will too.

I find it unusual that they keep the samples they have tested that have proved negative. I would have thought that once a negative result has been found that both sample A and sample B would be destroyed. Unless there is a reason that has not been given to keep these samples I cannot see why they are kept.
Is there anywhere where we can read up on the drug-testing procedure and rules?

| Quote ="Greg Florimos Boots"Call me a cynic but Leigh's performance on the whole seems to have gone a little bit south as the season got past the half way mark, their fitness is in question and there certainly seems to have been a drop off in the level 'violence' in their games. I cant be the only person who has noted that.'"
Perhaps the 'drop off' in violence was as a result of not playing 'Fax or 'Fev in their final games?
I would repeat what I've posted elsewhere, that the level of aggression employed by Leigh these past two seasons, has been no greater than we encountered during the previous four seasons' of Fev dominance. We got some right royal pastings, both physically and scorewise during our regular 3-4 games per season against them!
Our games against 'Fax have been more puzzling. We used to have some cracking, high scoring games with you. I can only assume that there have been so many players swapping sides that familiarity truly has bred contempt.
We now have, rightly or wrongly, a reputation amongst the 'knowing' media pundits, (even in the HKR and Salford games) of being indisciplined. Yet the penalty counts in both those games, have been in our favour, with the SL teams getting more players 'referred'. (e.g 4 Salford players and 1 Leigh)

| Alan - explain the "evil" reference then.
Someone close to me told me this and said that something scientifically and medically was simply not right and as a person of medicine, I value his opinion over your conjecture.

Can't comment on it, as it was his opinion and I didn't see the players close up as he did. Immediately after the final hooter, in games, they have seemed perfectly affable and charming - even with the opposition. Perhaps it's a substance that just lasts for 80 minutes? Or they are hypnotised and the final hooter snaps them out of their trance?
Mind you, we Leigh fans have often thought, during some of the team's sleepier performances this season, that they may have been on tranquilisers!

To draw a conclusion from that, you'd need to know what the penalties were for. Standing a couple of inches offside or smacking somebody, for instance.

I think his truculence and petulance top that.
The visage on the visiting tester is a picture. He seems to have seen it all before and he does stoicism and insouciance brilliantly in what may seem to be an attempt at intimidation from an individual bare-footed and bare-chested shouting a lot.
Strange the Halifax and Leigh links in the latest drugs controversy(ies).
The anti-doping people must be well sickened by rugby league personnel, following on from the attempted cover-up by individuals at Hull FC a few years back.

| From watching that video it looks on face value to contradict the Leigh statement that Sam called the police, looks to me like the UKAD guy was waiting for them to arrive, and also looks like Sam refused the test, hence why trying to be clever and asking the UKAD to do the test.
Looks to me like Sams own video has backfired and contradiced the statement to me, best mates with Penky could have been the reason for wanting to test.
The above is just my opinion based on what I see and isn't fact just speculation.
If they know they can be tested any time and have nothing to hide I do t see the problem at all.
They know the score as professional full time athletes, although I would have to stress that Leigh probably need a better conditioner based on that vid.

| In terms of Penky, is this the same sort of stuff that Kolo Toure was banned for?
Seem to remember him using his wife's cellulite cream or something, presume it's supposed to break down fat.

Hi Griff,
Our conceded penalties at Salford (just like theirs) were for the usual variety of 'offences' (Holding down, offside, not square, high tackle, and a bizarre obstruction when we played the ball with no dummy half)
Salford's referrals (like our individual one) were for dangerous tackles. Only one was proven - against Maitua.
Obviously, there is more to indiscipline than mere statistics - I merely used these, as have the 'experts' when condemning our 'indiscipline'.

| Don't know the guy and only spoke to him once in the Toulouse departures lounge, he was hammered, I was slightly intoxicated however I was never a fan.
He seemed to turn it on when he could be d and for every great bit of skill he'd come up with an error, a penalty or some sort of petulance. IMO he always seemed to have a chip on his shoulder and be a bit of a mood Hoover on the pitch.
I don't doubt for a second his natural ability but he wouldn't fit in to this Halifax TEAM. I haven't read the ins and outs of the legal side (not that interested) however I'm not surprised he's facing a second ban.

| Sentiments echoed. He won plenty of games for us but the sight of a club captain in club gear having to be carried through passport control and some of his behaviour on the plane was not impressive. Cracking player, daft sod.
Looked at the Barlow video too, he's no Roger Cooke is he, although they both looked well fed. None of us know exactly what went on apart from the UKAD guy and Sam but it doesn't look like either of them handled it well.
Some of the stuff on the VT is ridiculous on Penky, he's been caught, he's got form and at best had a year or two left playing. If he hasn't planned for a life after Rugby then he can only blame himself. The sports integrity is more important.

| A quick Technical note:
Some peptide supplements are legal, and work similarly to protein supplements to help the body recover from strenuous activity.
However, there are also a variety of peptides that encourage the body to release growth hormones, GHRP-6 being one. These type of peptides stimulate muscular growth with fewer side effects than anabolic steroids.
They are sold either as a cream or in a solution for injection.
Peptides are also used in combination with anabolic steroids to maintain muscle gains.
From an anti-doping perspective, the ability to detect the use of growth hormone releasing peptides is complex, as the substances are rapidly metabolised, however new tests have been developed in the last year. But... These new-age drugs are very difficult to pick up through testing. So the use of coercive powers by investigators, such as calling on witnesses is usually the only way to prove illegal useGrowth hormone releasing peptides are prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
In 2005 the ban was for using Stanozolol an anabolic steroids commonly used as performance enhancing drugs and is banned from use in sports competition under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and WADA. This was the drug overused by the sprinter Ben Johnson.
