Well been a true traditionalist, I would have thought people would have wanted the teams who won the league to be promoted and in that case it would have been FEV and BARROW.

Well you kind of got that right rugbyball - but I can live with the play-off thing in deciding who has the right.
We got to the semi at your place the year before and canme within a whisker from 6th place! I'd have taken it then so I can't now chelp on about finishing top!!
The game is screwed, and I have no faith in those running the game whatsoever, or in the direction that they're taking the game.

Oh the irony, no to franchising, yes to "one off golden point drop goal athon". If you really think the game should be decided on the field in the fairest way then surely the teams that topped the league in the last two years would have been promoted under P&R. Guess all the modern SKY based stuff is ok when it suits.

We only have golden point so that sky do not have to schedule replays in or large periods of extra time.

And that is the problem, most fans would take promotion through what ever format was "in". Every man for themselves. If fax had got in today then they would have taken it simple as, had fev got in by finishing 6th and winning the play offs they would have taken it.

Im sure we all agree it makes are game very unattractive for people on the outside.

The point I am trying to make and one that would work with the league set up we have now is that promotion in should be decided by who wins the league or indeed even the top 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ..... teams, not some one off play off match affected by a massive break in play or some subjective licensing soap opera.

Its just not sport in my mind.

I thought Mr Lewis' suit was outstanding. The sheen and the sharpness of it as the light glistened onto the camera was a sight to behold. I thought he could have done something with his ears though. They were a distraction.

What was that tripe Lewis was saying about licensing, stability, youth development and Super League Stadia, then followed by Sky Sports talking about administrations and financial difficulties. If anyone is surprised, i dont believe them. The ONLY way those muppets can have any ounce of credibility is to kick Cas and Wakey out, let us in, and give the development franchises (expansion) a timeframe to sort themselves out. The games a joke and i feel embarrassed that clubs are made to make themselves ladys of the night to these pimps.

I agree a little with what you say but the Aussies merged and tinkered with their set up to make it a stronger proposition for all concerned including youth player development and fan atteraction by merging teams together. Their criteria for bringing a new franchise into their league is much more stringent too regarding turnover, salary cap etc. When they do something it's because it benefits the comp and isn't because Murdoch says do it.
Can we honestly say that expansion clubs such as Crusaders, Harlequins (20 odd years) and dare I say it Catalans bring something extra special to the game / SL that a rejuvinated Oldham, Featherstone, Barrow, Leigh or Halifax would bring to the game if they were allowed to prosper given the same resources and backing from the Rugby League?

If the Aussies do it it appears to be for the right reasons and is well thought out, we do it trying to replicate their blueprint for success and tends to end up looking like a watered down, half cocked version with little or no thought given to the execution or reasoning.

Ring fencing, subsidising, closing shop, whatever you call it, doesn't breed competition, it breeds complacency, ill give the game 5-10 years it sees more infrastructure changes to repair the mess and restore its dignity. Tell you what makes me sad along with this.. Looking on the HALIFAX website to see the lead story being "watch Widnes celebrate as they were given the nod". Why is that up on there? Have the RFL made us put it up or something? Talk about kicking you when your down!
