The club's going places - just look at the display against Cas a few weeks ago. We've got a great squad and a top class coaching team. Matt Calland's just committed to the club - which is fantastic news. The players are a great set of lads and I just wanted to give an example of what they do in the community.

Last Saturday I was asked by Illingworth RLFC if I could help out with their junior presentation night. They wanted a Halifax player to present the trophies and big Frank Watene gave up his Saturday evening at just a few hours notice and travelled over from his Castleford home to present the awards. The youngsters were thrilled to bits and all think Halifax are great. This is just an example of some of the positive things they do in the community.

Ben Black is kindly giving up his Saturday evening to present the trophies at Halifax Irish's presentation night tomorrow. He was only asked yesterday as well.

We've got two massive games coming up and if we win those then things really will be looking up.

There are faults in ANY system but its coming across that you and Mal have a big problem with each other. Sometimes its better to say things face to face or let things go rather than have a rant on a Public Forum where all can see.

I do not think many of us are interested in the problems you and Mal have with each other and I am sure that these could be discussed properly. I respect you and the work you have done with the club. I respect Mal and the work he does and know the club would be a lot poorer if you two have not got involved in the past. However to criticize the work of somebody here is in my opinion wrong. I also feel the way you criticized was not the right way neither. Thats not saying you are wrong with your opinions same as Mal and others are not wrong with their views. Its just the way its been done. I want to see this thread become more positive and looking at ways the club can move forward-not criticizing the work of people or the way they have done things. I am sure the club and many volunteers know they have made mistakes and lessons need to be learned. However we also need to look at areas that have not really been covered and how we can push the club forward. Any problems with the way things are/have been done should be reserved for Trust Meetings etc rather than on here.

You should have read the whole thread before making some of those comments. The slagging match was not started by me, I just joined in and rather childishly, retaliated!

I totally accept that people's loyalties on here would lay with the club, and don't hold that against anybody in any way, but to have all these comments directed at me makes me thinks some of you need to take your blinkers off!

Think most people would agree that we're really not that interested in you Yob. As we are all Halifax fans I think it's fair to say we're more interested in the club than your mundane rants

In some instances Volunteers work harder than paid staff. I don't particulary give a toss about my job, but as long as I get paid every month, I'm alright. If I had a job I liked I'd work harder but thats life aint it.

If I volunteered to do something, I'd actually be doing something I wanted to do, so chances are I'd put more effort into it as its a cause I wanted to suceed.

I don't know what you are all getting so worked up about, we all know the only team to have the neccesary structure in place to pass the SL requirements is Widnes.

For one, the RFL have apparantly taken a very dim view of Halifax ditching their academy.




Now if we can only sort out our on the pitch performances.

Says who? And if the RFL had a proper academy/reserves League which served some purpose then Fax probably would not of got rid of the reserves for 1 year! Teams failing to turn up and the costs of running a team in a joke competition amongst other things made Fax make that decision. Hopefully this new League will be better organized and run next year- though I doubt it to be honest!

Ihave just read back through this thread and as far as I can see you've got it wrong. It wasn't Yob that started this , he had things said about him first. On a public message board ( which should not have been publicly talked about)he is just sticking up for himself. As I have said before ,why not keep it on PM'd. To save everyone's embarrasment??

Yup thats why Cullen has come out and stated that Widnes supporters should stop thinking that the club has a SL set up when it doesnt.

He is right though , we are all lagging behind Widnes at the moment

Having said that they like us all still have to ' Qualify ' to submit an application , as I doubt Leigh making the GF we will ' Qualify ' this season by winning the NRC

Wheres the evidence of this other than the waffle from the club? They have come out to say that they arent full time now after SOC stated he would fund them full time until the next SL licences - other than the fan base (which has remained impressive but hasnt improved) what other evidence is there that they are that far ahead?

& they have parted company with the assitant coach, Stankevitch as he didnt want reduced hours.

That really is fantastic, that is some of the most powerful advertising you can get in a way. With such a cult hero as Watene, the kids do love him, they will want to see him play and will drag the parents along for the ride and hopefully after a great display and win against Leigh on Sunday, return.

While you are correct in what you say if you look at it you are still preaching to the ' converted ' if you have a player attending a presentation at a RL club

Yes continue doing it , get letters and make contacts with as many as you can in the area as you are competing with the Bulls,Leeds and Huddersfield for this type of ' marketing

But the point still remains is you need to somehow find a way to actively promote your club to the people who have never had / dont have any interest in RL whatsoever

The article by Matt Calland in the paper is good but he also is reffering to ' the fans rather than the people of the town /borough , he is asking for existing fans to contribute more via lottery instead of targeting new fans

Well I know of junior clubs in the Halifax district who have recently had Bradford and/or Leeds players at their presentation evening's, that's not right is it ?

A lot of these kids aren't yet converted as many turn up for training at local amateur clubs in Rhino's/Bulls/Saints/Giants shirts.

The more we can get the players into the junior set ups the better. The main problem we have is that with the players being mainly part time living out of the area, it turns out to be a very long day for them if they then have to get up for work the next morning.

I think the guys we have who are getting into the clubs are doing a great job. It's a million miles beyond recent years.

We decided to ditch our academy round about the same time as your club went bust. Which do you think will stick most in the minds of the RFL?



Our academy previously dominated their league - winning the GF two years on the trot. Plans are in place to bring this youth set up back in plenty of time. You have a bunch of prima dona's and a very poor coach. It's you who should be worried. Half way through and you've already lost six matches. That my son is appalling. Have you seen your run in? Very tough. You'll be lucky to get a place in the play offs. As for Super League - we may get the knock back and certainly if we haven't improved our attendances or our financial backing i wouldn't want to go up anyway. I won't be losing any sleep if the worst happens - our club will continue on but if you lot get another snub, you won't see SOC for dust.
